I just found your channel. I love how honest you are about RV life not always being fun and games. The truth is, though, it isn't always easy when you live in a sticks and bricks house either. We just got evacuated for the Kincaid fire in Northern California. We had some panic moments, and had to make decisions about what to take and what to leave, and where we were going to go. We made some mistakes, but we learned from them. Nothing tragic happened, and we'll be better prepared next time. And it makes me feel like I'll be ok when I finally make it into an RV. Glad the three of you are safe. Happy travels and happy anniversary! PS. I just realized I posted this on Veteren's Day. Thank you for your service, and for honoring people who sacrificed their lives for us.

So glad you didn’t have any more problems than the loss of your door mat, a damaged stabilizer and whatever else happened to the rig. With the sparking hookup pole so close it could have been a LOT worse. You both did what you had to do, but you’ve also made it clear that we ALL need to have an emergency “HIT THE ROAD” checklist that is always within easy reach of the door. Thanks for sharing your experience and lessons learned.

I'm glad you guys came out ok. I have a Class A and I have been through a few tough scenarios several of them at the gas station. We flat tow our van and you can't go backwards. Almost snapped the axles the first time not realizing the damage we could do backing up. Also almost took of the top of our RV in a tunnel because I thought we'd fit and almost crushed/killed our cat when opening the slide because I didn't make sure we had control of our cats. She jumped under the bed as I was opening it and she got trapped/crushed underneath. Thankfully she wasn't hurt too bad but was the worst curdling scream from a cat I've ever heard. So I make sure we have control of them from now on. Just a few of our problems we've had. Still love RVing.

Reminder. Hope you have multiple fire extinguishers on board. Both INSIDE and OUTSIDE. You should have one on either side of the bed because any trailer fire will most likely be between you and the exit. A couple outside in a lower compartment or mounted to the side of the trailer in plain view. If you see smoke coming out of the trailer you can't go in to get the extinguisher. If in an outdoor compartment put a RED label on that door noting that there are fire extinguishers inside. Hopefully the compartment door is not locked at the time.

I’ve had a couple of similar camping trips. The first was about 25 years ago. We were camped at a local lake where we had camped for several years. They had built a new dam that raised the normal pool about two feet. We got a six inch rain on Friday and a seven inch rain on Saturday. The new portion of the lake filled in two days. My fifth wheel was axle deep when we pulled out. The second was early this spring. We were on Cottonwood Point, Marion Reservoir in central KS. Our campsite was a good fifty feet off the water. I woke up about 0330, looked out, and the water was up to the steps. I told my wife that we were moving to the empty site directly across the road and I was not going to take time to put the glides in. By the time we got hitched the water was up to the front jacks. She was sitting at the dinette while we were moving. I had about six inches clearance on the left and right both. Rangers showed up at sunup and told us to vacate. The park is not back open yet. We had a years worth of rain in about six weeks.

Very funny. I appreciate you sharing. This past spring, while driving north on I-90, we went through an incredible storm which later spawned tornadoes across the Midwest. After about 50 miles of intense driving in rain and strong winds, I pulled off the highway to discover....our awning was gone. GONE. The awning was completely torn off, its metal poles were dangling. We were too stunned to be mad. We made it to Souix Falls and bought....a bottle of whiskey. We have not replaced the awning yet. We keep a bottle of "emergency whiskey" on board our travel trailer. We will laugh about it....one of these days.

Small world, we were in Branson that night also. Staying at a different campground, Treasure Lake RV Resort. Did you leave before the other side of the lake had a landslide? They closed 76 going into Forsythe, due to the hillside sliding into Tanycomo. Pretty good section slid off into the lake. We left the next morning just because of all the rain and mess, the weather man predicted 2 inches and they got 5 to 6.

That "lake" is always full at that point. It is only a couple of miles down from Table Rock Lake dam, and in reality Lake Taneycomo is more of a river at this point anyways. The problem with the whole Branson area is it is all rock and most all of the rain just runs off, so flash flooding is a huge problem. Especially if the COE does not get to opening up the dams down stream from the Branson area.

I have a fall story...my ex and I had RVs and a large boat in which we would "tent boat camp" on occasion. We pulled the boat out of the water one night and, like with RVs, had our "jobs" when getting the boat secure to the trailer. Because the boat was so tall, there were trailer ladders to assist with getting in and out of the boat. I was climbing down one ladder and my foot slipped (boat, water, rubber...you get the idea) and down I went. He was on the other side of the boat and didn't hear the thud on the asphalt. I couldn't breathe for a second or two and was flat on my back when he came around the back of the boat, looked down at me, and said "what are you doing down there?" I think all he got was "the look" because I couldn't talk and couldn't move for a minute...I hate falling.

Just like in Skydiving. EVERY RVer should practice EMERGENCY BAIL OUT PROCEDEURES. Many different types of emergencies can cause a camp ground or RV park to have to run everyone out in a hurry. I've been there a couple of times in my life. Both due to wild fires. Practice being in an emergency situation. Mentally put yourself into that position and practice disconnecting everything with your eyes open and with your eyes closed. Remember that you don't need to hook up stabilizer bars for an emergency exit. Disconnect power, water and sewer. Coupler, lights, jack stands, quick check all the way around the camper and tow vehicle and you're outta there. You can stop once you are out of harms way and hook up the safety chains and stabilizer bars. If you have time to roll up the hoses and take them with you then it's not that big of an emergency in the first place.

It was definitely a good practice emergency event. We will be ready next time.

Our first night in our class a motorhome, we were chronicling at a Wal-Mart parking lot. At 0330, there was a loud knock, stupidly, I just opened the door, ( while holding a billyclub behind my back. There was a guy who asked me if I was some guy( name escapes me), like a dumbness I said yes. He was a bounty hunter looking for this guy. When I finally got him to believe me of my real name, he said the guy he was looking for lived in a RV in that Wal-Mart parking lot. That was our VERY FIRST night in our RV. Another time, the forecast was for rain overnight, not heavy rain, just rain. Usually, my wife or I remember to lower our electric canopy that's attached to the rig. We both forgot. The next day, I looked out from our dining room window, and our canopy had collapsed from the water weight and the wind. And there was at least, 6-12 inches of water around our rv. A guy from good Sam came and removed the canopy from our rv. AH YES, GOOD TIMES!!!! Gotta laugh about those times.

I spent most if my young life on and around Taneycomo, having grown up in Branson. I think the Corp. of Eng. did you wrong, it was not a flood condition it was Table Rock Dame opening up fast. The Corp. knows how much water is in Beaver Lake that feeds Table Rock and could have given good notice. Great attitudes, Have Fun.

Harold not to be contrary, but the situation was completely wild. Just so you know the full story. The campground they were at is owned by the City of Branson. The City is the one who made them move. The first two rows of campsites were underwater, with ducks swimming around them. BTW the area was only supposed to get between 1 and 2 inches in a 24 hour period. The news in Branson reported 5 to 6 inches of rain in 12 hours! So there was no choice but to release at Table Rock in that type of situation. It was wild, in our camper at another campground it sounded like hail hitting our camper. But it was just Rain fast and furious. There was a pretty significant landslide across from the Bridge going from Branson to Forsythe on 76. Had to close 76 till MODOT and other engineers could validate that it was safe to open 76 back up. Pictures on the news showed about a 100 foot section of guard rail hanging out in mid air. The situation was just bad.
