I was born and raised in St. Louis ,Mo. After getting married and having children I decided the city life wasn't the life I wanted for my children so the wife and I packed up and moved to Washington County ,Mo about 15 miles from Potosi. We will be here a year in May I am so happy we decided to move to the country the people here are awesome...most of them anyway lol. Most family and friends ask how do people treat us here being that we are black and I always say " I get treated better now than I ever did in the city" the people here have a since of community and are always willing to lend a helping hand and I make sure to do the same. I wouldn't give this freedom of country living up for nothing.

Really learned to appreciate my home state after 30 years in ministry and living in Iowa, MN, MT, TX. Finally back in Missouri, and if our kids and grandkids were not in Montana, I'd never consider leaving the Show Me state again. Everything you say about the Ozarks is true. I moved to Florida 9 years ago but I'm originally from Missouri and lived about 15 miles south of Kansas City. I was born and raised in Independence. I miss Missouri in a lot of ways. My aunt lived close to you, in Camdenton before she passed and we used to go visit her at her farm. They had turkeys, pigs, cows, and chickens. They would name their cows after my mom and dad and several other family members. My mom had a cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks. Good memories!

Really thankful you guys put up this video. I grew up in FL and moved to UT about 4 years ago, and I've been researching and looking for a place to finally settle down and homestead. The humidity and weather fluctuations would be no big deal to me after living in hurricane central and a bipolar desert lol, but what's most appealing about MO is the price of land and growing season. I have an autoimmune disease and want to mostly live self sufficient/organic for my health, and MO is looking like where I'll end up. Here's to hoping and planning for a homestead within the next couple of years!

I just found this video sept 14, and really liked how it made me feel. I grew up in MO and have always loved so many of the deep traditions of this state. I know this video is old, and a lot has happened since you made it. My mom was from Thayer and my wife is from Mt Vernon. But the craziness near where I live and the pandemic has closed us off from a lot of travel around the state. It’s refreshing to watch Godly families like yours live your lives and share it. Keep doing this, please. It’s got me thinking about taking it to the Ozarks in a couple years. Peace be with you!

Taka Yama You’re never to old...! You do what you can and you’ll be better off than most people living in the cities. Bake some bread, make some wine or mead, have a couple of chickens or maybe a few Bees for some fresh Honey. Whatever you want. Homesteading is also a state of mind and actions, it’s not just about the work... Just being a Steward of the Land is part of being a Homesteader. This can be as simple as ensuring that the land you own does not become polluted with trash or chemicals. Have a great day and be blessed.

Your comments about your community and it's wonderful people reminds me of a big incident in my local history. I grew up and still live in a small community in east TN where everyone is also nice and leaves each other alone. But if anyone asks for help, everyone comes to see what they can do. Even if it's just moving furniture or a car gets in the ditch. And the waving when you pass on the road is exactly how it is here. I remember that as a child, I felt I'd achieved a big milestone when I got tall enough to be seen in the car and could participate in the waving. About 20 years ago, two tornadoes came through our neighborhood in the same night. The whole area was without phones, gas, electricity, etc., for about a week. Some neighbors lost a lot and some lost everything (and I mean everything, down to the last brick). Part of my family was out before daylight cutting trees and helping the emergency workers (there were probably many others, but I don't know about them). The whole neighborhood was out by daylight helping those who had damage and needed help. Everyone worked for a week as if it was their home that was damaged or destroyed, most taking time off work to help. Another nearby neighborhood that was also hit made the news so everyone knew they needed help. Though FEMA was around seeing what was damaged, it was two days before the Red Cross knew we were hit and came with food, etc. But nobody had gone without because those of us who had, gave to those who needed, including clothes and a place to stay. We hear so much in the news about the bad things people do, it's easy to lose faith in humanity. Though this double tornado strike was a terrible disaster, what happened afterward reinforced my love for my community and reminded me how many great people I live around. I love hearing how much you like your community, how nice the people are and how freely you can share your faith. It's a nice reminder good people are everywhere. God bless America!

John Hunter lol try living in Wisconsin where the weather is different depending on which block you're on ha. Seriously it can be a blizzard in one place and sunshine a few miles away, it's nuts and almost impossible to plan. Lol all 4 seasons in one day sometimes. The winters are about 5 months long, cabin fever everywhere and roads are horrible on vehicles, especially the salt on roads. It's ok if you have lots of 💰 for the winter recreation but lemme tell ya after almost 33 years of it, I'm ready to move on and never look back. Amen

Welcome to Missouri. I moved out to Kansas City for work back on January 4, 2014 just before the big snow blizzard. So glad I did too. As of this year my wife and I bought a plot of land, 32 acres, with a small house on it. The house needs work, but we're getting there. Not a single tree and all flat and fertile. So, we planted 30 acres of red, yellow, and white clover for the bees we will be expanding on and we're surrounded by farmers and some woods too. Plus a big plot of land has lots of wildflowers on it too. Missouri, known for good weather, good neighbors, and that stuff from the sky that gets everything wet. Thank God for it too.

Missouri is humid. It's a different kind of heat than the dry heat of the Phoenix or Tucson area. But, it doesn't last as long and it cools off at night. The humidity here can be hard to bear and many people just can't get used to it. For us, it is still better than the relentless burning heat of the Phoenix area that goes on and on for 6+ months. Our animals and gardens tolerate the Missouri weather much better than AZ.

Its so funny to me to see folks moving here. My family has been in the area you are living in for generations. When my dad was young that entire generation left that area because there was literally NO work there. None. As they retire, many start moving back. I am a real estate agent and folks ask me about the soil in the area. Ha! What soil? But its home and many who came before you managed to thrive. Welcome to the area!

So Funny!! Was born and raised here in Southern Missouri and so many people made fun of us from so many places calling us hillbillies. Our Family has been here since our area started. Absolutely love it here - when people move here they are always telling us it is God's country and yes of course it is beautiful - been all over and these hills get into your bones. So funny again that everyone is on youtube talking about moving here especially Southern Missouri!! LOL! I agree with others SHHHH! LOL Love your channel and that you are close :)

Hi! I live in Southeast Missouri, almost in the bootheel. Born here, lived here all my life! I love that we have the 4 seasons too! Summer is my least favorite! The heat and extreme humidity is awful. If you've never vacationed in Branson, be sure to go there!! It's our favorite place, we go about 2 or 3 times a year! 3 1/2 hrs from us. Welcome to the ShowMe State!💁🏻

I too have lived in Missouri my whole life. West Central region here. I LOVE the weather. HOT and humid in the summer, COLD and humid in the winter. Tons of rain in the spring, with thunder storms, lightening and tornadoes to keep you from getting too bored. Plenty of ice storms in the winter and a good stiff breeze (read that heavy wind) all year round. Oddly I really do like it here! LOL. Where I am there is also amazing dirt. We have DEEP black loam soil. Stick in a seed and it grows. As for the waving... my dad was from down south Missouri and used to wear his arm out waving at all the cars near us. BTW... They wave up here near the city too. Only they often don't use all of their fingers! LOL

Thunder Ridge Homestead lol I'm guessing you are north of the Missouri River, in that good glacial loam... Lucky/smart you! When that wind blows in winter do you feel like you are next door to the North Pole? Used to say that when lived in Colombia, MO. ; )

@@kathleenschaefer8208 I live in northern Missouri, too. (North of Kansas City.) Last month (January 2019) when the polar vortex came through, we hit minus 30 (real temp) but with windchill it felt almost like minus 50. The polar vortex stalled about halfway through the state, so I don't think it reached too deep into the Ozarks.

There's nowhere in Missouri where you have heavy wind all year round. You get it when fronts move through.

Welcome to MO, I'm about 150 mi due East of you, born and raised Missouri. Was away for a time in the late 60's but came back and now have lived in the same house for 42 years. I just found your channel and have throughly enjoyed it. I've been all over Southern Missouri as a radio tech (retired) for the State Patrol. The radio transmitters are put where they work well not where they're easy to get to. The Ava McDonalds was the first place I was ask if I qualified for the Senior Discount. I told the lady not for another 2 months she handed me my order and said "close enough"....I love my home state, I hope your endevors are all successes.......

Lived MO all my life, been many places but there's no place like them thar Missouri hills! Gets pretty steamy in the summer tho, the humidity is the problem, we say that heat 'gets close', stiflin'. Just moved hours south of St. Louis, haven't met anyone not Christian! So glad to be your neighbor!

It’s the same for us. We live in west Tennessee. And moved to the country from a big suburb in the big city. It’s just so nice to be in the country. Now where we are is very hot and humid. I did not realize that Missouri had milder summers. The summer is very hard on me. I have psoriatic arthritis and I would love to do some RVing during the very hot months to avoid the flare ups. I will look into your area. Don’t worry only to visit. Tennessee is home. Thank you for a great video. Leslye
