Bruh, the Disrespect Paul gets from viewers pees me off to no end. "he may be an adult, but he was an otaku blah blah blah" The guy was old enough to know what it's like to BE a adult and he's STILL a grown man in his consciousness. Paul spent the entire time looking for his family and many others who were displaced while Rudeus was half-assing and playing around like it was an rpg/MMO he spent So much time playing that he purposely got an adventurer killed due to his playing around. "oh, but Paul graped Lillia blah blah blah" Sure, but if you've read the LN, Lillia almost didn't care because she liked Paul at the time too.. "Yeah, but, Paul cheated on Zenith blah blah blah" OK, but Lillia admitted to seducing him knowing Paul was a red-blooded Greyrat. Not to mention the disgusting things that Rudeus did, thinks and says in his previous life and this life. The fact that Rudeus never ONCE thought of his family and if they were OK and yo write several letters to leave at any and every Adventurer Guild is poor on his part. He spent 6 months relaxing in the Dedoldia village and Still never thought to write a letter or ponder on the Teleportation Disaster. Yall can NEVER convince me that Paul was a "dirt bag" when he was the most down to earth character in the entire novel, cursed by the fact that his son wasn't REALLY his son and made him feel like a failure. If I get Isekai'd and spend 7yrs being raised, fed and nurtured by a married couple who saw me as their son, I'd grow quite attached to them while still keeping the memories of my 'real' parents strong in my mind. Yall forget Rudeus skipped out on his parents funeral to burp the worm to lolicon corn?!!

I agree.. If I were Rudeus I would join Paul to search for Zenith and leave Eris to Rujierd. Paul already told them that there's nothing waiting for Eris so the more urgent situation was the missing people. Paul was correct about Rudeus not caring enough about his family. even the latest episode of second season his monologue about his mother is garbage.

"he may be an adult, but he was an otaku blah blah blah" Sorry, but this feels a little like a strawman. Yes, he was an otaku, but more importantly he is a very obviously emotionally stunted man. Heavily bullied and humiliated in school and basically zero social interaction for what? more than half of his life, before he was reborn as Rudeus? he might be in his late 30s, early 40s, but it is quite obvious that he is nowhere near the maturity you would expect from someone in that age bracket. Not only that, but you also try to play the "he is an adult", but then also conveniently ignore that, when you point out that he hasn't checked in on his "parents". They are TECHNICALLY his parents, but emotionally he didn't really see them as his parents. And that's no surprise. He has gotten too old to create a natural child-parent bond and it took him 2 seasons and having his own child to finally accept Paul as his father. You are also kind of doing whataboutism here. by trying to point out the many flaws of Rudy. Yeah, bro, we know. That's the entire point of the show. It's a second shot at life. to live it to its fullest and potentially redeem himself in some ways (I personally don't think that redemption is the main point of Mushoku Tensei) Paul is not a "bad" or evil person, but he is scum and is a very flawed man himself. Everyone knows that Rudy is flawed, extremely so. So pointing out all his shortcomings is meaningless in this context. Also using yourself as a hypothetical in his shoes is also stupid. You are not in the situation, you don't know what you would do, nor do I suspect that you had a similar upbringing to Rudy, before he died in his original world. Your argument is flimsy and only works, by basically saying, yeah, but what if it wasn't someone like rudy.. .Yeah, no shit things would maybe have turned out different. but they didn't. It's a stupid argument that uses your own self as basically the moral right. You are basically idealizing yourself. It's just stroking your own ego. What you believe and what you do would probably be very different. Also it ignores that Rudy didn't realize that the mana disaster had far more reach than he suspected. Even so, he was stranded in a dangerous continent. The first thing to do is figuring out how to get back home, before you try to anything beyond that. And all his side-adventures were done on the way back home. rarely was it for the purpose of just "fucking around" and finding out.

Thank you. Paul is one of my favorite characters. That doesn’t make the things he did okay but I feel he is judged unfairly sometimes. In this instance I think the conflict was handled very well. Both Paul and Rudy had things they were right and wrong about Also to your point. Rudy is NOT a child mentally. He was already thinking like an adult straight out of zenith’s womb. I will say though his cheating was entirely on him imo. Sure Lilia seduced him and sure Lilia is a homewrecker, but she didn’t force Paul to do anything.
