I just can’t believe how big of a difference there is between me as a passenger in the back of the plane and the pilots. Like how calm and relaxed they are in their regular cockpit “office” while me being so scared for my life even before take off, not to mention during the flight. Makes me think how irrational my fear is. Great video 🛫

Fear is partly of the unknown, the most informed (pilots) at the front wouldn't risk their lives unnecessarily either. Hope it helps your flying

Thanks for sharing your very personal feedback! Please think always that the crew also wants to arrive safely at the destination. All important airplane systems have one or two backup systems. And even without the engines running, the plane would fly like a large glider. The most dangerous part of any flight is the travel to and from the airport with a car or public transport. As you said, it is an irrational fear. I wish you that you get more relaxed and that my videos will help you to understand more what is going on during the flight in the cockpit. Also, I whish you lots of nice flights!

@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and for sharing your good feedback! An approach in the rain is not that much different from an approach during dry weather. We may need a longer landing distance and we may switch on the wipers or the rain repellent system. Also, we need engine anti ice on when the total air temperature is 10 degrees or lower and visible moisture (rain) is present.
@gonzalolopezsegovia1001
@gonzalolopezsegovia1001 2 ай бұрын
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Thanks for the clarification about arrivals in the rain. Very interesting about the repellent, I didn't know that. I imagine that the wippers will also be used depending on the speed. I imagine that they will only be used on the ground. Or on final approach and takeoff in heavy rain.

Thanks for watching, your good feedback, and your financial support of the channel as a member! The off position of the wipers is in an area where they are not in the main airstream.

Thank you again for another great video. It's interesting to see that still being on a published STAR, a three degree deviation is approved if the weather is requiring it, so I assume ATC had the radar in sight as well😊. One observation was the departing EW aircraft in EDDL before you had a Germanwings callsign, so that is still in use? Keep on going, my next EW flight is already booked 😂
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your good feedback! Whenever possible, we have to stay on the STAR. If weather requires a deviation, we have to inform ATC. They usually approve the turn as long as the traffic situation permits. Some ATC units have very good radar systems. Others are not so good. Especially in the USA, they use a very good system, called NEXRAD. ATC knows the exact position of the bad weather and offers deviations to the pilots right away. Some flights are still operated under the Germanwings callsign. I hope to see you soon on board! Have a great day!

Hey, great videos! Just a small question - i know IRL is different from the sim, sometimes very much so. But what's actually the purpose of hand flying the first turns after departure? In the sim i usually engage the AP shortly after setting thrust to CLB and everything is fine, the AP keeps the required speed and manages the turns quite well.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 2 ай бұрын
It is a good idea to fly the airplane by hand for a while. This helps the pilot to develop a good feeling about the required inputs for the flight. The final decision rests with every pilot. Some switch the autopilot on at 500 feet, others at 10000 feet.

Diese Punkte behalten ihren alten Namen und es wird AB dort vorgesetzt. Sie werden in der MCDU mit Distanz, voraussichtlicher Ankunftszeit und voraussichtlichem Sprit angezeigt. @ApproachandDepartureVideos 2 ай бұрын

Thank you so much for watching and for your financial support of the channel! If we do 4 flights, we usually study all relevant information for all 4 flights before we start the first flight. During the flights or when we are on ground again, we update the weather forecasts and see if there are any changes to the previous information. If there are a lot of NOTAMs for flight 3 and 4, we may study these in detail if we are in the cruise section of flight 1 and 2. Have a great day!

Thanks for your good feedback! The pilot flying decides when to switch on or off the autopilot. Minimum altitude to switch it on is 100 feet above the ground and 5 seconds after takeoff. It must be latest on when we fly in the RVSM airspace at FL290 or higher. For landing, it can be switched off whenever we are below FL290. Sure, and it has to be switched off for a manual landing.

The NAV mode follows our preprogrammed lateral path of the routing and the CLB or DES mode follows the preprogrammed vertical path of the routing. I wish you all the best for you pilot career!

Great video captain. When landing you usually say/apply manual braking around or just before 70 knots. In this landing I noticed you said/applied manual braking a lot earlier before 70 knots. Is this due to the weather?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Manual braking is usually done when we want to brake more or less than the braking of the autobrake system. Most of the time, it happens when approaching the turn off from the runway. With manual braking, we can brake in a way to have the correct speed for the turn off taxiway.

hello again captain of our hearts! I really like your videos and as young sim pilot i try to improve and to learn new things from your videos, which really help a lot! However i have one question. At takeoff, when do you engage the autopilot? Is it standard at every airport at 10000 feet or it is something else that you expect at each flight? Thank you very much again for your amazing content!!

Thanks for your good feedback! The pilot flying decides when to switch on or off the autopilot. We have to use it as long as we fly in the RVSM airspace. This is at FL290 (29000 feet) or higher.

Nice video , why still you apply 160KT to 4nm if atc told you before free speed?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 2 ай бұрын
Thanks. We asked the approach controller very early about a speed limit. He said free speed. For the 4 NM point, the Tower controller was responsible. We did not talk with him about the speed. So we used the standard speed at 4 NM. We also could have assumed that the info about the approval of our own speed may had been valid also for the Tower controlled airspace.

Perfect. 😎 How do you find switching between the A319, 20 and 21?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 2 ай бұрын
Thank you! They fly very similar. The A321 is heavier and has to be flared a little earlier during the landing. Also the A321 is more stable in the air and crosswind does not really matter because of the high approach speed.

We write down the taxi instruction into the MCDU scratchpad. We just type in, whatever ATC is telling us and then we look it up during the taxiing. Please check again the MCDU in the video. You will see it during our taxi-in and our taxi-out.

@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 2 ай бұрын
Good question! As long as we are in a good health state, we usually do not have the described symptoms. This would only happen due to pressure differences and changes during the flight, if we would be flying when our eustachian tube, which is located between nose and ear, is fully or almost fully clogged. It is very important that the eustachian tube is not clogged whenever you fly. To help clearing the tube, you may use a nasal spray. I suggest using a nasal spray which is salt based or homeopathic.

No, we do not have such problems. Only if we are sick. But we are not supposed to fly if we are sick. I am not a doctor. But I assume that if you feel pain during the descent, there may be something wrong with your eustachian tube. This is the connection between your ear and your nose. If it is clogged, it may be very painful during the descent. In bad cases, the pain may last a few days. It would be solved immediately if the doctor pricks the eardrum. I suggest not to fly if the eustachian tube is clogged. If it is partly clogged, you can use a nose spray to improve the situation. I strongly recommend natural products, like salt based sprays or homeopathic droplets for your nose.
