I used to do these as a kid. Unfortunately I never had the resources to aquire the master tools available in the video. Pretty much anything outside a knife, some glue, sanding paper and popsicle sticks and toothpicks were not affordable. But it was so reassuring seeing that I still used such similar techniques as this builder, even with the limited resources available to me as a young teen. Pretty cool.

This brings back so many happy memories for me. I used to make these over 40 years ago and spent every single penny I had on them. I didn't have any fancy Dan glue, snips, tweezers, files or spray guns but I loved making the Airfix and later the multicoloured Matchbox models. If memory serves they used to cost about 1.90 back in the mid 70s. Some day soon I must try to make one again. Well done, you're a hard act to follow.

@@PaulSvk84 I did a model of the hynd attack helicopter and primed it then I spray painted it with a light sand brown then I dipped a thick loose paint brush into a dark brown acrylic paint and blotched the brush on all over...I wish I had an uploaded picture of it...it looks awesome..Then I clear coated it with future floor shine...CHEERS MATE!

Wonderful to see it come to life. When I was a kid in the early 70s Revell was considered inferior to Airfix. I think at the time you got less parts so it was more basic. It was OK to start on but we all wanted Airfix at the time. Times change. The local shopkeeper who stocked the models use to tell the mums and dads that the Chipmunk was the best to start on. Anyone remember that? We suspected he just had 50 Chipmunk boxes out the back he couldn't shift. Happy days.

Holy Crow! I never knew there was a channel like this. I and my brother spent half of our childhoods building models like this. Unfortunately,we never possessed the tools(specifically the airbrush) used here. We had to rely on self-leveling paint to eradicate the brush strokes. And I must say that it worked for the most part on even the smoothest surfaces. Boy, I'm going to be watching more of these.

When I was a kid, I had an entire ceiling full of hanging model airplanes. That was about 40 years ago and this video makes me want to build some more. I never grew up actually, I’m still that kid that loves airplanes and could totally get into this again. Nothing has changed about these kits, they look the same as they did 40 years ago, what a trip down memory lane this is.

1/48 is big. I came up in coastal Va. in the late '60s as a kid & models ruled then. No malls, hobby shops, and maybe BX's on military bases is where you'd find them. Department stores. Cars where popular, the eclectic had ships to choose from, but I liked airplanes. My first was a B-47, probably from Revell. Monogram being its competition, for the most part back then. But I could never build 'em pretty, pretty as the displays with models one would see back then when aviation was popular. Blowing 'em up with fire crackers was fun, same as shooting at them with a BB gun. But, some did hang from my ceiling, in imaginary dogfights. Over time one moves on to other endeavors, it's been decades now since I've smelled the tube of glue & built a model. With modern aviation video games, the IL-2 series being the one I'm familiar with, I feel as if I'm flying these model airplanes, with all the bells & whistles a video game throws in. One can explore much more in depth and I know the Ju-88 inside out now through these games. The best of both worlds in a way.
