The RV community and world has always been so welcoming and helpful, at least since 1999 when we started. Our first trip was an eyeopening experience. Traveled about seven hundred miles non stop to a destination using only a road atlas. That was in the days before the Internet, Google maps, MapQuest or GPS. Never towed before, never had an RV before, spare tire? no need for that. Only worried a little bit when I saw the black smoke coming from our exhaust while climbing the Smoky Mountains. We had just purchased our first camper, a 1994 Sunline with about 20 feet of living space. My wife and I with our 12 year old daughter and a large dog called it home. The first night a was deer in the headlight shock moment as we gathered for supper around a surprisingly small dinette that doubled as our daughters bed. Can we do this? Well that trip gave us some the best memories that we have! And yes, we too wish we had started RVing sooner!

We had been looking at travel trailers for almost 6 years before we bought one. We got a Ram 2500 before we decided on a trailer. My husband replaced his 19 yo suburban. We started looking at smaller trailers, many places we like to go to don’t/can’t fit larger ones. Looking at taking extended trips (when we are both retired, at the end of ‘22) we didn’t want to be too crowded. We finally decided on the GD 2600RB. Since we got it, 3 months ago, we’ve had it out 3 times to state parks. First long trip is planned for January down to Big Bend NP. Working on a longer trip for summer’23. Can’t wait. We enjoy watching your videos and hearing your tips. Travel safe.

Great video. Told my wife in the beginning “she’s not that tall”. We did the 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton truck dance in order to keep upsizing. We have a solar/battery setup and the toy hauler came with a generator. Only use that when I need to exercise it. Prefer the peace and quiet of no generator. Good luck on your travels.

We have a 2021 2600RB which we added Lithium, solar and inverter. I wired a WFCO T30WM 30 Amp Transfer Switch right behind the fuse box, ran the 120AC from the invert and the shore power into the TM30. Shore power was just removed from inside the fuse box and then a three foot AC line from the TM30 to the fuse box where the original 120 AC shore power was connected. Got the T30WM from Amazon and it is about $99. The TM30 auto switch is made by the same company as the circuit/fuse box. When we turn our inverter on, the TM30 will switch the incoming 120 AC from shore to the inverter 120 AC. The TM30 senses that the inverter is on and automatically switches to it in 30 seconds. If no shore power then it switches faster to the inverter 120 AC. We can run everything just like shore power, all AC wall plates, TV, microwave etc. Just get a pure sine wave inverter with a remote on/off switch. Hook the inverter to your lithium and you would be set for boondocking. Just turn your air conditioner circuit breaker and the battery charger circuit breaker off when you run the inverter.

I’ve been binging on your videos for the past few days since I stumbled on you guys. The content is great! I’ll make it through all the videos eventually. We love our 26’ camping trailer, but the power situation for dry docking and taking off and going somewhere short notice is a big reason why we’ve been keeping an eye open and finally jumped on a class c. That’s the one thing that’s much more complicated without a built in generator to bridge gaps between being in full hook-up sites. I put a luggage rack on back of the trailer and had 2 x 2000 watt generators I could run in tandem during summer months that I could bring with us for that purpose, but that set up can be a pain to manage a lot of times, and you don’t want to drag that out in a store parking lot or some place like that. Solar is great if you’ve got the money to put in a big enough system, but you really need a huge panel footprint for enough watts to run an RV A/C in the summer. It’s not really feasible without a generator. Great stuff guys!

So glad to hear that! We still love the idea of Class C. Welcome aboard!

Hey M&S, good subject - good content. We are in going in the opposite direction. We DON’T WANT a bigger camper, and would gladly “downsize” to a 1/2 ton with a diesel engine. They are scarce as hen’s teeth! Our 2018 F250 4x4 diesel crew cab is excellent for towing. A bit “stiff” for exploring off-road. IMHO - the best truck / camper combo is the one that is…..PAID OFF! keep it up!

In reference to your bigger truck comment, I hear that all the time. And I do listen to all who have already been there. When I was shopping for my camper and tow vehicle if I listened to the RV dealer my tow vehicle would have been a Ford Ranger or something similar. So funny how RV dealers just want to make the sale. Just saying buyer beware, do your own research. So anyways, I pull a 25 foot bumper pull and my tow vehicle is a 2018 F350 PowerStroke. You can never have too much truck and I have much room to grow.

Love the honesty! :) soooooo how handy are you? installing an inverter in most cases is not very hard. Lifepo4 batteries are super cheap now. you can skip the solar ( have solar and unless you are going crazy with it, to be honest not worth it) Get a generator I recomend the westing house Igen 4500DFC, but their are many good ones out there. The older models had some issues with the auto choke not being plugged in( those issues are easy to fix and mostly are fixed already by the factory) If you ever get over to northern Cali or just need over the phone support on electrical in your rv, feel free to him me up!
