don't know if you noticed Anthony but you did not do the rest of the items along the wharf at the time of doing the clone and stamp. I wonder if when using erase, and you have the MAC if the Click > Shift > Click would select the straight line area in this particular image and get the result needed without resorting to C/S. Maybe give it a go and let us know. Too bad the technique is not available on a PC. It my not work simply because the one edge is from the wharf and that likely will transfer to the water but "nothing ventured, nothing gained" and you like to experiment.
@AnthonyTurnham3 жыл бұрын
Cheers phlotographer. Well observed :) Yeah the missing shift click for a straight line is a shame for PC users. I use that feature a lot in Photoshop and would like to see it in Luminar too.

Anthony, I assume you rarely, if ever, need to cope with clipped highlights or shadows but some guidance on how best to deal with over-exposed or under-exposed areas in an image (often notified with clipping indicators) would be appreciated. Are there specific sliders that one should use (e.g. highlights and/or shadows) or are there other tools that can be used more effectively (e.g. Curves)?
@AnthonyTurnham3 жыл бұрын
Great question Tony! I think most of us have to deal with clipping from time to time. I do occasionally if the contrast in the scene is greater than what the camera sensor can capture. At that point I'd be looking at using Aurora to bring back highlight and shadow detail (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHyre5epqch6jM0) bit.ly/2TfoisF_HDR You can use code ATSKY10 for a discount if it's of interest to you. As far as single images being blown out there are some things you can do - providing you shot in RAW. I'll add it to the list for upcoming video requests!
@tonykoch42843 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyTurnham interesting point re Aurora Anthiny because I do use it and recently dropped a note to Skykum support concerning 'clipping probkems' within HDR. For example, whilst playing golf the other day I took a photo where the sun was partially hidden by some trees. As you might expect both highlight and shadow indicators were very actuve.. I thought HDR's tone mapping process might help alleviate the problem and it did to a certain extent. However, the remaining clipping indicators couldn't be resolved by any slider or combinations of sliders...according to the Skylum Blog other HDR users have experienced the same issue. Hence my question to you re what actions you take in AI or HDR when faced with significant clipping in an image. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to your followers questions...I just want you to know how much we appreciate your responses.
@AnthonyTurnham3 жыл бұрын
@@tonykoch4284 Golfer eh? Sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon! So if we're talking about a single image capture then the problem lies in the capture itself rather than the software. Some scenes just contain too much light to dark variance for our cameras to capture. Older cameras suffer more than newer cameras but even my lovely D850 has times when I need to bracket shots to make sure I have the data available over several photos to recover the details I need in post-production. I hope that makes sense.
@tonykoch42843 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyTurnham yes Anthony , it does make sense, my came is the Lumix FZ300 which though very capable for an amateur it does not come close to the D850. I guess I'll just have to remember to take bracketed shots in high contrast situations rather than relying completely on the capabilities of a software app :) Thanks again, your time is appreciated.

BTW I believe that there are about 3 LAi tutorials by 3 different creators available via YT for this issue. Frankly depending upon what you want to add, just grab PhotoScape X either freeware or Pro if needed and use text etc after doing your Export. When you view the other tutorials, you will understand why. Just do a Search for Luminar Ai Watermarks. Unfortunately the Skylum user manual for LAi does not offer any info but is you have a problem I can post links although I don't always on someone else's tutorial.

would you recommend luminar over lightroom?
@AnthonyTurnham2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate. It really depends on your usage and how much money you want to throw at editing. Luminar is a one off purchase and represent s the best value. They both have good raw developing, but Luminar adds extra creative tools not found in LR. Lightroom has better library tools for tagging etc. There are pros to each...
