I've seen comments on this scene about how she cracked the case for him, and while she was wonderful and a tremendous help it's clear from the movie Vinny cracks the case. That's why he knows to ask her the question with that specific phrasing while showing her the exact picture that proves it. That's why he got the officer to check for vehicles/arrests in nearby counties matching the other vehicle. The point the movie is making isn't that she had to crack the case for him, the point is that he needed her help! And he definitely needed her help because he can't testify as a the defense attorney. Even better, he didn't give her the answer he already had because not only did he want her reaction to be authentic, but he trusted in her to spot it and play off his questions to wow and dazzle the jury. Which she of course did. In short, he finally trusted her to help with the case and was immediately rewarded for doing so. PS - The end scene for this movie is hilarious and wonderful. Vinny: "I wanted to win my first case without any help" Lisa: "This could be a sign of things to come; you win your cases - but with "someone else's help". Right? You win case after case and then afterwards you have to go up to someone and say...."thank you". Oh my god - what a F'ing nightmare! Vinny: "I won my first case. You know what this means?" Lisa: "You think I'm going to marry you?" Vinny: "You're not going to marry me now?" Lisa: "No way! You can't win a case by yourself. You're F'ing useless!" (Reading this makes me realize how much their body language, tone of voice, etc.. sell the coy and playful nature of their relationship!)

I love that this sequence may just have won Marisa Tomei an Oscar. Not only is the character on fire throughout, but the actor is too. She absolutely steals this movie out from underneath everyone, well done Joe Pesci for fighting to cast her despite the fact she was nominated for a Razzle for her previous (first movie), Oscar starring Sylvester Stallone. The fact that Herman Munster is the Judge, Perry White from 1990s Lois and Clark is the prosecutor and the Karate Kid is a defendant and must all have known a star was being born right in-front of them just adds to the entertainment value for me. I've always said this was the best Oscar winning role by a character that technically was needed. Vinny, who was not a mechanic, figured it all out after looking at the photo for a few seconds. He could have recalled the the prosecution's expert witness and presented each of the questions to him. That said, this scene on the stand was better than Nicholson's in "A Few Good Men." The Academy agrees.

@adeleennis225521 күн бұрын
@@Snowman-556The reason she is better is because her knowledge base is unexpected. Nicholson’s performance kind of was expected because he played such a condescending character. Cruise even says he knows what the general wants to say. We didn’t know Mona Lisa Vito had that much mechanical knowledge as to be considered an expert. The sink scene gave us a clue that she understood some basic mechanics, but not that she would know the ignition timing and model years of different engine systems, plus the wheel bases, size, weight, length, and paint colors of multiple older model cars. Yes, Nicholson’s scene was iconic, but it’s Mona Lisa Vito’s that I never get tired of watching.
