There are sliders and then there is just true artistic talent. Your grasp on artistic license is simply mastery. It’s like watching every stroke applied by Van Gogh. More tutorials like this are exactly what is needed especially the process of turning an unremarkable image into a magazine quality capture. Please do more landscapes!😎

I just bought Luminar AI and must admit it’s an incredible powerful tool that will become the real game-changer I was actually looking for! Looking to tutorials of Anthony is a very useful way to get started. The way these tutorials are made are an example for a lot of other ... well structured, easy to understand and bringing a lot more info then simple taking us to the .technical parts’ of the software. That’s why I do appreciate this longer videos. On the other hand, sometimes it’s more interesting to simply dive into a single subject. To much info can lead to confusion or overload. To my opinion, both way to approach tutorials can have their specific advantages. E.g. this tutorial about landscape editing, was perfect to be explained in a longer version. But explaining e.g. curves or masking could be a perfect subject to be explained separately in another video, focussed only on that subject. So to my opinion, you’re doing a wonderful job! Keep up the good spirit! See you soon ... !

I've been using Luminar since L18, and have really enjoyed and benefitted from Lum 4. I was able to transition into AI quite easily but have been frustrated with some of the changes and format. It was interesting to see you change directions during this edit. Initially, you brought more detail out in the mountains, and then changed that by increasing the haze over the top of it. I do this a lot. For me, the crop at the end helped but I felt the cloud was out of place. I also appreciate the tip where you turned the saturation all the way up, adjusted the hue, and then turned the saturation back down. I haven't seen that done before.

Glad it was helpful Omar! I'm sure I'll be working more with local masks in future videos. Yes, they're very useful and well worth learning/
@phlotographer
@phlotographer 4 жыл бұрын
be sure to read the manual for LAi. manual.skylum.com/ also, basically what a mask does is to say to the program, "I want you to apply or with "invert" don't apply to this area a particular effect (selection) . eg. while AT did not because of his concept, when he did the last sky adjustment, to me and maybe just me, a mask for just the dark area to tone it down a touch but leave the highlighted clouds with more density could be done with a local mask by masking over the dark sky and then reducing its saturation like AT did. This could be done with any one of the three choices that are offered as to types of applying the effect.
@jamessulester
@jamessulester 3 жыл бұрын
Fine but for the white specks near the river could have been toned down slightly w selective brushing

Great video. Liked the length as it showed us how you used the tools to match your thoughts as you through developed the image you wanted. . For me, that's better than a "this tool does this" sort of tutorial. I've no problem with adding the cloud - clouds occur naturally. It's not like you've added another mountain. Personally, I think you've over cooked the edits by bringing up the details in the foreground- there is a moodiness in the original which I think has gone now ...... but that bottom slider is always there! I learnt some stuff, so thanks for posting.

Hi Anthony, yes the cloud does make a difference, but the sky looks too desaturated, a bit of blue/cyan would have been nicer! More saturation/vibrancy in the sky would have been better. The orange/green fore and middle grounds are perfect though, and your crop helped draw my eye along the stream and into the mountains, whereas previously it was a bit off centre. The path too, which you erased, was a big distraction. Can't wait for more tutorials. Regards, Felix the Cat. By the way Anthony, which camera did you use to take that photo?
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Felix, agreed I think the sky needed a smidge more blue/cyan. I've since gone back and done that in the edit. I believe this one was from my Nikon D800.

The pro tab is fully functioning in Windows. I just chose not to go there for this edit.

My cats are called Henry and Fluff, so it's okay to use Felix.

@@AnthonyTurnham Thanks, I have had these 2 since they were born, Henry and Fluff are both 2 years and 7 months. By the way, I managed to take some nice photos of them since they were a few hours old. However, as I wrote earlier I think imaging software with some pet portrait functions would have been nice as I had to use a wide f/2.8 aperture, so most of their eyes are out of focus. Kittens keeping still? Never!

I've enjoyed your videos Anthony but I have to say I find Luminar Ai to be a pile of crap. I bought into the hype and pre-ordered, watched countless videos on the subject and find Luminar 4 works best (even though I don't use it much). Lightroom and Photoshop work the best for me and better suits the kind of photography I do Ai has a few glitches it seems. Cheers!

Fair enough John! You've got to find the right software for your workflow. Personally I still use Lightroom for my cataloging, PS for my refined work and Luminar for a more liberal and quick creative approach. For me they all have their place but each has their own strengths.

Do they totally destroy New Zealand with wind-power-plants, like they do in Norway? Norway, Germany's "green battery", all completely disgusting. I might move to New Zealand if this madness don't stop, and if you manage to take care of your landscapes?

Hi Øyvind! There are indeed some wind turbines but we get a lot of our power from hydro instead. The scenery here is beautiful and for the most part very well protected.

@@AnthonyTurnham I'm sorry to hear that you've wind turbines, I can't stand them. Yes, Norway is 100% self sufficient with hydro-power too, it's just that Germany want our hydro-power as balance power to their wind power, so they want Norway to be run on wind power, so that German industry can get our hydro-power: 1.bp.blogspot.com/-TF55HCg454w/XrURm53q4qI/AAAAAAABVrI/4r2pnv_co0Q23Y7rGjyngnhfhwtl5SipQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/mountains%2Bof%2Bnorway%2Bsale.jpg

This software is crap! Bought it and it's super slow in everything and crashes often! It is very promising but pretty bad in real life use. Just check the forums in Skylum :(

I think they're swamped with questions from users and are working there way through getting back to people. I wish you the best with a resolution mon ami. Lucky for you I lived in France 🇫🇷 for a year so could understand 😉
