Taylor Jakes An estimated 2 million people are incarcerated each year in the U.S. There are 133,000 private (for profit) prisons in the U.S. Considering that we incarcerate people for crimes that many other countries in the western world do not. And that those countries' reformation rates are much higher than ours, it says something about our motives for incarceration. Mainly $$$. Our justice system has many outdated and ineffective operating methods, the most prominent being mandatory minimum sentencing. All of these tactics lead to a system that encourages incarceration and an industry to accommodate it. The private prison industrial complex. Lots of $$$ to be made locking people up. Do some in depth research into this issue, you might be surprised at what you find.

lee grevillea Drumpf is the original "Trump" surname. Taken from snopes.com : "Fred Trump, born Friedrich Drumpf, in Kallstadt, Germany, in 1869, had an estate worth $500,000 in today’s dollars when he died in Queens on May 30, 1918, at age 49." So this family literally changed their surname to a word that means (according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary) : to play a trump on (a card or trick) ; derived from the14th century.

I would not say this is a "close" second. It is still REALLY bad, but the permanent damage done by separation is SIGNIFICANTLY worse. There are studies on this.
@TheYasmineFlower
@TheYasmineFlower 6 жыл бұрын
That won't matter to the administration, though. They are catering to the evangelical base, who are "orphan saving" crazy. And with international adoptions closing down one country at a time, they will manufacture orphans in any other way they can. Up to 80 babies and possibly toddlers were already taken to Michigan and put into the custody of the Bethany Adoption Agency. Some I hear were taken to NY as well. (Both closed records states, aka the children thus trafficked will never get their real birth certificates back) The evangelical churches eager to get those children for adoption are really wealthy and lobby the US government for their causes any chance they get. That's really wealthy, well-connected friends that Trump sure can use these days...
@thesoundsmith
@thesoundsmith 6 жыл бұрын
@TheYasmineFlower: If you have any documentation of these claims, especially about Bethany Adoptions, this is important. Might be a good idea to send some info to the various 'News Comedy Shows' that have been forced (by the actions of what used to be our own government) to replace Johnny Carson. Ya know, Trevor Noah, Sam, Seth Meyers and of course Colbert and John Oliver. Any one of them has the resources to dig into the story and let the world know the depths of evil pseudo-Christian churches are doing. And you KNOW this will never appear on the "normal" media sources until there already is a public outcry. Just like these kids.
@jonnyaxelsson9940

Going from bad to horrible back to bad isn't really an improvement, otherwise not crucifying children anymore would be the sign of great humanitarian spirits. We have grown accustomed to regular bad, like before Trump, or immigration to other countries. Australia has their Nauru, in Europe refugees and migrants drown in the Mediterranean. The Trump administration seems to be testing out how bad they can make it, and still get away with it. Separating children from their parents was a step too far, so let's try to go back one step.
@Sam_on_YouTube
@Sam_on_YouTube 6 жыл бұрын
Jonny Axelsson Just as Sam Bee overstated it by saying the new executive order is close to as bad as the separation, you have understated it by implying things are back to just as bad as they were before the new policy. They are not. Trump's policy of mass-incarceration of families seeking assylum for the misdemeanor of crossing the border at the wrong location while at the same time blocking entrance at the propper crossings is what sparked this crisis and that hasn't changed. That started in April. The change is that the kids will be kept with the parents (hopefully) which is a very big improvement, even if they end up in adult jail cells, because of the psychological studies on separation and love. But it is still WAY worse than processing the assylum claims without detention, as we have historically done.

It's been a while since I have said this comment, but I feel it's time to say it again: People who are unaware/misled on the subject of immigration/refugees ask "Why don't immigrants come here legally or stay here if they know they are illegal?," "If they are here why don't they apply for citizenship to stay?," "Why should we keep them here if they are taking jobs away from Americans?," and "Why should we care about immigrants/refugees if they don't benefit the country/me personally?" Well I have a few answers/explanations: Many Americans don't realize how hard applying for/earning legal status takes. Much like achieving refugee status/vetting to seek asylum (which can take up to 2 years), getting legal immigration status can take 1-4 years no matter where you come from. If you have a relative who is an American/someone sponsoring you then you can save time, but most immigrants/refugees don't. Whether you are an immigrant, refugee, or asylum seeker, no one from any country can get on a plane and become a citizen overnight regardless of what conservatives/isolationists claim. According to the Constitution, only citizens can vote in our elections (not immigrants/refugees), and if you vote illegally you go to jail. And I found that the best case scenario for someone to legally earn U.S. citizenship takes at the minimum 6 years (seriously, try planning a family vacation 6 years in advance and hope that no one dies/is born or something affects your plans). If someone wants to come to the U.S. legally for work/an education and they are willing to put in the time (several years)/money (tens of thousands of dollars) to do so we have no right to deport them (regardless of their race, religion, origins, or native language) since this is the idea of the American dream. Despite President Trump's travel bans (which have all failed in the courts), it's unconstitutional to ban people based on national origin without valid reasons. When people are trying to escape civil war, crimes, or poverty and seek shelter in the U.S. sometimes their only option is to take the risk and come illegally then seek citizenship once they are here. Now I will admit that anyone coming into the country illegally is committing a crime, but if we made it easier/faster to come in legally then we would have fewer illegal immigrants in America. And studies have shown that immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers commit fewer crimes as a % of their population than native-born citizens (because they know they would receive harsher sentences/be deported if convicted). By law, businesses/corporations aren't supposed to hire illegal immigrants (and sometimes refugees/asylum seekers) and instead report them to be deported, but they often don't. They hire illegal immigrants/refugees, because they can be paid less than the U.S. minimum wage/not be guaranteed benefits. That said, illegal immigrants/refugees who have jobs do pay taxes which benefits our economy, but unless they become legal citizens, most never receive government-funded benefits like social security, food stamps, and Medicare/Medicaid (and those who do have to live/work in the U.S. for 5 years 1st). Whenever someone claims illegal immigrants are taking away jobs from Americans, this is only part right. Many don't have the equivalent of a high school education so they often take jobs as farmers, construction workers, maids, gardeners, janitors, and restaurant workers, which are jobs many Americans don't typically want. And many manufacturing/coal mining jobs were lost due to automation/outsourcing, while legal immigrants tend to have college educations/the capability to start business and create jobs in the U.S. Finally, many people who come here illegally or seek refugee/asylum status don't tend to stay for more than a few years (some do but not the majority), and they work to earn money to send back to their families or seek safe heaven until they can return home. When they do get a job, they are jobs that many of us don't want, but if a boss hired an illegal immigrant/refugee over an American, why aren't you mad at the person who didn't hire you because you would be paid more? President Trump's border wall (as The Young Turks have pointed out) won't keep immigrants/refugees out, and make keeping them in easier. Nowadays the fastest growing groups of immigrants are Latin Americans (the 7 countries south of Mexico) and East Asians (Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos, and Indians), while more Mexican immigrants are returning home in recent years. And without cheap immigrant/overseas labor, the prices of everyday goods would go up since they will cost more to make here by American workers. Overall we do have an illegal immigration/refugee problem, but there are solutions we can take to solve the problem asides from deporting them all. And despite the negative rhetoric by some, America benefits more from immigrants/refugees than we are hurt by them. If you read all of this, thank you and share your thoughts/opinions, and this comment (believe it or not) is a shortened version of a short argumentative essay I wrote for a college class, so if you want me to send you the full version let me know.

Thank you, this is the argument I have been making for a while now. Also, that we ALL came from somewhere else, and these restricted immigration rules were not in place when their great-great-great grandfather came to the US. I think too many forget their roots and do not know the struggles and prejudices their families faced in the past. They just find it easier to fling the same hatred at others that was once flung at their own families in the past. So shameful, so ignorant.

Actually, this problem's been going on for 72 years. It started June 14, 1946 when an NYC nurse ignored the little voice telling her to drop that baby on the floor a third time.

I thought so at first but then I realized it was probably easier to minimize a talking point so it would go away quickly and not be weaponized against her. I think the smile on her face while drinking the tea at the C word reference shows that.

It's a shame that we have to think, "well it's a start". Was just on the Vox video that features audio from one place where children are being detained. Their cries, fearful statements, and pleading are apparently propaganda to some. The comments supporting the policy were mostly along the lines of "this is normal for American criminals" and "don't break the law in the first place", regardless of the fact that people across the political spectrum found this abhorrent. So many commenters focused on that common ground, even mine, just begging for people to concede on this one thing. I really hope they see the value in the points made here about indefinite detention and not housing families like this in jail and considering that the conditions we have for asylum or legal immigration are often unfair.
