I believed in personal liberty, self responsibility, and decentralized governance, and the LP therefore resonated with me. My devotion to the party came from it supporting candidates who believed as I believed - not because it told me what to believe & which candidates to support. When the party espoused the same principles I believed, I was a capital-letter Libertarian, but I did not remain so merely out of party loyalty. When the LP tried in 2008 to become more like the republicrat uniparty, throwing aside a long-time libertarian presidential candidate and nominating republican Congressman Bob Barr as its candidate, I was at that moment no longer a capital-letter Libertarian. I have remained nonetheless the same libertarian I always was, but I vote for candidates of any party who seem to further liberty and self governance.
