this ride is so fascinating to me bc i begged my dad to let us go to it when we went to alton towers when me and my brother were little. i had a whole interest in spooky stuff, but couldn't actually handle spooky stuff lmao. its a core memory from my childhood and i only remember key moments of it, so this video helps contextualise my memories a bit. we went into it, walked through the opening sequences, and i remember being scared of a billowing thing, loud noises, and a voice. watching this, i can tell exactly what part that is :D i was hugging my dad bc i was too scared, then as we were all walking to the area with the seats, the fire escape doors were open, and i was telling my dad i wanted to get out really badly. so we beelined for the doors and just left LMAO, the doors closed after we got out and we just chilled outside, so we didn't experience the actual ride part itself. so i find it really interesting to see what that ride actually was, had i had stayed in it. and honestly i don't think younger me would've been able to handle it pffhaha

When I first went on this ride while we were queuing up no one was there and we were at the front I got so scared when the video started and tried running out but my dad got me before I did and then I realised more people were coming. We got on the ride and I think my soul had already left my body. I was so scared out of my mind and I sat huddled closer to my dads seat and felt like crying. It's great how you can actually visit the Old Oak Tree itself, still wrapped in the chains the earl put on. It lies itself out of the park but is free to visit. From the park however it is directly opposite the furthest corner of X-Sector, across the road down an old path. You can actually hear the screams of the Smiler and the roar of Oblivion when standing next to it.

ok the "ride" part of this attraction isn't very clear on whats going on, why is the room spinning? what is that umm "tree face" and where did it come from? and how does it connect to the back story explained in the 1st preshow? why was all that stuff happening to the guests? maybe someone who lives near Alton towers can explain i'm just a lil confused all i know about it is that the main ride uses an illusion to make it feel like your upside down even though the seats don't move or at least i think i haven't been to Alton towers in my life (i did hear there's also lap bars)
@mollyoldfield7467 жыл бұрын
Ok bit of a long story.... true story can't quite remember it(not watcd the vid yet) a true story of a tree wrapped in chains- that's the tree face thing.... the ride is based on a haunted swing- the seats rock back and to at a 30 degree angle -ish and the rest of the room moves to give the impression of spinning upside down (its really very effective)
@mollyoldfield7467 жыл бұрын
Its a little hard to get the story watching this so I advise you to look up about the tree in chains :)
@dapperloser30257 жыл бұрын
the part i was confused about was why the main ride was as is, after doing research over the real legend i heard the bit of dragging the branch into the vault was made up for hex and well im still confused about it again why is the room spinning and why is it happening to us? also what i meant by "tree face" was the thing at 7:20 i think the chained oak is different from well that
@mollyoldfield7467 жыл бұрын
Yeah the vault is made it for fun and interest, the tree face is just showing the oak that's about it. And the ride is happening to us because we reached the vault with the branch of the oak. Its all magic and such lol don't think too hard about it :) its best to go on the ride

Rate this as high as the roller coasters… well, maybe not as good as The Smiler which is next level… and Wicker Man which is beautifully ferocious… but definitely as good as the rest of the rides. i visited yesterday (24th july 2018) and scrawling through the comments I found it weird that a lot of people was complaining about a smell, then thinking back I remember that it smelt of old building (which it is) like old damp stone, at least to me it did. the reason I think I didn't pick up on the smell was a few reasons 1) I frequently visit old buildings so therefore I am used to the smell 2) the theme was an old building bein restored hence the old building smell and 3) it is an old building leaving me unsure whether the smell is faked or not. like I said to me it smelt like old building but I am recovering from a cold so I'd love to hear what others feel it smelt like
