You're not doing this project justice. It is much faster than what you're saying. 1, you have to set the speed of the CPU to 1.4 GHz in the UEFI, 2. You should run the optimization script I wrote for this. It's going to fix the SD card usage, lower RAM usage, and lower CPU usage. You can find all of these on the discourse page for this project. On top of that, I feel like you should I have mentioned that these still don't have SD card drivers or GPU drivers which when installed will also be faster. Looking forward to an updated video that'll mention on these things once you've done more research

@excessiveworry38385 жыл бұрын
There are projects that's trying to do that. It's currently possible to run Windows 10 on the Lumia 950 XL for example. It's got a Snapdragon 810 so it's not that fast, but just imagine a phone with a SD835, a chip that's actually currently used in some laptops. Could be fun.
@satwikvarshney78655 жыл бұрын
@@excessiveworry3838 it is still a microsoft product so i guess that getting it first is unsurprising. I was thinking whether there is some barrier from the motherboard's software or something technical which might stop windows 10 to be installed on phone. Maybe the drivers or something similar! Because if you look at it the phone is nothing different from a laptop, a power, a cpu (and gpu), a screen and inputs.
@excessiveworry38385 жыл бұрын
@@satwikvarshney7865 In the case of the 950 XL i think the bootloader was such that you could install Windows 10. I think they had to write a bunch of drivers to make it happen, and that will be the case for any other ARM based phone. Even the Asus Zenfone 2, which has an x86 Intel Atom CPU, there was a lot of things to be done to get Windows running. The main problem is that Windows is closed source so modifying it to run on any kind of hardware is more difficult than Linux or BSD.

3:44, You've made a fatal mistake there. If you see the processor speed, it's at 0.60 Ghz. Since Windows cannot fully handle the microprocessor, you have to set the maximum CPU clock on the BIOS. My 2 cents. Either way, even with that solved, the 1 GB RAM causes Mem Swapping, and the Mem swapping destroys the performance because of microSD extreme low performance. Therefore, you need SATA port to add a proper albeit small SSD; and/or increase the RAM to avoid swapping. I'd love to try this in a high performance SBC. If you just want the easy way, go for a LattePanda and that's it

Not on the Raspberry Pi. The Pi has 4 USB 2.0 ports and you won't get a higher speed than 30-40 MB/s or so on USB 2.0
@patdbean5 жыл бұрын
@@excessiveworry3838 not even the 3 B+ isn't that faster, or is that just the network?
@excessiveworry38385 жыл бұрын
@@patdbean Well it's a couple of things. Firstly the Pi is not very powerful, secondly the USB 2.0 standard only (theoretically) supports transfer speeds up to 60MB/s while USB 3.0 (again theoretically) supports transfer speeds of up to 640MB/s. A normal hard drive has a transfer speed of around 100-150MB/s and many consider even them slow an go for a smaller but faster SSD. Now consider that any SSD/HDD/thumb drive, no matter how fast, will never transfer data faster than 60MB/s when hooked up through a USB 2.0 port. Another problem is that even high-end SD cards that are rated at 95MB/s are also bottlenecked by the speed of the Pi's SD card reader and probably won't go beyond 20MB/s And yes that goes for the B+ too. The USB 2.0 limit is present on that too.

W10 on ARM may be interesting but ultimately it is a waste of time. People don't buy computers to run operating system, they buy them to run applications. As most of the useful applications are tied to x86 then it would be a gross disappointment to the users, as Windows RT showed. Sure, it will run UWPs but that was intended to be for phone apps that could also run on desktops, and developers ignored it in droves. There was a version of Office for RT but this had many pieces missing so was mainly useless.

The problem with running full Windows 10 on the Raspberry Pi with an SD card is that SD cards generally have a lower number of read-write cycles compared to traditional hard drives and SSDs. And because the Pi only has 1GB of ram, Windows is constantly going to be moving some processes to the pagefile (C:\pagefile.sys) which will quickly go through the limited number of read-write cycles on the Pi fairly quickly, and plus SD cards are far slower than hard drives and SSDs, and hence running it from an SD card will lead to a short and miserable Windows 10 experience. If you can install it to a hard drive or SSD, the experience will be FAR better. And although the new Pi4 has upto 4GB of ram, for now, it can only run with a gig of ram, atleast in the videos I have seen.

Also, base *Raspberry Pi* doesn’t really have a proper GPU, so Windows is forced to render everything using the CPU, which is painfully slow. You can see that on *Task Manager’s Performance* tab, which doesn’t have a GPU section because there isn’t a GPU to measure the performance of.

I trying to figure out a way to run my point of sale stations on pi's. I have 6 pos's in my store and we only run the pos software. My admin is currently working on using pi's to run our backups and security system.
