Thanks for the great tutorial! I used to use Blender years ago just to render cool scenes and eventually quit using it. I got into 3D printing a few weeks ago and wanted to make my own designs and that's what got me back into Blender since I now have a good use for it. Hi! Love your vid. I am an experienced designer with solidworks and work with some awesome 3D printers, but I am finding that my solidworks skills aren't able to utilize the printers full capabilities, and so I am looking into Blender or 3DS Max. For the plastic shrinkage, I would model the parts at what they should be dimensionally and then scale them up in the slicing software. This lets you use different materials for the same model rather than adjusting the size for one type of plastic/resin. Man I have a large learning curve ahead of me. This software is so alien to me coming from a mechanical design background.

Perhaps if you have tips and tricks for preventing broken stl outputs. For example, if I put a hole into a cube that has a large bevel on it, then Cura might have issues with that area.

Super hilfreiches Video. will mir demnächst einen 3D Drucker zulegen. Ich frag mich nur ob es auch möglich ist das Modell am Ende mit einer glatten Oberfläche zu drucken. Die Form hat der Drucker ja super gemacht aber es sieht sehr "löchrig" aus.
@fullstacklab3 жыл бұрын

Great tut :), but why didn't the 3d model look like the stl model, why did it have various lines on the surface instead of a plane surface like in the model
@fullstacklab3 жыл бұрын
Thanks 🙂. If you want to have a plane surface you will need to reduce the layer height in cura. More thinner layers will be printed which also results in a higher print time.

Hi Nice tutorial! Can i ask why the descaling in blender before export and then re scaling it back in cursa ?
@metanaut97833 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial! Quick question though, why do you need to set the scale to 10 when exporting the stl file?
@fullstacklab3 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) About your question, Blender standard scale is 1m (1 Blender unit) and the .stl format has no units at all. Cura and other slicers seem to interpretate those units as 1mm. Depending on your scale settings in Blender you need to scale your model up (by a factor of 10, 100 or even 1000) or down when exporting the stl file. This way you get the same dimensions in Blender and Cura. If the scale in Cura doesn't match your scale in Blender then you can still adjust it afterwards (just like in the video).

What graphicd card is good enough for 3d modeling and sculpting models for 3d printing in 2022? Not rendering
@fullstacklab2 жыл бұрын
For pure 3d modeling and sculpting the gpu is not that important. A solid cpu with enough ram (8-16gb) is more than sufficient. From what I know a solid gpu can improve the performance during sculpting. But only during rendering a high performance gpu is really needed.

When you say not to model anything with an angle greater than 45 degrees, is that only for holes and shapes on vertical faces, or does it apply when these shapes are horizontal as well?
@fullstacklab3 жыл бұрын
Only on vertical faces. Imagine the printing process like building a pyramide out of cubes. To get the shape of a pyramid you will need to place the cubes on top of each other with some offset. They will support each other. This way you can also create round shapes (not perfectly round). A 3d printer like the anycubic i3 mega is printing layer after layer with some offset. Each layer is supported by the previous one and the angle basically determines the offset. If the offset is too great the layer at the edges won't be supported by the previous layer and will collapse (for example when printing a circular hole on a vertical face).

The subtitles are auto-generating to German. This causes the youtube algo to find a German phonetic equivalent to your spoken English words, causing many errors. It doesn't help to change my playback settings to translate the subtitles to English since the error is already in the original transcription. I think this would be corrected if you changed the video language to English. Either way, it is a good video. If not, I would not bother to make this comment.
