Yeh I think the wing droop is definitely too pronounced - I'm glad you mentioned it as it's been bugging me but I wasn't sure if I was just imagining it. If you look at the real thing taxiing fully loaded, the downward droop is actually still quite subtle. The way they've done it looks more like the A380 style droop, which is very extreme!

Thanks for the review. Just bought the FSX version a few days ago. Taxiing is a joy, the sounds are just mesmerising and the 747 handles very well when flown manually. I like the overall feel; it feels heavy, sophisticated, tangible and it feels high (above the runway).

PMDG version is definitely the ultimate 747 sim. iFly gets fairly close and the SSG X-plane addon is missing system depth... Wish PMDG would develop all of their addons for X-Plane 11 ;-)

Nice video, now the jumping digits on the MCP can slowly drive you nuts in the virtual world as well as the real world. What ends up happening is that when you spin the selectors of the MCP fast, you can be off by a digit or two once it settles, and then you have to reset or tweak it down or up. Looks great and is extremely realistic...

Does the PMDG 747 run well on FSX? Since my computer says no to X-Plane 11 and the new MSFS2020, I stick to FSX. But PMDG products are pretty well known for their price tag, I rather ask around before buying something that wouldn’t do well in the end! 😬

@@corycollier Thanks for your feedback, mate! I’m relatively new to flight simulations although I used to play FS09 and FSX as a kid, but just for fun. Now, I usually fly the Default versions of FSX aircraft, mainly the CRJ 700 and 747. As I’m a big fan of the 747 anyway, I hoped to get a version with more system depth than the defaults, so I can also learn a bit about operation of the Queen! ;)

Fantastic video, thanks for sharing. A few people have mentioned the wing droop, but am I the only one who is drawn to the centre window post on the windscreen? When sitting in the left hand seat the centre post makes the left windscreen very small and the first officers window massive!!!!! Its bugging me maybe more than it should.

Thanks! I guess that's just an optical delusion. If you move your eyepoint to the center of the cockpit you will see that the windows are equally big.

I would LOVE love love it if PMDG brings all of their excellent aircraft (at least the 737 and 777, maybe the 747 and others) to the X-Plane platform. I know they already have with the Douglas DC-6 Cloudmaster, and I understand they are working on more releases for X-Plane, but I can also see value in perhaps dropping support for FSX? I know FSX and P3D are likely still similar in structure in terms of base code, so it might not be much of a hassle anyway, but if FSX is taking resources, I'd like to see more put towards X-Plane next time. TO STRESS, I understand V3 is probably years in the making, so it was always going to be released for FSX, anyway. My point is, I'd like to see a focus going forward on the newer sims. I still adore their work, but have YET to buy one of their products. Price point is important. I have envied their top quality... I mean, they are THE best in the market for FSX/P3D, and I have been sitting here with my mouth drooling for about 5 years waiting to get one of the products, but only when it releases for X-Plane. Nice preview! :)

Thanks! Don't forget though that Prepar3D is a new sim, it's way more optimized than FSX and will be optimized even further in the future, also including a 64-bit version. And indeed it would take a lot of time to transfer this airplane to X-Plane, not sure if the market is big enough for that.

Not quite sure if this MASSIVE wing doesn't flex down on the ground. I've seen 747 many times standing in the ramp and the mass of the wing itself and outboard engines always got them a little bit down. Other than that - great vid!

Yeah I don't know really either, it's mainly about the tips of the wings, no the entire wing itself, you would expect with a low fuel quantity that those tips of the wings are pointing down that much, at least that's what people argue and I can agree on that. We'll see what PMDG has to say about it :)

I think that may be due to surge and reserve fuel tanks on the tips of the wings. I never fully understood fuel system of 74 so it's all technical speculations of airplane geek. Cheers!

great video ! 2 questions for you. I have downloaded this aircraft as well. How do I view the overhead panel without having to bend my neck like i'm looking up a pipe under the sink? the 2nd question is in regards to the autopilot.......i get the flight setup in the FMC and all dials are ready to go, i engage the autopilot but then it automatically disconnects after a few seconds, and I am having trouble getting the autopilot to fly the given waypoints in the fmc.....any suggestions would be welcome. I also have the PMDG 777 and I have no problems running the auto pilot and doing a full IFR flight....thanks again for the video.

There's no 2d overhead, you could just move your eyepoint to the right in the sim to prevent having to move your neck like that or use something like EZDok so you can easily setup buttons for certain views within the cockpit. Regarding the autopilot, make sure you don't touch your flight controls and that there are no axis spikes, this might disengage the autopilot.

i have to agree with you i use fsx as practice/dream itching and the only thing worth flying in that sim for long periods of time are the pmdg boeings. but FSX being FSX kind of taints the experience
