🤔 thank you for the video 🙏🏽 I’m also in zone 8A/ DFW area. It can be very difficult gardening during the summers here unless you are using shade cloth and continuously water and compost in place. I grow the cool weather crops ( brassicas, leafy greens and most root veg ) from September to May/ April. I grow carrots, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, exotic greens, corn, cuc’s and melon in the spring/ summer. Stuff like onions, garlic, carrots and sweet potatoes and be grown all year depending on there location in the garden. Each garden has microclimates and multiple zones it’s up to us to figure what they are and use that I do to place our crops. I wish you well with your KZbin endeavors and success in your garden. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 Side note: monoculture planting can work her but the last few seasons I been companion planting and using living much and I’ve seen much more success with the garden, healthier plants, bigger and multiple harvest, less water usage and healthier soil. Thank you! The DFW area is definitely an interesting place to grow; I've been able to do okay without shade cloth so far, thankfully. What are some of your favorite companion planting combinations?

@@OurGiftedGarden that would depend on the plants because some combinations are beneficial while others could be deadly. In one bed I have Sweet corn 🌽, Bush beans , carrots 🥕, onions 🧅, lettuce 🥬, petunias and lavender. In another bed I have Ananas melon 🍈, petunia, nasturtium, sweet corn 🌽, beets, carrots 🥕, onions and squash. In a different bed I have peppers 🌶 and clover 🍀. In another I have tomato 🍅, carrots 🥕, onion 🧅, Malabar spinach, lettuce 🥬 habanero peppers, collards, turnips and nasturtium. I have strawberries 🍓, mint, large leaf sorrel, onions, and basil 🌿 in one . I have marigolds, red okra, green okra, goose berries, cucumbers, lettuce, onions, daikon radish, and Swiss chard in yet another bed. I have several more beds and tubs I have various combos in. I try to use the plants to help each other. One species will act as ground cover keeping to top of the soil moist and cool. One will take nitrogen from the air and make it available to another which in turn will be a trellis for it or be shade to another. One will kept roadway while another will kill nematodes and repel another type of pest. And all are edible.

I live in 8b in North Texas. I love to see other backyards. It seems every summer, I do it a little differently. I have been able to grow a grapefruit tree. I bring it in during the winter and place it in a bedroom with the light on.😊

Thank you! You should definitely give it a try. I started out with two raised beds and purchased plants from home depot. I just grew my garden little by little from there through trial and error and youtube.

Just use 5-gallon buckets and bagged potting mix to get started. One bucket will grow a tomato plant or a pepper plant or one broccoli, cabbage. Herbs are easy in 10 inch pots. Ask lots of questions - we are here for you. Many blessings everyone.

Just a suggestion, if you like asparagus, they are great companion planting with strawberries. But you would need to replant the onions since they just do not get along. It’s my 2nd year with the mixed bed and my harvest has doubled….lovely garden…you inspire me to go back out in the garden, even though I already worked 2 hours this morning.

Great garden tour! Loved all your interplantings, mixing of plants, and all your trees in a small space. I love mulberries, so I hope you get to taste yours. You might want to get some tulle to drape over your fruits, like the mulberries, black berries, gooseberries, and strawberries. Have you ever heard of jujubes? I love them, especially when more green than brown and mushy.

Welcome and thanks for watching! Tulle is definitely on my list of items to get...I haven't had an issue with birds in the past, but I've never had this many berries growing before, so I know they'll find them sooner or later. I've hear of jujubees but never tasted them.

Great garden tour! I really like your tomato bed set- up. I've tried using the so called tomato cages from HD and Lowe's stacked on top of eeach other, but they're puny compared to the size of the full grown plant. I'll look for your other tomato video.

Thank you! Yeah, most of the tomato cages I see are pretty flimsy, even if they are big enough, and they aren't conducive to single- and double-stemming tomatoes if you're trying to grow them vertically in less space.

Welcome! Thank you for watching. I have 8 ft. by 4ft cattle panels. for my arched trellis and for my muscadine trellis. I put two of them together with zip ties. I purchased them at cattle panel last year. The 16 ft. ones that a lot of people get were too big for me, too. I have a mini van and there was no way it was going to fit. Great garden! You are in the same zone as I am in here in northwest SC. I have some of the same things planted as you but am getting ideas of other things to try that you've already tried. You might end up with more tomatoes than you can handle with so many planted. Last year I got 30 giant sized heirloom Cherokee Purple tomatoes from just one plant! You could end up with several hundred tomatoes! ( I guess you'll be selling them as you mentioned Facebook Marketplace. You should be able to make a small fortune just from the tomatoes.) You could just plant your Mulberry trees straight into the ground. Just put a trunk cover around each one to protect the bark and make sure not to plant it too deeply. The part of the trunk just above where the roots begin to splay out should be just ABOVE ground. Many nurseries plant fruit trees too deeply. When I learned about that I went around and found I had several of my fruit trees planted too deeply and had to dig out around the trunks.

I've already harvested about 30 pounds of tomatoes and I'm hoping for many more; we are a family of five and we eat lots of food that feature tomatoes so we'll put all of them to use...I make paste, sun dried tomatoes, freeze them whole for use in stews, chili, etc., and I use them fresh in my cooking when they are in season. I love trying out recipes for different types of foods and so many cultures use tomatoes...I made Nigerian Jollof rice last night using lots of Romas; it was so tasty. I don't sell produce, just starter plants. I hope I get as many Cherokee Purple as you did...they are so delicious. I'm strongly considering planting the mulberry trees in the ground instead of building them a raised bed. My pear trees are directly in the ground and doing fine...I just figured the raised bed would work better since we have clay soil, but I'm still on the fence.

When I initially filled my raised beds I kept it simple: 1/2 compost or garden soil and 1/2 topsoil. Each year I top the beds with an inch or two of compost. Thank you for watching!

I'm definitely not an expert on peppermint; I just have one plant that I planted 4 years ago. I grew it from seed back in 2000, planted it in a container and it's been growing since. I fertilize it everyone once in a while and water it when I water the rest of the garden.

This is the first year I tried to grow a blueberry plant but it died what did I do wrong

It's hard to know what exactly went wrong. Blueberries like plenty of water and they need acidic soil. I have to water mine more frequently than I do other things in the garden, and I add a soil acidifier every 3 months or so to the pots they are in. I also use a fertilizer for acid loving plants.
