But that end part might just be me idk

Reminds me of a book I once read: Where every person gets assigned a dragon. Normally those people where able to talk to the dragons and there were multiple species of dragon. Tze boy got bonded to an air dragon but hadn't the ability to speak to dragons at all, and the air dragon was supposed to fly but he couldn't.

If you go back to "ye olden" texts for the original mythology, you'll find that they used terms like 'dragon', 'drake', 'wyrm', and 'wyvern' in a much more fluid manner than people do nowadays, there wasn't really a strict definition for them. I think dungeons and dragons and similar role playing games may be one of the reasons people think these are strictly separate creatures with official definitions now, because the games' bestiaries/monster manuals have to have more detailed definitions so that Dungeon/Game Masters have all the info they need to include these creatures in their games.

I'm not a fan of saying that stuff in fantasy is some kind of allegory to something real, but in this case, I think it could have a double meaning - this dragon could represent both a literal dragon, AND be an allegory about talent - many people have some sortss of talent/talents in something to some degree, but some people don't have much of it naturally - they should develop it from the very start And this dragon could represent a talent that wasn't strong enough to be considered one, but it just was something this person needed to train to make it better, take a bit more effort than most people need to make it stronger - which also helps with further development, since the talent was developed from a very small to a ,,typical" through all this time, and the person will understand that ypu need to do something to progress, bot just rely on what you have now, and also knows HOW to go further in development, step by step, whereas people with naturally ,,stronger" talents from the start, might have more struggles making it happen
