I agree with your 'buy' recommendation. I think the Crossfit is the best overall B van available today, all things considered, even compared to much more expensive Sprinter based coaches. I'm a stickler for build quality and Coachmen seems to have got it right on the Crossfit. The price for that quality and features you get is industry best, in my opinion. Even after adding expensive options (Xantrex system, Ecoboost engine, insulation and wheel upgrades) you could still get into a Crossfit for less than $120k, which is outstanding for all you get. Throw in a Ford serviceable Quigley 4x4 conversion (for around $13k) and now you have a great 4-season, totally off grid, go anywhere coach for under $130k. That's still a lot of cash, but relative to all you're getting, it's a bargain...and is thousands less than any other comparable B van. My only major gripe is that Coachmen should order these Transits with the Ford Sync3 factory infotainment system, instead of putting in an aftermarket head unit that isn't properly integrated with the chassis.

dan - are you a CrossFit owner?? What do you love about it? Why'd you choose it and what can you share with other interested buyers?

Yes Neil we are a Crossfit 22C owner. After thorough research using UltraMobility's review of Class B vans, and viewing other dealer sales KZbin videos we opted to buy the Coachman Crossfit 22C from Guaranty RV in Junction City OR. We attended a local RV show Guaranty was showing the Crossfit in order to touch, feel, and drive the Coachman Crossfit. While we weren't there to buy we named the price we wanted to pay and made a deal at that RV show in Portland. John Monterusso of Coachman was at the RV show and I grilled him with questions and concerns. I wouldn't say we "love" the Crossfit but it was the best choice out there that was non-diesel. Honestly PleasureWay made a class B Transit based Transit gasoline model we probably would have seriously looked their way just because of their quality. We're just getting our feet wet in retirement RVing and didn't want to get anything much over 20' and was non-diesel. I have developed a PRO and CON list on our Crossfit 22C which I shared elsewhere in comments. Happy to share with anyone seriously considering purchase of a Coachman Crossfit. In consideration of the purchase of any RV you can't get 100% of what you want and need to compromise. And each year manufacturers come out with something you'd like to have offered at the time you purchased like we did. Email me @ddoyle1974@gmail.com if interested in more

Your review was one of if not the best I have seen for this coach. Kudos to you! Hi Neil 👋 this was a fabulous review of a coach I’ve never seen in real life. Felt like I was right there with you. I have to say the misinformation and marketing around “insulated” or “4 seasons” is a pet peeve and many products I have tested just fail. It’s long overdue for manufacturers to use A Roxul type product. I had never heard of the other insulation so will go snooping unless you have a good link to share. Also important is in which way they layered or positioned in the coach. My first park model trailer was gorgeous but had almost no insulation which made it prone to wide fluctuations in our climate. Not good. I traded that rig for a Northlander All Season that was was very good at tempering extremes - R- values were closer to then home building values. I recommend that model for anyone who wants a four season park model. Carry on!
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
mishu - I totally agree with you regarding manufacturers not being forthright and honest in general with their marketing. in particular around 4 season capabilities. I've been impressed with Nick Ricchio, the GM of Coachmen's knowledge about the issue and his willingness to both share with me what they're doing; what they've done; where they've failed and what they're doing about it. I speak with lots of coach manufacturers and they have been the only one who could clearly articulate what they mean by 4 season and where they're at in getting there. I hope this trend of honesty and innovation continues with Coachmen and if it does I see a bright future for them. if not...

The only thing I would like added to this coach is a small front table for the passenger/driver.
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
yes I agree with that. even though the driver's seat can swivel it would have added a nice second place in the rig for someone to work.
@cponsler1220176 жыл бұрын
Ron OBlack a flip out on the front of the bath room wall for a table at least for the driver would be great and the ability to drop one of the tables up front would be also. I would vote for a vent in the bathroom and flip up counter extensions too as simple adds that would really round this out. That said it’s one I am looking into and have a local dealer with these in Indy is a plus.

cponsler122017 the driver's seat doesn't swivel unfortunately...
@dandoyle89086 жыл бұрын
Our 2019 Crossfit 22C drivers seat doesn't swivel. The parking brake handle is in the way. Coachman indicated their looking into making the parking brake retractable into the floor in order to allow the drivers seat to swivel. Thats one issue I brought up with John Monterusso of Coachman a the fall RV show in Portland, Oregon.
@scotttea20485 жыл бұрын
Maybe retro fit an electric emergency brake to eliminate the existing handle and allow for the drivers seat to swivel also. Two cabin swivel seats is a must for me.

Great review as usual, this van wasn't even on my radar and now it is my near-final choice. I had a good look at the Crossfit 22C Li3 at the RV show in Pleasanton last week. A few additions to the points in your review (sorry if they are in there and I missed them). CON: a table that plugs into the floor is not nearly as good as a Lagun mount rear window vents open sideways, thus not good in rain parking brake blocks drivers seat from rotating and is in the way for passing through the couch and ottomans are not as soft as the Pleasure Ways' PRO: it has a full-sized spare tire, increasingly rare on class B's also a hydraulic jack securely stored under the rear sofa a large grab bar at the entrance no step in the aisle on the "C" version

We are extremely happy with our CrossFit 22c so far. Of course we only have about four thousand miles on it but the fit and finish is excellent. It has extremely good driveability and thankfully our dealership has a stem to stern warranty, for a price of course. The chassis warranty is Ford's standard 3/36. There were a number of errors in this review however, the windows are hinged not sliders, Coachmen is owned by Forest River not Fleetwood, and the lithium battery package is available now not in 2019. Otherwise very good review. Much more detailed than most I have seen.
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
hi there and thank you so much for sharing your owners review of the crossfit! owner reviews are the most valuable. couple questions and comments: the rear lounge windows in the crossfit I reviewed slide open. they are not awning style windows. are yours different? yep I made a mistake and said Fleetwood and not forest river - good catch. the lithium battery package is only available today on order. that's directly from the GM's Nick Ricchio whom I interviewed extensively for this review. where are you seeing it available on current models? This would contradict what Coachmen is telling me. Per Coachmen the lithium Li3 system will only become available in January 2019 on models coming off the line however it was announced last month.
@bjgdal6 жыл бұрын
@@Ultramobility yes I, and most of the folks on the CF Facebook page have hinged windows. Perhaps they have made a change in the most recent model. @bjgdal6 жыл бұрын
@@freebirds6047 prior to owning this CF I had a 29 foot Class C with dual tires. I never had any difficulty with stones getting in between them. But admittedly I never did any serious off-road type travel. I'm not quite sure I understand your concern with the awning from my perspective it is mounted appropriately and functions fine. There is a small difficulty with these when they are new as they stick in the housing the first few times you try to open them and you tend to need to pound on the end of it to unstick it. But that has been a minor issue.
@dandoyle89086 жыл бұрын
Glad to finally see your review of the Crossfit although after much research on my own I've already purchased the "C" model. One comment you make about engine upgrade to a higher hp and torque option. You say upgrade is a 3.7 liter but actually it;s a 3.5 twin turbo that's the upgrade not a 3.7 turbo as you state in your review. The 3.5 twin turbo is the same engine the F-150 uses and is well worth the upgrade especially if a potential buyer is consider towing. Another thing I noticed was while the "D" version has the step up to the bedroom the "C" with the sofa bed doesn't have a step up.

Dan - do you like your Crossfit? Despite step-up, I'm leaning towards D model as you can get a little extra storage under bed from back (pseudo garage). Hoping they have some at the Palm Beach show in February. We were at Hershey, but must have missed the Crossfit!

I have a list of pros and cons on the Crossfit. I can email you the Pro/Con list. This was our first RV purchase and I wanted the compactibility of the Transit 22'2" in the Crossfit. I didn't like the seating configuration of the "D" model and went with the C model because of the power sofa which is way more comfortable for seating than the bench seats. For me I want to recline while seated and you can't do that with the D model. Yes, you give up the storage and hauling versatility with the C model with the sofa bed versus the D. I like our Crossfit but I can't say I love it. To early to tell since we haven't really used it except for an over night here and there.

Excellent video and really nice camper van. I wish there were lots more Class B’s based on the Ford Transit. The prestige of a MB Sprinter-based unit for me is far, far outweighed by 1. the cost of repairs; 2. the cost of replacement parts; and 3. the hassle of finding certified MB mechanics. I totally agree with you, this vehicle DEMANDS a 3-year warranty! My only issue is that the wet bath is just TOO cramped. You’re a slim guy and it looked uncomfortably tight even for you.
@Ultramobility5 жыл бұрын
i hear you on the mb chassis but i've owned two and the cost of ownership isn't too bad if you don't take it to mercedes for repair but to a certified third party. that's what i do.

A few shortcomings. No window or fan in bathroom, will always smell wet and grow mold. No standard inverter, come on. Bare bones entertainment system. Still a good value compared to Mercedes based units, and not diesel powered. Seals a hole in the market with the death of the Hymer Class b. A longer warranty would make purchasers have more confidence in the product.

Hi Neil another excellent review. I do believe that Coachmen is part of Forest River and not Fleetwood. I love the Transit chassis with 3.5 eco boost for the power and ease of service. It was odd that they don’t offer AGS with the under hood generator on the Li3 option.

Your reviews are always excellent, Neil. Thank you. Its amusing that for years RV makers used fiberglass insulation which does not work in RVs, until the DIYers came along and used mineral rock batting, denim, sheeps wool, spray foam, polyiso foam, and thinsulate. Now the commercial foks are catching up. What took them so long? The cost is the same for mineral rock and the pink fiberglass stuff. Just slow to change. Phase Change Insulation - not entirely plant based if the sacs are made from plastic, eh? Also, the assertiion that it cools 20 degrees less than conventional, can this be verified? Were independent tests done on this or is this an inflated claim from RV maker? Looks like Phase Change Insuation is a bigger version of Reflectix, minus the coconut oil.

Neil, Appreciate all your great reviews and have watched several multiple times. Like you, I'm an analytic person and am doing my homework before making a purchase of a class B. I am, however, confused with your "buy" recommendation on the Coachmen Crossfit/Beyond 22D while you only gave the Coachmen Galleria 24 FL a "consider" recommendation just a few weeks earlier stating that was based on the 1-year warranty. I am, at this stage torn between the Coachmen Beyond or the Galleria and the Pleasure-Way Lexor. I agree that Pleasure-Way goes to the extreme in their build quality but I also like what I see in the Coachmen build quality thus far. I understand the big difference between the 5-year vs 1-year warranty as well, but what is the cost of a good extended warranty? Given Total Cost of Ownership is about equal between gas and diesel, I like the safety features of the Sprinter the most but, am concerned that the Dodge on the Pleasure-way is seriously lacking in those features while the Ford has some of the safety features and the Mercedes all of the features which influenced your purchase decision. You did state that you felt that Coachmen could go with a 3-year warranty but you felt the potential liability kept them from improving their warranty. Again, why only "consider" the Galleria but "buy" the Crossfit / Beyond? Keep up the good work and don't be afraid to hammer those manufacturers that aren't putting out a decent quality product. At a minimum price of $70k for a Class B, these are major purchases for most folks and we all want you to keep telling it like it is. Thanks again for being out there and calling out the good, the bad, and the truly ugly.

Thanks for the review, you covered everything. I have just a few problems with the Crossfit. First, I am 6'4" and over 300 lbs and that shower feels claustrophobic. It is the way it curves in at the top. My extra six inches over you makes this shower problematic. Second, that bed is the exact same length that I am, 76". That is a small problem. I also have bad knees and putting the fridge low is a problem for me. I would find that freezer difficult to use. I wish that the freezer was a drawer. Thank you for the information on the quality of the cabinets, and the suspension upgrade. The Crossfit has a great price and it is still on my consider list. I just wish that I could figure out how they took five inches out of the interior height.

Excellent review! As a tall guy, this van has several features that make it enticing. One question: what are the long term service implications of having dual wheels? It seems obvious that replacing 6 tires will be significantly more expensive than replacing 4. Besides the handling, are their any other pros/cons to having dualies?
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
mainly for handling and carrying the load of the coach. I had dualies. I now don't have them but my chassis is 3 feet shorter. I think they are good on longer chassis.
@altapia545 жыл бұрын
Please always state the towing weight. Also does the towing weight increase with the turbo?
@mjcubo22465 жыл бұрын
Please correct me if I misunderstood - if one opts for the Li3 lithium batteries w/ 3,000 inverter and 3300w under-hood generator then the water tank goes outside the coach and will no longer be protected from freezing in colder climates in the winter (thus it will cease to be a 4 season vehicle) BUT if one just takes the "Power Plus Package" that includes a 2,000 inverter it will continue to be a true 4 season vehicle. Something that I have noticed in most KZbin presentations (yours included) is that heating capacities are always discussed but cooling capacities are not. How well does it stay cool in a hot and humid environment? Is there a 20 degree difference in temp there too? I live in a place that gets below freezing in winter and up into the high 90-to-low 100 degrees. I don't want to freeze to death but I don't want to suffocate and melt away either. I am new to this but seriously looking (this is how I found your channel). Since you did not mention any dual pane windows I'm guessing this doesn't have them and may not keep me cook in the summers. Anyone with true facts please feel free to comment.

@@Ultramobility Any idea of their approximate selling price?
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
well they're not out yet - sometime in January for the li3 system for the CrossFit so if you ordered now you likely wouldn't get much of a discount. but if the galleria is any indication then i'm seeing li3 coachmen gallerias for $130k with an msrp of $164k. that's a 20% discount right off the bat and i'm sure you could work them down lower. so if the crossfit li3 holds to the same discounting then i'd say maybe a 20% discount? it's hard to tell too because if it turns out that the crossfit li3 system is really popular and dealers can't keep them on their lots then the discount will be less. make sense?

The Polar Package which is only available on the GAlleria at this time is rated to -27 degrees below freezing. They don't state what the CrossFit can go down to. Maybe Nick their GM can chime in. It's 20 degrees lower than what the previously had been rated at with internally plumbed lines and tanks. Let's assume they were down to say 35 degrees before then with the next upgraded insulation they're down to 15 degrees. but then again I'm not sure and they would need to chime in.

Neil, thanks for van reviews. I was confused with this review for several reasons, since the gray tank and black tank does not have heating pads how can you make the declaration that its a 4 season van. Then it further compromised if you upgrade to the Lithium battery upgrade forcing the fresh water tank being moved to the outside of the van further reducing the capability to be a 4 season van. It appears to me this is a 3 season van. Without the lithium package the owner would still need to upgrade the van to make is possible to be able to work in 4 seasons, but still it would need to be tested. Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance.

In situations where you expect freezing temps overnight, can you forgo tank heaters by just sacrificing some black/grey water capacity and putting a gallon or 2 of RV antifreeze in each?
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
so if the temp is not going to go much lower then freezing and then rise up during the day above freezing there's likely latent heat energy in the water to keep it from freezing in the tanks. if the temps go down much lower than freezing or the next day temps remain below freezing then you run the risk of tanks starting to freeze. I've use the method that you outline for temps in Quebec that drop far below freezing in the winter but it takes a lot of antifreeze: like 50% or more to keep the tanks from freezing. that basically means you flush with antifreeze. that worked for me but you do need to use a lot of antifreeze. still the antifreeze won't keep the liquids from freezing in your tanks. they will freeze at sufficiently low temperatures but the key is that the liquid hopefully doesn't expand so much as to crack your tanks. its a misnomer that antifreeze doesn't freeze. it does. its not supposed to expand. but when you dilute it it will expand. the more dilution the more expansion. make sense?
@Adiscretefirm6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the explanation, I was thinking about north Florida deer season, often dipping into the high 20's at night, but almost always getting above freezing during the day.

As always a spot on video. Would you say the quality matches the IROK?
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
mmmmm, no. in some ways it's better but in other ways it doesn't match it. when you go into an IROK it feels higher quality. the fit and finish is higher. tighter. materials are higher quality. but the components on the two are comparable and the insulation on the CrossFit is on par. the drawers and cabinets on the CrossFit hold their own against the IROK.
