Good video - I have bought this pattern and will try it, probably with Harris Tweed and faux leather or cork. Suggestion for top stitching at the end on your Janome. Take the table off, put a book under the machine to raise one end up, then top stitch from the outside (sort of like a free arm). I do this with my Juki and it works quite well for me.

I just bought my first pattern from you (this pattern) & I have to give a huge acknowledgment of appreciation on how in the first couple pages, you have each part of the bag with lines drawn to them in what part is what. So an example is “main panel” with a line and arrow pointing to it & it’s like that for all parts of the bag. I appreciate it. I sometimes call the zipper panel the “zipper panels” while other times in patterns I see it labeled as “zipper placard”. Obviously they are both the same thing but sometimes our brains have moments & get stuck on one name. I appreciate the layout 😊

Very nice bag, love the green one! You mentioned Microtex and universal needles, are they also HLx5 type, like recommended in the users manual for this machine? For sticky vinyls I usually reduce the foot pressure to almost 1 when topstitching and it helps a lot, teflon foot included.
@CountryCowDesigns
@CountryCowDesigns Жыл бұрын
Thanks. At the moment I’m still using standard domestic needles as that’s what I currently have. Will be trying others soon though

I always look forward to your new designs and tutorials - always excellent. However, I couldn't catch the needle size when making strap. I understood Microtex but the needle size wasn't clear. Thanks for the clarification. (:

Fantastic tutorial for this beautiful bag! What is the name of the heavier interfacing of the gusset, and what was the microtex needle that the double-sided tape won't stick?
@CountryCowDesigns
@CountryCowDesigns 9 ай бұрын
The needle is just called microtex and made by a few companies. The gusset used peltex stabiliser but the instructions on the pattern come with some advice on other options

Forgot something. lol When you make the adjustment for scant or regular 1/8 of 1/4, are you using any special guide on your presser foot or on the guides on the marked plate? It stays so consistent - I think I go overboard when it comes to getting good stitching.
@CountryCowDesigns
@CountryCowDesigns Жыл бұрын
No there’s no guides on the foot but I just try to stay focused on a specific part of the foot and make sure it stays consistent. it doesn’t always work but most of the time it comes out ok 😁

What stitch length are you using and what type of thread. Your top stitching is great! Thanks
@CountryCowDesigns
@CountryCowDesigns Жыл бұрын
Thanks, this is the thread I like to use. I change up my stitch length depending on the part of the bag I’m doing, shorter for curves, but a size 4/5 for everything else littlestitchersews.co.uk/collections/thread/products/white-saba-tex-40-polyester-thread-1000m-1000

Thanks for responding and going to try the thread. It really looked good on the fabric and lots of colors. Cutting the pattern out …now to stick to a plan and get it sewn.

Is Tex40 a thread that can be used in a domestic machine for bag making?

It works brilliantly in my domestic, for both the top and the bobbin. Perhaps it won’t for every domestic machine, but it certainly does for mine 😁

That didn’t translate clearly but if you mean the iron on interfacing, it’s available from Serial Bagmakers: serialbagmakers.com/shop/wovenfix2/ And the Decovil Light stabiliser is available from her too: serialbagmakers.com/shop/declight90/ Hopefully that’s what you needed 😁
