Oh, just being on an airport is cool. A friend of mine kept cars in a hangar (with an office, bedroom, and bathroom inside!) years ago, and there were so many cool neighbors, including some famous aerobatic pilots (the old Red Devils Aerobatic Team), and an auto museum (the Blackhawk Collection).

Those were the days. I had a sweet hangar set up for my toy collection here in FL. Cars, bikes and boats. Then the FAA enacted a rule saying if it's not aviation related, it can't be at the airport. They had a few others too that they couldn't renew the lease on. Not a plane guy so had to buy and build on new property. Definitely a cool vibe at the airport. Met alot of interesting people there.

The company I worked for (37 years) had fuel monitoring systems on Voyager. I remember well when our service manager got called away from our Christmas party for an important call, which we learned was from the ground crew of Voyager. They had conflicts between what the tank reading instruments were against what our fuel monitoring system said should be the amount of fuel used (and the now assumed fuel left available). Basically static readings against dynamic readings. They were seriously debating scrubbing the flight, but our guy convinced them they could trust our system, which they ended up doing, and the rest is history. So, not that this has anything to do with Ian and his new digs, but it does relate to this video somewhat. Cool digs though, Ian. As in... less than 115°F.

Hi Ian and Jamie I would say congratulations on your new shop if that’s what you wanted but it will be sad to see your old place go. I live in Canada 65 years old so the chance of me coming to visit you in your new location is very slim. But your old place was more of a friendlier place I feel. I always enjoyed watching you guys on KZbin and I could relate to you Ian as a person who builds stuff with your hands. Just feel you guys don’t like people around I don’t know just a gut feeling. When ever someone would send you a negative message it would make me mad because you guys are living the dream and doing stuff that you want to do and I can guarantee that the people that send you the negative stuff are not doing anything that is anywhere near the stuff you were doing. All this to say I hope you enjoy your new building, but I’m gonna miss the comfortness of your old shop.

Good to see your video. It brings back memories from my days with Lockeed when Burt R. collaborated on projects with our development group. Then after that time, my friend Justin L., a retired USAF Col with whom I worked at another aerospace company in Waco Texas, became a BAE program leader as they converted former USAF Jets to airborne targets there. Another odd coincidence is the DC8 NASA aircraft on display was converted at the same aerospace facility in Waco Texas. Mohave is an out-of-the-way place where lots of beneficial things have been developed. Great place for you to be that will allow you a secure place to continue your customization of cars. Our experience in the Mohave while living in Victorville was eye-opening and today it is very different than during the 1990s. Good Luck to you both!

Nice! It's good to see your new shop is in a VERY secure area. I've been there a few times. Mojave Airport is definitely rich with aviation history. Did some testing with Litton and HEL Out of Aberdeen in the early 80's.

One of my uncles was an aerospace electronics engineer for Grumman from the early 1960’s through the mid 1990’s. He was based out of Long Island, NY but frequently would work years at a time on experimental stuff at Mojave. He’d always tell us fascinating stories of the ‘top secret’ variety. After his retirement he was called in on a consultancy basis to investigate crashes that happened at Mojave. Cool stuff.

I worked on the B1-B project back in 1985-86' when President Reagan came out to see it's maiden flight. There was only 100 built and some went to Edwards AFB and some went to Texas. I was very honored to have been a part of that project. Best job ever BTW. I miss the aerospace industry.
