Today we're flying on another Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-8 Max. This time from Honolulu, Hawaii (HNL) to Phoenix, Arizona (PHX), as we make our way back to the mainland. Last week we flew to Hawaii on the Max, so now, it only makes sense to take one home. As is always the case, the views out of HNL never disappoint. From sweeping views of the terminals, which one could be forgiven for thinking is a Southwest Airlines hub now, to stunning views of Waikiki Beach, Waikiki, and the entire Island of Oahu, you’ll want to watch all of this one. I really enjoyed flying on Southwest's Max to and from Hawaii. I think Southwest has the most comfortable economy seating when it comes to US 737 operators. And in general, I personally think 737's are some of the more uncomfortable aircraft to fly on domestically in the US. It didn't feel like this was a 6+ hour flight, and no, I didn't have a seat open next to me. The flight was completely full. If you were to ask me, I'd say you should definitely look into flying Southwest the next time you plan a trip to Hawaii. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy this beautiful out of paradise!

Southwest's setup at HNL seems to change every time I'm there. I think it has more to do with Covid. Because Hawaii has been so strict the funnel flights from the mainland into certain areas. This leaves other areas for the inter-island flights. It's strange, and like I said, seems to change every time I'm there.

@lennyortiz49653 жыл бұрын
Both.
@sla313 жыл бұрын
@@lennyortiz4965 Well, there's nothing you can do about the weather. So, I don't to anything to get smooth flights. It is what it is whenever flight time comes. As for keeping the camera steady. The better your equipment, the better your footage will be. I use iPhone 12 Pros, and they have amazing camera and camera tech. They have built in, real time, image stabilizing, to help get the smoothest shot possible. Cheap cameras aren't going to have this type of technology, and will be much more unstable. It seems simple, but a $300 camera isn't going to perform the same as a $1,500 camera. The $1,500 camera is that expensive for good reason. On top of that, I've had a lot of practice over the years. And I've gotten pretty good at holding the camera steady for long periods of time.

Love your videos, hate the MAX. Even if it is safe (and that is a big IF), it is still a stupid plane and an example of what happens when you try to take a 1960s design and make it fit in to the world 50 years later... Don't get me wrong, assuming it does work as it should it is a good aircraft, but we could have gotten something so much better if Boeing did not take the low cost approach to just about everything.
@richardlewis74713 жыл бұрын
I’m curious as an aircraft mechanic what’s a “60s design”?
@chetpomeroy13993 жыл бұрын
Indeed, there have been many, many incarnations of the Boeing 737 over several decades, this being the most recent one.
@erikc17753 жыл бұрын
@@richardlewis7471 Without going in to too much detail, it is in this case a design that was optimized for a different environment but has been made to fit in to a different one. There is not a definitive design of the 1960s, rather it is more of a design philosophy. The problem is that they could have made a better aircraft if they designed it directly for todays operating environment without having to deal with the history of the airframe.
@PInk77W13 жыл бұрын
@@erikc1775 and they would have to charge twice as much. You think they didn’t think of that ?
@erikc17753 жыл бұрын
@@PInk77W1 Of course they thought about price, however the price of an aircraft is a pretty small sum (especially after all internal dealings between the airlines and manufacturers are done) when it comes to the total cost of the plane over time. Thus a more expensive aircraft doesn't mean airlines will automatically turn away from it. They could have made a clean sheet design, free from all the flaws that now hinders the 737 that would have been a better design. But instead they tried to squeeze every last penny out of the 737.
