Some how I missed it. Megs pregnant? No wonder she's glowing like she is. Congrats Meg and Ben. I've seen Ben over at justin Rhodes several times but didn't set her on those particular videos. Not saying she wasn't there but I didn't notice her in the backgrounds of justin kurt maybe it's been longer. I know they had just found their homestead and moved in. That's the last I remember. I have been away from their channel as something keeps unsubscribing me from lots of channels. Mostly my homesteading videos. I am subscribed to hundreds of homestead channels and through out time I lose them in the line up. Meg and her channel and you all at Roots and Refugee are 2 of the channels Ihad lost. I'm sorry . You gotta blame KZbin. Especially when I don't get notification which is quite frequent. I'm so glad to see you both. JESS, YOUR GARDEN IS LOOKING MORE AMAZING THAN IT EVER HAS, NOT THAT IT ISN'T, ANY OTHER TIME. IT'S BEEN A TREAT TO SEE YOU BOTH. TAKE CARE GOD BLESS YOU ALL. Deb

Two of my favorite ladies on KZbin homesteading. Yay! Meg: the best way to think about rutabagas as a *start* is as a carrot: you can use it almost anywhere you'd use a carrot. IMO a combo of carrot and rutabaga makes The Best Stock Starter EVER, for soups and stews. You can use them raw in a salad or slaw, like turnip, or as a nibble. Mash 'em up. My VERY favorite cooked use is to make a big pot of potatoes AND carrot AND rutabaga AND onion, and if you want to throw in a green, too, as you would for colcannon. But the potato and carrot and rutabaga and onion plus milk, butter, salt and pepper are the richest, sweetest, most lovely mash possible. They are SO worth eating and cooking with. Good luck with the baby! Love you both. Pray for you both. Meg--things you really love that end too soon can be succession planted if you've got a shade bed or two. And I love your flowers. All of them.

Hi Jess, I'm Samantha. Originally from Canada, I'm half Lebanese. You have the fixings for many middle eastern dishes..as Meg said tabouleh with the parsley and onions. Try it with quinoa instead of cracked wheat, it's amazing, (with your onions and tomatoes.) Baba ghanoush with your eggplant and garlic. Cucumber/tomatoe salad with mint. In this recipe, we use a spice called za'atar, which you could look up, and make from all the herbs you grow! Happy Lebanese feasting 🥗🍆🧄🧅🍅🥒🍋

Glad you are growing Ginger. I have some from the supermarket that I planted in a 20" pot (broke off a likely looking piece from the big root and put it in the pot) with good quality potting mix soil. So far, a good looking stalk with side leaves (has been in about 8 weeks and it took forever to sprout as I probably planted it too deep). Ginger is useful as a culinary and medicinal corm root.

Jess, you are the reason I've started a garden! I only have 3 raised beds- 1 has sun flowers & wild flowers in it. 1 has a variety of herbs, zucchini, bush beans, squash, & tomatoes. The other is strictly strawberries! I'm so thrilled just to be able to do that as my growing season is short & we only get 12 inches of rain anually. Soaker hoses are my best friend. My poor husband...I have indoor plants ALL OVER, but this growing thing has transpired into the great outdoors! You have inspired me to just hit the ground running & do it even if I suck for awhile lol.

Sharing your garden walk with your friend... I feel the joy! Meg.. that baby is really growing!! Jess, I would dig up that ginger and plant it in pot so you can move it into the greenhouse in the fall. I planted mine last April, zone 8b, and most of it still was not ready in November. I put it back in the pot and let it winter over in my shed, it went dormant because we caught an early frost. But now it is almost 2 feet tall! I am going to wait until fall to harvest, it should be super large by then. Homegrown ginger is amazing!!

I was able to finally plant my garden. Where I lived we got a couple snowstorms in May so it was about 2 weeks behind. I direct sowed a bunch of stuff this year instead of starting in my greenhouse, mainly to save room in my greenhouse. After watching your seed saving video I tried my hand at saving a couple different seeds last year instead of buying them. I was sooooo nervous that nothing would germinate. It was a looking a little sketchy for a few days when they started to pop up and then BAM! Everything germinated and it was one of those moments where you feel all mighty and powerful for the accomplishment! LOL
