PCV Valve symptoms are generally not "leaking coolant". In this video I will show you how a 3.0t Audi S4 failed PCV valve caused coolant to mix in the engine oil. I will also show you step by step PCV replacements for all 3.0 supercharged Audi engines. PCV failure is a common VW and Audi issue Thanks to ‪@WD-40Brand‬ for partnering with us on this video

Do u have a wiring and vacuum diagram for the things in the back im worried i hooked something up wrong. I am getting an odd loss of power intermittently when i floor it, the engine will completely stop almost to the point it jerks me forward like i slammed on brakes then it will go back to full power. Very uncomfortable, cant figure out what i did wrong, it started when i replaced my coolant crossover pipe. Today i took it all back apart, replaced my fuel injectors, my pcv, spark plugs, and cleaned everything, but now im questioning if i am making a mistake on the vacuum lines on the back of the throttle body. Any advice ❤

I wanted to let you know I had purchased a PCV valve for a 2010 Audi A6 Supercharged. I thought this would be fairly easy change out until I watched this video. I am a financial advisor by trade but I am fairly mechanically inclined (I can easily do brakes and rotors but have never ventured any further than that with repairs) Thanks to your detailed video I swapped out the PCV and it’s running like a top!!! Saved me tons of money and increased my confidence 10 fold The car and I have a different relationship than we had before this job! Thank you so much. Incredible video from you!!!!! Regards, Chris

This exact same thing happened to me on my 140k miles 2012 s4 , and at the same time a transmission line cracked inside the radiator and had to flush that out, and a week prior to those issues, I had to replace all upper and lower control arms, it was a hell of a time, other than that there’s little hiccups from stop to go, according to paper work I believe it does need new engine and transmission mounts, I’m pretty sure it’s the original ones and I’m sure it’s bout out around this time, so with new mounts I do plan on putting some inserts in and see if that definitely helps, just upgrading whatever breaks along the way lol

I've had a buddy help me change my beetle engine and he hooked a vacume line up to a coolant line. Had a bunch of coolant mixed with my oil... did a flush multiple times, 10 years later I still find remnants of coolant on the oil cap. Engine is still going strong. Had 36k on it when it happened, has over 300k now.
@S1l3nthunt

If you only drive short runs, water condenses inside the valve cover and causes a little bit of milkshake on the oil cap. If you drive even like ten miles on the highway so that the car runs at full operating temperature under load, the condensate evaporates away through the PCV system. This might be an alternative explanation

Doing a PCV change on a 3.0t is a right of passage when you own one of these things. The only thing I would say is that it isn't necessary to remove the hoses from the valve covers considering how much of a nightmare they are & how easily they break. You can easily maneuver the pcv out of the engine with them still attached. I'm just waiting on some custom parts from MercRacing to complete our 3.0t PCV relocation project so I never have to worry about changing anything related to it under the supercharger ever again. Also, it's a good idea to replace that breather hose/check valve that comes off the top of the pcv & connects to the supercharger. If it fails it will trigger the same CEL as if your pcv was bad again.

You should be replacing the breather hose along with the PCV valve. Those get brittle with time, and crack on their own. Then you have a CCV failure all over again, and the supercharger has to be removed again to replace the breather hose assembly. Just do both together so you're in there only once.

Protip: you can put a long extension or screwdriver through the hooks on each bank of the super charger to make it significantly easier to lift. Also be super careful to not accidentally let the one of the studs that the supercharger sits on go into one of the ports and puncture one of the intercoolers like I have unfortunately done, lol

Just saw a first last week, Power Steering Fluid Mixing with Coolant. Both the power steering reservoir and the radiator had the same milky content. It was on a Hyundai, the cause was a power steering line connected to the radiator (for cooling purposes I can only assume) somehow both cracked and bled into each other. Stealership tried to scare (and flat out rob) this old lady into saying her car needed $5k in repairs, and that she should just trade it in for a new vehicle (trade in value less than $1500) she took it to a local mechanic and they only chared $600 to replace radiator and flush both systems. Charles thank you so much for your videos showing people how to be a home mechanic or at least understand what is going on with their cars!

Like the long bolt on the manifold, mark pink the bolt head and around the manifold hole. Not only prevent mistakes, but speeds up. I also write a number on parts(hoses, connectors, etc.) then follow the numbers in reverse when assembling. OCD much?!😅

I was replacing the valve cover gaskets and broke the breather hose... So here we are! Pro Tip: cut off a piece of baling wire (the stiff wire that holds its form) and wrap it 90-99% around the plastic hose port on the Valve Cover. Don't overlap it, a small gap is what you want. Use a pic or flat-blade screwdriver and push it up and under the 4 retainer sections of the breather hose clip and it will pop right out. The idea is that you are releasing all 4 of the clip sections at the same time instead of fooling around trying to pry each one out at a time with a pic and having them snap back into place. Don't pull the hose too hard or you will be watching the "How To Remove SC and Replace PCV Valve" videos like I am... The hose ain't cheap either.

Great video. Love how deep you dive into the extra stuff that's a pain in the butt. To be honest though, I think you should've shown how you removed and replaced the secondary fire wall. That is something nobody has covered on these cars and I believe it could be a very critical and helpful tool for PCV, 02 sensors, Rear timing covers, Catalytic converters, Oil Filter Housing, etc... Thanks again for the insightful video, and if you have video of the fire wall please post it.

I not a fan of an Audi or VW 😂. But your video very well explanation👍 Last month I did on a 2011 Q7 for my kid and I forgot to adjust the intake flaps then the check engine light came on so I need to remove supercharger out again😢. And the one screw that hold the coolant pipe I dropped it so I had to put a 8mm from Toyota bolt instead and use a long 10mm wrench ratchet that was so easy 😂 Thanks for you sharing video 👍

just fixed on this exact problem on a 13 A6. PCV coolant passage was leaking so bad when you pressurized the cooling system it would barf right down into the pan from a passage near the crank snout. My money was on cracked engine block but it was for sure the PCV

This video was fantastic! But there's something you should be aware of - silicone spray KILLS oxygen sensors. Just a little bit anywhere in the intake side will do it. Petroleum based stuff (like kroil, or even regular wd40) is much safer.

Can't test something I'll never own though I do most work on my sister's TT which I called dibs on the day she bought it. If anyone knows if there's a steely option for snow tires that'd be great if you could let me know. BTW thanks for your time teaching us as it's saved my sister thousands. Edit: That's true dedication to us classmates when he stops working to heart comments so fast I missed it.

Every time one of these comes into our shop for either a pcv failure, failed water pump, thermostat, oil filter housing leak, or oil cooler housing leak… we give the customer the combo of all of em With dealership parts ONLY. We’ve found that all of those will fail around the same time and fixing only 1 issue will just lead to the customer coming back with one of the others failing. Better to just eat the cost and get all the failure points at once when the engine is already apart.

that is sooo much more work compared to my two piece manifold passat. i think for mine i literally just take off top manifold and then valve cover and its right inside the inside top of the valve cover

Great tips, yesterday I've replaced the pcv because my Autel found a fault code and I had 2 symptoms, the sizzling sound while accelerating and I couldn't remove the oil cap while the motor was running, extremely suction. Replaced it with OEM, and several gaskets and o-rings, no change at all. Do you have an idea of what it might be? And had a manifold code after the replace, so I guess somethings wrong there too, although I hold the flaps open while mounting the manifold.

Probably a dumb question, but I had my car inspected. I see on the labor description, the mechanic recommends PCV Valve replacement with parts in conjunction. Yet I see on the part’s description Engine crankcase vent valve…is that the same thing? It looks like they got a bunch of parts that probably go with it, but not the main component.
