Kimblee values people who stay true to themselves and hates hypocrisy. So he likely meant what he said, Winry's parents stuck to their oath of helping people to the extend it got them killed. He respects that. He also probably felt bad on some level that he failed in his duties to kill Scar. If he had, they'd still be alive. Their death is his failure. He's a psychotic mess but he has values.

I doubt he feels bad about their death, you are spot on that Kimblee respects those whom hold true to their word so without doubt he respects them but from what I know his mission wasn't to aid or rescue them but to kill them.

Yes but no. The anime omitted the scene, but Kimblee was the one who found Winry's parents because the military sent him to kill them. So they were going to die no matter what. However, you are spot on about him respecting their resolve.

Kimblee is twisted, but he does have a set of values he follows. He despises hypocrisy, such as his discussion on the meaning of war with hawkeye and mustang. He questions why they are second guessing their actions as if they didn't sign up for it by joining the military. Kimblee respects people who stick to their beliefs and follow through with them to the end. He genuinly did respect the Rockbells because they stuck to their beliefs even in trying times and even when it cost them their lives. When kimblee is informing Ed of his 'duties' he doesn't outright dismiss Ed's point of view, but more so tests him to see if Ed will actually follow his values or toss them aside out of convenience.

Olivia is also similar. He has resentment towards her brother and calls him weak for quitting at Ishval. To her, he either should've fight against the military (just like the Freezing Alchemist did) or should've continued his duty. Yet he chose none, did nothing and got expelled from the war zone. Sticking to your values and putting them in action is what's important at the end of the day. Alex Armstrong also voiced this at the previous episodes.

Kimblee hates hypocrisy, he truly meant what he said. I love this man as a villain, he's mostly honest in his interactions.

There are some hints at Pride's identity earlier on, like when Bradley tells Roy that Selim will "never work as a point of weakness in his life", and when Selim shows up at the library before the Brothers head north (now we know he was digging for info on what they were up to and why they were going there)

Kimblee just sipping coffee while Ed freaks out over Winry is such an amazing and funny scene 😅 Also Kimblee means what he said to Winry imo. Although it was his actions that caused their deaths, he probably felt partially responsible for not killing absolutely everyone

I don't think he feels any guilt over their deaths, but Im certain that he really has respect for them. He basically respects anyone who is willing to sacrifice their lives for their principals, but he also has no issues killing anyone because he is a psychopath.

Kimblee wasn't completely lying to Winry, he just left out the little detail that he was actually being sent to *kill* Winry's parents himself on orders from the military as a result of them continuing to treat Ishvalan rebels. In the manga we see that Kimblee and his men arrive just after Scar has already killed them and they indeed are holding a photo of Winry.

Re: Selim - It's a shame you seemed to have missed what his mother said at 06:58, "He's the *pride* of my life", it was going to be revealed in the next scene anyway, but it would have been interesting to see your reaction. Re: How the stone is made, they know how it's made (human life & the transmutation circle from the 5th lab), that was in Dr Marco's research notes & why they were so upset when they found out.

Even though he is persisting the homunculi, it is important to keep in mind that Kimblee is neutral. And as he said, the only reason he is aiding them is because they have given him the freedom to act as he likes. Kimblee does not agree or disagree with the ideology of the homunculi, nor does he care about conventional standards of right and wrong. Like it or not, he is objectively correct when he points out that history decides who is right and who is wrong. In statistically speaking, the world itself has been preferring the side of the homunculi.

I wonder if you can still make a philosopher's stone using people who are incurably sick? Like, ok, nobody wants to kill 1000 people… but I give it good odds that you can find "life force" donors similarly to organ donors. If my understanding is right, you could turn that around to heal up to 1000 people (life for life is equivalent exchange).
