18:59 absolutely true! I researched ahead of time the benefits provided to my Air Force veteran father from the state veterans cemetery. We went in to the funeral home and were offered an additional “benefit” of seating around at the burial site for a charge. That isn’t even allowed at the veterans cemetery! They would’ve taken our money for providing nothing at all!

We were quoted anywhere between $1,200 to over $7,000 for very basic cremation services for my FIL. All quotes given over the phone. A couple of providers did not want to give prices over the phone so I respectfully declined to go to the shop knowing they would have high pressure sales. I did all the shopping since the more immediate family was not in the right state of mind to make logical decisions. It pays to shop around and to know ahead of time what kind of services are desired.

I bought my sister's urn on Amazon for $40.00. The funeral director told me not to waste money buying from them because a similar urn would cost over $1,000.00.

PS two funeral homes, not chains were shut down here in Colorado recently. The owners are under arrest and one has a warrant for his arrest. They were keeping remains at their home, in a hearst and storing them incorrectly. 😮

On the funeral thing, same thing happens with pets if you want to get them cremated. They have a lot of upcharges and "premium" options they try to talk you into or you wind up getting w/o knowing what the price is upfront. You can get your own kit to make paw print impressions for under $50, but they'll charge you $200+ for that service after the fact, things like that. It's good to try to get all of these options sorted out once you know death is a possibility so you can have it all worked out ahead of time. When we knew our senior cat was on his way out, we talked to the vet and the cremation service and got everything sorted out ahead of time and got an estimate printed out along with the info on their prices for the extra services, urns, etc. That way we had it budgeted for and also knew what we'd be paying going into it. It's not fun to plan this stuff, whether it's for a beloved pet or a person in your life, but you absolutely have to or you will get ripped off. It might not always be malicious, but there are a lot of these services that will nickel and dime you to make a buck.

Cell phones: We always buy older versions of the flagship phones. Usually we get two versions older than the current one. We have been happy with amazon's 'renewed' phones program. They are like new but a fraction of their original cost.

We just got back from Waikiki and had no issues because we used Costco Travel. We don't rent a car because you don't need one because of Uber and the local trolley. We didn't pay for parking either.

Clark…..my husband has been very ill for over a year. A few months back I went and prepaid for his funeral. Now I have received a notice that the firm Insuring this is in reorganization. Am I gong to be out $10,300?

Sorry your husband is ill. We hope you're not out of your money. This is why we wouldn't recommend prepaying for a funeral. A lot can happen between now and then. Read the terms of your policy and ask questions. Some of them are completely transferable, some are transferable with a fee. If it's not portable, after the reorg see if the new owners will honor your prepayment. Best wishes! 💚

Potential buyers of solar generators need to ask if where they live has enough sunshine to charge a solar generator…right? Does Central Indiana currently and potential future weather forecasts have enough sun to charge these generators.

Solar energy works on cloudy, overcast days. Since it's using indirect sunlight, it won't work at maximum production. 🌞
