Halloween is like the cool holiday where you can celebrate it at every age-and it’s a different experience! When you’re a little kid it’s all about the candy, and having cool costume themes with your cousins and friends. When you’re a teen it’s about going out at dusk and early night with the girl/boy you have a crush on and snuggling up to them while walking around with your friends or little siblings. When you’re an adult it’s about sneaking wine into decorated and disguised bottles and walking your kids around while tipsy. When you’re a little older it’s about decorating your yard and handing out candy to the kiddos. And when you’re a grandparent it’s about having the most badass setup in the neighborhood. I’ve seen seniors setup entire haunted mazes in their yard for the community to walk through. Halloween is the one holiday where it’s about being wild and fun.

In the US sometimes we have two front doors. The first one is the screen door and some of them are half glass half screen so you can see outside and let fresh air in without all the sand, dust, bugs, regulate the pressure indoors etc. My father at the time was a volunteer fireman and when our alarm went off in our home that we had to alert my dad a fire calls in the middle of the night, my brother and I always ran to the front yard to see if we could see any of the cool fire trucks! My brother missed the push mechanism to open the screen door one day and broke through the glass at running speed, going completely through the glass. He was almost impaled from the shards sticking up from in the frame and he nearly lost his eye... His scar goes from the inner corner of his eye up onto his forehead.

Scream was a parody of all teen slasher flicks of 80s and early 90s. I saw it opening night with my college crowd and it was a fantastic experience. We laughed throughout at the things they nitpick in this podcast, because it was meant to be ridiculous. The original poster had Drew Barrymores face and we didn’t know she would only be in the opening scene, when she was found in tree the audience literally screamed. It was amazing they killed the big star immediately, we were fans from that moment on. The way the kids party despite dead peers was poking fun at Heathers and Pump Up The Volume and Hull High which were some of the early nineties versions of teens as written by adults who grew up with Happy Days and the Brat Pack. They wrote stereotypes and then films like Scream, The Faculty etc came along to lampoon it all. When ScaryMovie came out it didn’t much sense at the time because it was making fun of Scream which was making fun allready. To watch this podcast and hear these two share their perspective is making me wonder if films I’ve thought were iconic but outrageous we actually a sendup of something films enjoyed by people older than myself.

Re: Scream as a phenomenon I have two theories on this. 1) really good horror movies were here and there. You basically had 2 kinds: Gore like Halloween, Friday 13th which were not scary but bloody. Then you had ones like The Exorcist, Silence of the Lambs, and those were scary but no gore. Scream combined the two. 2) 1996 is pre 1999. 1999 one movie changed completely changed the way we watch them now. Before, this movie, you would just watch it, try to figure out who it could be. When everyone was shocked, surprised and duped watching The Sixth Sense for the first time, audiences went nuts! I think movies are made like that now with things put in there to twist your mind but it doesn’t work. This was before that and was just a good horror movie. (BTW I’m 50 this year and seeing The Sixth Sense at the movies and not having been warned or told the twist, I felt my heart drop and my jaw drop and the entire room gasp! I also got to find out Darth Vader is Luke’s dad!)

Unfortunately they can't as they've signed a contract with Spotify to post exclusively on there, or so I've been told. If they were to post on here, they'd lose their contract and earn less money on KZbin than what they've been offered with Spotify. A few podcasts that I listen to have gone Spotify exclusive as the money is more.

Native American here: American Footballers wear face paint for many reasons. Ryan was right about two but mixed it into one, it does help with preventing glare, sunburn and absorbing all of the light and make it easier to track the ball midair. It’s also intimidation and make better connections to their fans.

The reason Scream was such a huge shift for scary movies was because it was a genre change. Before Scream, blood, and gore, the possibility or real life circumstances; the prior films were Nightmare on ElmStreet, Hell Raiser, headdy imagination fear of the mystical and unknown - things that in the end of the 20th centry weren't necessarily able to get you unless you "summoned a demon" - Scream came out of the boxoffice as a Thriller but a real life horror flick and changed the genre for good. It was the first time people were shown such gore in such a shirt amount of time before the opening credits, it flung you into the film knowing that it was real, and it could be anyone, one of your friends. Not even the police could save you. The horror genre change after that and followed with I Know What You Did Last Summer, Xherry Falls, etc. There wouldn't be another shift until the release of Saw which showed the killer in the same room making the victims the perpetrators. In my opinion I miss the old style. Nightmare on Elm Street scared the shit out of me, Scream had me engrossed. Saw had me open mouthed. But fear is more of the unknown. It needs to change with the generations as our tech changes to access our deeper seated fears. I'm excited for new change in the industry. I'm sick of more blood and gore supposedly equaling fear because it doesn't. It's now boring. I'm ready to be blown away again.

Also, if ya'll ever visit the states on a weekend during October ya'll should check out a haunted hayride, visit a pumkin patch, Haunted corn maze, haunted houses, and etc. There are also some Haunted hospitals where you have to sign waivers and get your money back if you make it all the way through(around $100)

Drew Barrymore was actually offered the lead role for Scream! She felt she would take away from the movie so instead took the role she was featured in. She felt if she died at the beginning of the movie it would make a big deal for the rest of it. Which in a sense it did, you expect to see her for the rest of the movie but she gets one of the best deaths. (Best death will always be Tatum.)
