Love my 700 grizzly. I'd like a 1000 but I don't think for a second I've needed more power. I do amazing things with the 700. The low end grunt and simplicity of the 700 stroker is awesome. I love it. I'm getting a little sick of all the "stay relevant" comments from reviewers. You know what the competition needs with bigger engines need to stay relevant? They need the reliability of the grizzly!!! Few have it. Certainly not canam or Polaris.

I’ve always been a Honda and Kawasaki guy. My first ATV was a Honda Foreman great machine, but more for work than play. My next machine was a 21 Grizzly 700SE, great looking machine performs flawlessly. Hate the soft suspension and Zilla Tires. Next machine was a 12 Grizzly 550, great little machine, perfect size and great power to weight. We just recently bought a 16 Kodiak 700SE. Another great machine didn’t realize how much smaller it was than the Grizz. But it is and you guys are bang on that this is a perfect machine for the girls. I find it too small for me. My only complaint is the tires, not enough bite, I foresee some Swamp Lites in the near future. Great review of this machine, like all your videos!! You guys steered us in the direction for another great purchase!!

Belts only break and glaze if you abuse and misuse them. If you know how to properly operate a belt-drive CVT, you won't have problems.
@Holden-McGroin
@Holden-McGroin 5 жыл бұрын
I’m not saying it’s not a wear item, cause it is. And yes, eventually it will need to be replaced, but the super-majority of belt failures are operator error. I have a RZR XP1K with over 700 miles of aggressive riding in east coast trails and my belt looks the same as it did new. In fact, out of my whole riding group the only belt that’s ever been changed due to failure was on a RZR 800 that was primarily operated (and beat on) by children. And that belt didn’t break, it was just badly worn and popped off the clutches. We have powerful machines (800-up) and ride aggressively through gnarly, wet, rocky, steep trails and our belts are fine. There are plenty of guys getting over 6000-7000 miles on factory Polaris belts. So yes, it’s a wear item, but most failures are rider-inflicted.

Based on your video, I just purchased the non SE version. I was going to buy another Honda but I already have two and they are being sold. For years Honda has been throwing us bread crumbs as far as options and definitely power is concerned. In the 90's, Honda was a relevant car company here in Canada. So much so that I worked for them for 11 years their building cars. Honda makes a reliable machine but they lack in power and innovation.

I just had some family members purchase both of these and here's a few observations I made. The can am has a smooth power build with good power for the size. The Yamaha is about equal when it comes to acceleration, however there's is a lot more torque right off of the bat then tapers off quicker. The Yamaha is laid out much better for basic maintenance like changing the oil.

Jason Morehouse extra clearance, extra storage pockets, not a fan of the led lights. Never owned or used a quad before either, and when I originally looked at getting a kodiak, everyone told me to buy the grizzly and I would be happier with it. I didn’t get the one with the 14’s and zillas, I’m young but old school: less rim and more rubber. Still looking for a good upgrade tire for where I live. Main use of my quad is hunting, so need something that will climb over logs and slash piles, but still pull through skeg. Buddy I hunt with runs his Honda foreman on 27” interco swap lites. I was thinking of going to a square setup and running the 28” version for more lug but just don’t know. At any rate, minus the tires I am happy with my Grizz.

My current atv is a modded yamaha raptor 770cc with plus 2mm exhaust valves plus 3mm intake valves stroker crankshaft, 105.5mm cylinder and piston with 11:1 compression piston. Efi controller with several other things. 23" tall tires out front and 22" tall tires out Back. Rock Town, could you share the ride differences between the grizzly and the Kodiak? Looking at a Kodiak, is it as smooth and plush as the grizzly? Does it turn better the the grizzly? I had a 16 grizzly, didn't like the 708 or the way it turned, the grizzly, at least mine, acted like you had 200 - 300 lbs on the back rack. I was never able to get it to turn like my other quads. In the hands of an experienced rider riding within their abilities, risk of a rollover is low. In most cases, the vehicle is being ridden irresponsibly or beyond the skill level of the rider. Take precautions such as wearing a helmet and ride at a pace you're comfortable with.

that's false.... 1st of all Fuji is owned by Subaru and 2nd of all the 686 is a Yamaha engine. there is nothing "new" about it either.

Yamaha Needs a longer wheel base. I find my Suzuki 750 doesn't "WHEELIE" when your claiming extreme obstetricals. MY Yamaha is not as Confident inspiring as my Suzuki with a load on. I think it's because The wheel base is slightly longer on my Suzuki and the engine is farther forward. The rear wheels are over the load. Unlike the Yamaha which is forward of the load when it's on the rear racks. Load on a couple salt blocks, Hay bale and Traverse up a trail. YAMAHA is very tippy.. My Yamaha has almost come over backwards on me a few times. It's for sale!

It’s nice 👍 but for $9,300 I’d just get the Grizzly . Why did they go from 708cc back to a 686cc engine platform for these Yamaha ATV ‘s ?
@BartStar009
@BartStar009 5 жыл бұрын
Yamaha went with the 686 due to new lower emissions and the new engine is being made in the Fuji plant that also makes the higher end Yamaha motorcycle engines. There have been issues with the 708 engine but most owners reported no problems. The 686 engine has better lower end torque but the 708 has higher HP. The 686 runs super lean and runs very hot for low emissions and improved gas mileage. The throttle mapping is improved, the power is there instantly. The new 686 engine is a torque monster but you won't win any races with it.

You guys realize how ridiculous you sound in this review? So the kodiak is in your opinion the new flagship because the grizz is no longer valid? And Yamaha actually sponsors your show! Here’s a hint, not everyone wants let alone needs one of your canukistan made 1000 pound 90hp vee twin behemoths, first reason is they don’t want to become friends with the service manager of their dealership since they’ll be seeing him a lot. Secondly the grizz has plenty of pop for anything you could ever want to do except drag racing the vee twins. Also, the 850 parallel twin is never going in this chassis so let that dream go. The next logical move for the grizz is an all new single cyl, no really, KTM has a 690cc single making 72hp bone stock so even if yammie bumps up the displacement and brings out an all new motor and it makes 60hp from the factory, that would be huge, and make an already great machine greater without adding more weight and mass.

TheOMEGANOX I definitely agree with you but the issue with making HP out of small motors is they loose reliability and the motors won’t last as long. I think if Yamaha was to do anything they would probably come out with a 800 twin making less power then al the other guys but the motor would last for ever

True not everyone wants a 1000cc making 90hp, but it'd be nice if Yamaha made something a bit bigger, and the wolverine 850s and yxz 1000 are quite reliable so I'm sure whatever motor Yamaha would put in the grizz, reliability wouldn't be an issue

The 850 has 69 hp and should be very reliable. The yxz 1000 is a 3 cyl and wouldn’t fit in an atv.
