I remember the first time I saw this, I freaked out because I thought without alchemy, Ed would be stranded at the Gate. Although now I realize Truth was so impressed he said "take everything you want", so I guess that was the free pass to leave. But as he was never so generous before, I could see him saying Ed paid just enough to get Al back, but not enough for Ed to leave. And then Al would spend a whole season (with May) trying to get Ed out.

You were right about that part. Ed could only leave because he can pass through Al's gate. When they first conducted the human transmutation circle, Al and Ed's blood were mixed together. If anyone else would try the same thing they would have no gate to leave.

The clever part about the dialogue is that Truth said "the _back door_ is over that way, Edward Elric". It was so casual, it really never made me question _why_ Al's door was there. I absolutely love the subtlety in that.

​@WolfXGamerful the clues are always there. Like how Ed has been slowing his growth to maintain Al's body on the other side and when Al shutting down one Ed was at death's door after being impaled by the steel beam.

AHHHH THIS WAS AWESOME, from greed, to Ed and Al sacrifice, hohenheim finally being at peace. This was just awesome. Just thought of this but I'm pretty sure Al can use alchemy, but can Ed somehow use alchemy form xing, like what may was using just not as powerful?

ほんとにきれいに文句ない終わり方したのってハガレンくらいだと思う 感情描写にほんとに引き込まれたし、なんて言ったらいいか道徳とか生きざまとか信念とか敵味方に人間臭いものがあって感情を揺さぶられるいいアニメでした。

I liked the originals Alchemist ending where Ed is sent to another era and Al tries to search for a way to find him. But they both lost their alchemy

元の日本語じゃ「親父の前に『クソ』がついてたけどな」と「ほんとに俺ってしょうがねえなぁ」と別の文章なところ、この英語字幕は「親父の前に『good for nothing(しょうがねえ)』がついてそうだったけどな」と「ほんとに俺って『good for nothing』だなぁ」って、エドの気持ちと一緒に『しょうがねえ自分』を嚙み締める文脈が一つ増してて、味わいが深い良い訳だなぁ。
