Your use of the term “things I just don’t reach for”, is so inspiring. I’ve been struggling with decluttering my wardrobe, and watching a lot of KZbin videos on the subject. Recently I went thrifting with a friend and brought home some things to update my clothes. Now, I’ve been trying to streamline my collection, but I LIKE everything! “Things I just don’t reach for”, is the key. I think I will have more success with those words in mind. Thank you.

I heard another KZbinr say they wash everything inside out which I thought was interesting. I usually just do it for the obvious stuff with print on the front or sparkles or magic sequins, but then started reading the labels on everything just for fun and most stuff DOES say to wash inside out. Not sure how I never noticed it before 🤯

I tend to declutter my wardrobe in the spring and early part of summer. Then I have a garage sale! My garage is set up just like a store with hanging areas and departments…I’ve done this almost yearly for the last 15 years. Always satisfying and the bonus of a little extra cash as I don’t earn a salary during the summer months!

Loved the vid, Mia! Thanks so much for going through your reasons for discarding/re-homing each item. I always find it fascinating when, on the rare occasion, people explain their reasoning. It's SUCH an important part of the decluttering/minimalism process/journey, after all. Thanks!!

I try to get rid of as much as possible every time I move, so it’s less to move. But now that I’m planted… I need to consciously start going through things! “Things I don’t find myself reaching for” is brilliant. Thank you for this! Ps. Thrifting is the best :)

Look for some good quality neutrals at the Thrift store. I love merino, cotton, linen and cashmere...natural fibres. They don't get that scratchy feeling of arcylic.

I was REALLY wanting some cashmere. I may need to check another thrift store to see if I can snag some up. Some of the items I got feel similar but they don't have the materials listed on the tag.

@@MiaDanielle I love cashmere too!! I shop on Poshmark for cashmere, a little more expensive than the thrift store but I’m not then searching for months. But at the thrift I go to the men’s section for big-around-the-house cashmere pullovers.

I look forward to when I can declutter my closet. I'm in the baby making stage and so I have a lot of my clothes that financially make more sense to vacuum seal for a year, then pull them out when I can fit them again, and when I can pregnant again rotate again, on top of seasonal rotation. I have fun watching these, still!

I still get a bit confused about what to keep or buy Bcuz I just still don’t go out much or do so much anymore. I guess when I finally need to go out, I think more about what my clothes look like on me or what would be more practical for me when I have to go from home body to a more public person. Lol. I agree tho. I’m a huge fan of “versatile” lounge wear. I just see it more like oh, the folks out there won’t have a clue that I slept in that also last night. 😅😅 So recently I went for some comfy yoga pants and semi athletic wear Bcuz I can lay around at home and clean house and then do errands without having to change clothes just to “go out.” (Of course a special “occasion” is diff but seems like I have so few of those anymore for ages anyways). Esp in winter tho. Seems like the jammies and such are just so much warmer and I get to where I don’t want to put on jeans and such mostly Bcuz my legs would get too cold and I’m sitting there like right? “Cute” is just overrated sometimes. I’d much prefer comfy and “cute enough.” Lol.

That's exactly why I was focusing on functional loungewear this time around!

@@MiaDanielle Ha ha. Same. I guess trying to find my fine line with not being judged at the store for not bothering to change out of my jammies to pick up the milk or whatever. 😅😅 Sorta like eh. Idc but maybe I only care just a smidge to buy a black pair of yoga pants and not go out in my plaid obvious jammies..tho imo they’re just as cute. 😂😂 Once I ran over to get gas in my car in my cute fleece robe. (Animal print with fake sheepskin lining-sooo warm and cozy ha ha). People kept complimenting me on my “coat.” 🤣🤣🤣 I think it’s funny tho. Like y’all can freeze out here if ya want to but I’m staying warm and cozy. Lol. I’m def thinking I can get by out there in that robe now. Double as a “coat.” Lmao.

I just love your videos, I'm still binge watching to catch up. You have a unique style that I'm very drawn to. You explain things in a different way that just makes so much sense. Suggestion, if I may; treat yourself to some matching hangers. I did this a few years ago and got rid of all the mismatched plastic ones. I really like the velour flat hangers, clothes stay on them better, they take up less room and looks nice to have them all match. I've seen them even at the Dollar Tree, a pkg of 4 for $1.00, come in a few different colors. I purchased mine at Walmart, didn't know DT sold them till later. TY

I had the exact same problem with my soft clothing eventually turning rough and scratchy... and discovered that it was because they were made from mostly polyester or some other synthetic material. So once I decided to get rid of all the clothes in my closet that were made from polyester and other synthetic materials, and start only buying and wearing clothing made from natural fibers (cotton, linen, silk and cashmere), I no longer have the problem of my clothes ending up feeling scratchy and uncomfortable. So when you do go thrifting, try really looking at the labels to see what materials things are made of. A lot of clothing manufacturers will use a lot of polyester and synthetic materials to make their clothes because it is very cheap, and usually don't hold up very well or last very long before it looks and feels horrible. So when I go thrift shopping, I'm very careful to read the label of any garment that I'm considering bringing home... and if it's not 100% some kind of natural fiber, it doesn't come home with me. That's just my tips for thrift shopping. 😊

I just did my wardrobe not even 1/2 hour ago… I put away spring summer into a spare closet, and mixed and matched different outfits for the coming season. I bought a few tops yesterday, and just made a donation pile of what I don’t want or use anymore. I always do one in one out method. I also like a lot of room in my closet even though it’s a walk in closet, I rather store the other seasons in a spare closet. When I thrift shop, I have learned to read the labels, so many times I would like something, purchase it, and then it might need to be hand washed etc. Enjoyed your video so much, looking forward to the thrifting video 😀

You might try washing your clothes a few times without anything or with vinegar. Some of the scratchiness comes from old detergent that has clung to the fibers.... My clothes are softer now that I let the water do the work even though I hang dry everything.... only exceptions I have found are heavy jeans and towels.

Your clothing comments were very relatable. I highly recommend you check out Carol Tuttle’s dressing your truth. It’s a book, but she has videos on KZbin as well. You basically find your “type” and there are certain colors and fabrics that are more flattering based on that. Anyway, it’s been a game changer for me when I go shopping. I have a guide on what I know will flatter me or not, despite whether I think something is cute or not.

I only declutter my closet when I know that I'm not wearing a lot of the pieces every time I go out to run an errand or have breakfast with my family. The last time I did that was in August and September. I do however, put clothes away that do not fit a certain season (for example putting away clothing that is more appropriate to wear in the warmer months and cold weather clothing during the warmer months)

I don't think anyone needs more clothes than what can fit in a hamper (I think most hampers hold 3 loads of clothes) one load of shirts, one load of pants and one load for underclothes and pajamas... I usually have 2 loads of laundry... The only time this changes is in the winter because my clothes are bulky I need and extra laundry basket and I have 3 loads of laundry. I have never understood why people have more clothes than they are willing to wash.
