Thank you for that. It is one of the lesser-appreciated aspects of the scene. I mean, all credit to Travis, but all he realistically has to do is grunt. Portrays the anger very well, but compare that to the throat-destroying screams and it's not even close. Envy has to sound like an immortal living through its own cremation. Burning to death is literally the most painful way to die and this creature is being burned as violently as possible, multiple times over, feeling every ounce of that unspeakable agony, and doesn't even get the mercy of death after being subjected to what could reasonably be considered the most painful death that can be shown outside of an actual horror film. Hell, most likely more painful than anything in horror films, if not for how short-lived it is. And the VA has to capture that level of unimaginable pain, and she absolutely does.

I love how during a lot of the early part of the series you hear people say how strong Mustang is, but he's usually played off as kind of a slacker joke. Hell, the first time you see him use alchemy he nearly dies because he forgot his gloves got wet and Hawkeye saves him. It's not really until the Lust fight and then here where you're like "damn, this guy fucks."

A part of that is the trauma from Ishval. His shame and regret are a driving force in his life, seeking power and rank not out of a desire to rule and dominate, but out of a desire to prevent another Ishval. Because of this, he cannot tap into his power except out of extreme necessity, because of what it represents to him: him at his very worst. So, as badass as this moment is, this is a fall from grace for the Colonel. Which makes it all the more bittersweet when Hawkeye, a fellow veteran who also bares the trauma and shame of participation in Ishval, pulls him out of his rage.

Everyone's talking about how this is to avenge Huges, but remember: Envy CAUSED the Ishvalen War. Envy is DIRECTLY responsible for the war that turned Mustang into the man he is today. Roy played a massive role in that war, and he wanted to overthrow the government because of that war. He isn't just avenging Hugh- he's trying to avenge those that he killed.

We get VERY few showings of why Flame Alchemy is considered to be so "taboo" that its very origins have been forcibly erased from all but Mustang, his mentor, and Riza's knowledge. We hear stories of how brutally inhuman it was during the war in Ishval, and we see it barely manage to take down Lust, whom he mostly killed because he completely took her by surprise with a lighter. But here we see it in full force, not being held back, and it so completely ANNIHILATES what is by all means a borderline demigod to such an extent you feel outright pity for it.

One of the most interestingly horrifying parts about his ability are one hand is just a general explosion of fire and heat, and the other is concentrated and he decided what he wants to blow up with precision. When Roy killed Lust, he was able to do so in about nine "snaps" (he didnt have his gloves at the time, but I'm pretty sure it was the same output, if not less so due to his injuries at the time). Here against Envy he snaps 22 times. Here Roy definitely believes that if it's worth killing its worth overkilling, and few things are worth that more than the one who killed Hughes. (Edit- holy crap, near 2k likes for this! Thats crazy, but again, we all liked Hughes and had some twisted satisfaction as Envy burned)

Envy was such a fucking weasel throughout this entire series. He commits atrocity after atrocity and every single time he squares up with one of the protagonist we're foaming at the mouth hoping in anticipation that someone, ANYONE, will make him pay for what he's done. Time and time again he slips away... And then he just sort of falls in Roy (legal middle name Mother Fucking) Mustang's lap and is so cocksure in his abilities that not only does he start mouthing off to one of the most powerful characters in the series but CONFESSES TO MURDERING HIS BEST FRIEND WITH THE FORM OF HIS WIFE and explains in no uncertain terms how he got off on it. And then the "fight" starts and we see the realization dawn on him that he's outmatched. Poorly. The fear and desperation as he tries every dirty trick in the book just to have another life painfully burned out of him. This fight gave us all a taste of some very well deserved vengeance.

A lot of dubs are viciously overacted, have casting decisions that make no sense, or they just speak in a way that no living human would ever speak. Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood absolutely nailed just about every single important moment and even improved upon some of them as well.
