It’s amazing how quickly your colored microfiber towels were pulled into the load the turnover is good on this machine. Certainly better than today’s HE washers.

I read somewhere (don't recall where) that it's rated for 18 lbs. There's only 1 min difference between each step from Light to Heavy soil levels on all cycles, except a revised cycle board (from the original) has 2 mins each step for Whitest Whites and Heavy Duty. Extra Rinse adds 3 to 7 mins depending which cycle. Extend Spin adds 3 mins. Soak adds 16 mins. 75 mins total is the longest cycle I can get on mine, Heavy Duty with all the options.

Awesome washer. Looks like it does a really good job. Roll over, water recirculation and rigorious tumbling to aid items with one another and create a tumbling motion to clean items is a rather impressive action to see with this washer. Wish it was further refined and produced. I would take this over any new H.E. top loader sold today, with the exception if a F&P Aquasmart which is currently my favorite H.E. top loader. Keep up the vids! :)

For anyone who says this machine doesn't clean their clothes. lol It does. If It isn't cleaning you are not using it right. load the items loosely and evenly around the basket wall. Do not throw items directly in over the wash plate. and no not load past the metal rim of the tub. I Always use the Heavy Duty. the Normal cycle seems like more of a permanent press. I set HEAVY DUTY-WARM/WARM-NORMAL SOIL and EXTENDED SPIN. Everything comes out clean. If you Don't believe me I used mine today and It removed the stink from towels that were sitting in water for 6 months. Using the same cycle but heavy soil and how water with a little extra detergent and some baking soda.

Another issue this style had was. Sense it had a water holding tank if the washer sat for more then a few days with the lid closed it would pick up a mold smell.

To me it kind of favors the old Kelvinator agitation, just not as vigorous. Think if it filled up with a little more water the rollover would be better

I wonder if the lack of a whole tub of water may have contributed to the Whirlpool Calypso’s sudden demise. The U.S. Federal government did not yet mandate consumers to use low-water He washers during its time🤷🏾‍♂️.

This is the first one of this type that I have seen; in a way, it reminds me of the old Frigidaire system from the 1960's and 1970's where the agitator went up and down. It was not a bad system, but the machines were rather self-destructive.

I never owned one but I do remember them -- they seem to have a much, much better wash action ("nutation") than the new design of "wash plate" HE washers which don't seem to agitate the clothes as effectively. I know there were problems with the Calypso but did they clean better when they worked? I wonder why they just didn't work to improve the design rather than scrap it for something that seems to not clean as effectively Perhaps I am totally wrong but does anyone know?

Whirlpool ripped this from this from Bendix. Bendix washer were doing the same thing back in the mid 50's to early 60's.

DADoESofTX the amount of water depends on pressure and size of inlets, the people can look into the tub anyways

TheCrayCrayGirl No, the volume of water per fill depends on the size of the load and type of fabric (water absorption) until the level sensor is satisfied. The flow rate from the faucets doesn't matter. Slower flow, longer fill time ... faster flow, shorter time to trigger the level sensor.

But in any way I'd imagine the fill doesn't take more than 30 seconds. Same with the drain.

A fill with a large load of towels for example (dry, first fill can take 2 to 3 mins. Fresh water can come in from four sources: detergent dispenser, fresh water spray (left rear), bleach dispenser flush (but that isn't much), and softener dispenser flush. The water level in the outer tub is always the same per the level sensor, except for the last rinse which is higher due to the softener dispenser flush which is timed *after* the level sensor is satisfied. In any case the water level is always below the wash plate.

Interesting but too impractical as a design. Never really knew what to make of these when I saw them on the floor at Sears. Conventional back and forth agitators are good enough for me.

These machines were known for breaking down too much and destroying clothes so Whirlpool stopped making them after a class action lawsuit.

when it is washing the water coming from the upper left corner of the basket is being recirculated and this water first came into the machine when the detergent dispenser flushes itself and fills up the sump tank

Additionally, I really do dislike these machines that try to wash clothes in what amounts to two tablespoons of water. I wonder what it would do, or how it would act if you manually filled it with water, especially for rinsing. My Whirlpool front loader washes in what amounts to two tablespoons of water, and I manually fill mine for washing and rinsing.. It's the only way, especially for people with very sensitive skin situations.
