That's the Nut Tree. I learned to fly at the old Travis Aero Club and kept my first airplane tied down at the Nut Tree 35 years ago. I recognized the hills when you were taxiing out! Cool video. Watch out for C-5s and C-17s. (they're are hard to miss)

Awesome flight Chris. I am in the process of mounting my instrument panel on the airframe. Once that is completed, it's on to start my engine... I am close to the finish line but not close enough... Blue Skies...

Hi Chris. I just bought a KR2 built by Dick Koehler. Are you still flying in the Bay Area (Nut Tree)? If ever you had free time I would love to come up and have a look at your KR. I am in San Carlos (KSQL).

Cool video, that looks allot like an airport I know. Are you still flying the KR? Sure would be neat to come by and visit you one day…I used to race Corvairs and have always liked that engine.

@@vr6chrisvw ah cool, I have a 250 so there’s a soft spot in my heart for all Comanches. I’ve been trying to come up with a fun airplane to build, particularly with the corvair power plant. Since Saberwings are getting pricey, a Panther or Sonex might be in the future. I subscribed so look forward to more videos!

I got used to it on the first flight. Very light on the elevator. I had a few PIOs right after takeoff and that was it. It took a lot longer to master the perfect landing but that's just me being picky.

Thank you for your support in making this. A few questions if I may; which air foil did you use and what modifications have you made?
@vr6chrisvw
@vr6chrisvw 3 жыл бұрын
Mine is the 18% tapered to 15%. The files are available on krnet.org. My tail surfaces are Mark Langford's. I did not lengthen my horizontal. My fuselage is an additional 14" bay longer than the KR-2S. I believe everything else is pretty much standard construction.

@@vr6chrisvw I keep playing with the idea of building this but then I ask myself am I crazy? Was it worth it?
@vr6chrisvw
@vr6chrisvw 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely worth it. I have an airplane that is fun to fly, cheap to operate and it keeps me motivated to learn something. I've already started building another airplane. You have to be prepared for making mistakes and getting frustrated but words cannot explain the feeling when you finish and fly your own creation.
