For me, what sets 22 SAS and the SBS apart from all other elements of UKSF is the selection process. ONLY 22 SAS and the SBS do the full 6 month long program, 21 SAS, 23 SAS and the SBS(R) do not. And none of the others either.
@NotSoNiceMotherNatureАй бұрын
I thought the SRR do the hills phase then go off on their own selection which is meant to be very challenging
@Dr.Ian-PlectАй бұрын
@@NotSoNiceMotherNature That's correct, and it doesn't conflict with what I stated. I am referring to the original 6 month selection process, that includes hills phase as the first part.

I remember 4 blades coming on to camp back in 99 while I was in training in harrogate, stood in the scoff line waiting with all the 16yr old junior soldiers. Fast forward to 2005 I went on pre-selection for 23 sas, took us to warcop camp for 2 days the training staff where cutting about camp acting like gods blue stable belts Sunny’s on belittling the regular officers of another reg training. Needless to say I wasn’t massively impressed by the reserves. Fair play for doing selection but the attitude of some of em was 💩.
@JammyDodger45Ай бұрын
I was co-located with Task Force Black in Iraq (I used to be a Bootneck but was a civilian at that point) and they were absolute knobbers, swanning around like they owned the galley, leaving their individual weapons on the tables when they went to get a drink, pushing in queues etc. And then some new blokes turned up on TFB and I recognised one as a former RM I'd once worked with and we hung out and caught up. It turns out all the knobbers were Attached Ranks (mainly Sigs but a couple of Int and REME too) and the actual Blades were sound (and very appreciative of the kit we were supplying them with). The ex-Bootie was the Det Warrant Officer and he gave the Attached Ranks the mother of all bollockings and sent 2 of them home after which everything settled down. It only takes a couple of plonkers to ruin a reputation.

RM make up the largest % of UKSF, anyone who's been on a SF Briefing Course in the last few years will be able to confirm that. The units that make up the greatest number are no suprise at all. It's lads who've already passed an arduous selection course of one type or another and come from units with the largest number of members. Three mins of thinking will get you the top 6 donor units.
