Fun fact: Theophrastus Bombastus Von Hohenheim is a real historical alchemist. This show’s full of references to real-life alchemical philosophy, it’s one of my favorite parts of the lore.

Spoiler. . . . . . . Side note, Celsus was a Greek philosopher. Para can mean many things. Against or alongside. A fitting name for an alchemist who is both a blood brother and yet an opponent. As above, so below. Equal yet opposite. They lived in the same world, they pass on in the same world. Parallel yet different.

Now that I’m looking at it again this reminds me that someone said in a comment that Ed and Al are the last Xerxians left in the world. They’re the only 2 characters that have blonde hair and golden eyes
@subarusama5673
@subarusama5673 2 жыл бұрын
Well, they are not pure Xerxians to be precise, but Hohenheim's genes seem to be prevalent, so it's not that big of a deal. And Edward is really similar to his father in looks, huh?

Also people get confused about « perfected » and « incomplete » stones , but as they sortof explained in the earlier episodes , there are no such things . Only philosopher’s stones with varying amounts of VALUE stored in them . Equivalent exchange dictates that you need to trade things of equal value . When doing regular alchemy , you do that by conserving mass-energy etc. When using a stone , you get that value straight out of the stones’ reserves , hence why it might appear like there’s no equivalent exchange when you create something out of thin air , when in reality you’re actually respecting equivalent exchange by sacrificing some of the value in that stone .

@@owenhalloran3111 well iirc immortality directly means undying or never decaying as we see with Mr.Ho he doesn't decay, and same with the homunculi, so if you go by that they are "immortal".

Humans have 23 PAIRS of chromosomes. So Slave 23 was still beholden to his humanity. So he bears the name of a power hoisted on him by the thing that stole his humanity. So, Ed and Al spending the entire series searching for the philosopher's stone but hating their father, yet he is the object which they seek and idealize...The author is a genius.

The "he" Hohenheim was referring to when talking about giving blood was his slave master, his slave master was the one who actually created Homunculus, he just used Hohenheim's blood to do so, probably in case it failed.

“Theophrastus” literally means “One who speaks for God”. If you pair Hohenheim with Father for religious imagery, they’re meant to depict the God/Satan rivalry, the latter being famous for committing the first sin-pride-by trying to usurp God and impersonate him. “Father” in FMA goes by this name to allude to Satan’s mimicry of God, the true Father (and of course, Hohenheim IS the actual father figure in the anime). Hohenheim is further connected to God by his performing of miracles (like with Izumi), just like Jesus does in Christian history. If you keep this in mind while watching the show’s ending (particularly episode 63), things get really cool.

Keep in mind that Hohenheim was probably in his early to mid 20s when they started digging the tunnel, and was visibly aged, probably at least in his mid 40s when it was finally complete and everything went down. It took *that* long to dig the circle out.

Gluttony ALMOST died but Father reabsorbed him before he passed away, and was shown to be in the process of rebirthing him later. So he’s not gone yet. I’m putting that out there, because I know neither of you remember that after credits scene

Hohenheim actually reveals something really startling, that things taken by Truth "can't be brought back", as in they can't just be recreated with alchemy. This means that even if Ed and Al had tried using a Philosopher's Stone to get their bodies back by just recreating them, it wouldn't have worked.
@Metal-Spark
@Metal-Spark 2 жыл бұрын
That's really interesting, I never picked up on that before - adds some nice depth to the Truth, that it kind of operates on its own rules. Although... it does raise a question that I don't really want to ask because of spoilers. Big spoilers below, though I'll still try to be as vague as possible: . Someone is healed in the last episode using a stone, to recover something the truth took. Either I'm missing something or that's a bit of an inconsistency in the writing?

@@Metal-Spark SPOILER TALK: What I think is that, while you can't use the Stone to just regen your missing parts, you *can* open the gate and offer the Stone as payment in order to get your parts back, so that's probably what they did

The "Crest of Blood" is what Kimblee was trying to get Ed to do a few episodes earlier, when he offered him a Philosopher's Stone in exchange for killing everybody at Briggs and "soaking the land with their blood". The nationwide transmutation circle needs blood to be shed at many specific points, and they established when they met in the tunnel with Olivier a few episodes ago that Briggs is the last Crest that needs to be carved. Basically, the King of Xerxes used those villages to carve the Crests, though as Xerxes was a much smaller nation it didn't require as many.
