Also people always say its a terrible day for rain is a double pun. One to cover the tears, but also because Mustang’s powers are useless in the rain, so its a metaphor that when it mattered the most (his best friend’s life) he was useless and too late. Which to me adds so much heartbreak to the line.

What makes this so sad is that Hughes was the life of the party. He brought the smile when there wasn’t one, but when things got serious, so did he. More than anything he loved his family. We could all learn a thing or two about the example of Hughes.

What gets me every time is the one line from the little girl and it’s acted absolutely flawlessly. “Mommy, why are they putting all that dirt on daddy?” Then her begging them to stop is devastating. This show can hit you right in the feels.

10:00 You have no idea, in the older anime we had spent 25 episodes with Hughes not 10 when he dies. And Ed and Al were there the day Alicia was born. Oh and Alicia and Ed share a birthday. Not to mention that after Ed speaks about Hughes in the train thy pass a platform and Ed sees an apparition of Hughes standing on that platform and waving goodbye. And behind it all the Ishval theme is playing (they don't use it at all in the newer anime but it's the best track of the old show). 14:15 Mustang resents Bradley for what happened in Ishval. He's got some serious guilt over what happened and the only preson more to Blame than he himself is the people who ordered the state alchemists in there in the first place.

I feel like this series is brilliant simply on the aspect of Huges alone. At first glance, people always see him as creepy, shady, and potentially plotting something due to how he acts, but it doesn't take long for people to see that he's just actually a very genuine person. It turns the trope on its head a bit of the overtly helpful guy turning out to be a traitor in some way, which in itself plays on how we tend to suspect people who are genuinely nice of being shady. And then, right as you start to feel comfortable in liking the guy as just a really great dude, wham.

What really hurts is that if you originally read the manga, and watched the original Fullmetal alchemist, and then watched Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood. You had to see Hughes get killed three times. And it still hurts to see it happen to this day. This show has the power to make you feel the extremes of emotion and that’s why it’s my favorite anime.

Speaking of cosplay, I saw a really well done Barry at Otakon a few years ago, The person who did it even had the glowing eyes that the souls in the armor have. The armor itself was pretty much perfect, and he even had a (fake) cleaver too.

Also the foreshadowing for Hughes.. what happens to him.. is so strong.. yet we don't see it coming. Hughes: "come see me next time you're in central!" *sad music plays over him saying this and walking away* *Hughes being nice and inviting Winry to stay every time* And him just being too smart. And honestly a lot more. :( still really sad

So I heard that when this happened in the manga the creators staff almost revolted they were so upset about Hughes and it really is one of the best instances of why we can't have nice things in anime (because they'll be ruthlessly killed off)

Mustang’s memory of the war was that he knew the genocide they were committing was useless ane cruel. He was aware they were shedding blood inhumanly and his solution was to continue the work to try to be on the top. Like he lost all trust in the military and the eyepatch man during the war and decided to go after him. And the hatred and uncertainty grew this ep after his best friend died.

A few episodes ago, I likened FMA:B to an emotional roller coaster. Nina was the first real bump, and Maes Hughes is the next. He's a prime example of a character being too smart for their own good. He figured out a major piece of the puzzle that makes up the story, and only 10 episodes in. And he did it by looking at information that's in plain sight. It was something so important, it got him killed quickly and sloppily to cover it up. This series is brimming with intelligent characters, but there are always consequences. Whenever I rewatch these early episodes, it's _really_ interesting how much foreshadowing there is. You're not going to understand it until much later. All in due time...

Like ,,i love your videos, i like anime. Its just too painful to watch how sadly they did these scenes compared to 2003. Maybe its close to the manga, i havent read it. Brotherhood just moves way too fast through the early chapters. It's like the best way to experience the show is to watch the original up to around Hughes's death/when the story starts deviating, and only then switch to Brotherhood.

You two are probably going to have a cry across 1/5th of the episodes of Brotherhood. Most of the crying is concentrated towards the beginning and end of the series. Just... always keep your tissues on hand with Appa and Pabu close by for cuddle support.
