A: I either wanted to be a backup dancer for Janet Jackson or Fly Girl on "In Living Color", lol. However, I found my way to a busy personal injury and workers' compensation firm, got a job as a receptionist, and the rest is history.

This was a very interesting story! When I was in high school I was convinced that I would be a tattoo artist, but now I'm working as a legal assistant and getting my associates in paralegal studies.

Interesting story indeed. Growing up, I was certain I was going to make it on the "Thunderbirds Roller Derby Team" heck I even got the official skates for Christmas one year. That was short lived but every time I think about it, I laugh. I was about 19-20 when I was offered a job as a part-time secretary for a sole practitioner. As time went on, he quickly realized the following: 1. I didn't know how to type; and 2. I didn't speak Spanish, both of which I claimed to know. The attorney then tells me, you have 1 out of the 3 qualities I was looking for in a secretary, the third one: common sense. I didn't take that very well at the time, but in hindsight I realized that was a compliment. I worked for him for 12 years and learned so much. He has passed on and when I attended his funeral (some 20 years later) I got to see his children (who were in grade and high school when I worked for him). The eldest was partner at the practice and continues that legacy, his daughter is the 9th Cir. COA Federal Public Defender for the Central District of California and his other son is Deputy City Atty at the SD City Atty's Ofc. I am certain he is extremely proud of all their accomplishments.

Hello, Misty: I love your personality and the passion you have for the field of Law. I am in my fifty's, and I have always been interested in law, but have a background in the medical field and currently working as a claim's specialist in auto, property, workers comp, and general liability. I am wanting to be a paralegal and don't have a clue as to where to begin. I have student loan debts and do not want to add to this nightmare but desperately want to change my career path to the legal field. My hope is to work in a field that I feel passionate about and to make a good living. So, with great appreciation and a huge THANK YOU! in advance, I am asking for your guidance/suggestions and what are my chances for breaking into the paralegal field at such an older age? Is being a political sceince student hard for someone who's not interested in politic in daily life? Also I am a full time paralegal student do you recommend me to get a job in a law firm at this time? Thank you
