A little tip for anyone trimming their own transparent case, you can use acetone on a cotton swab to remove marks left over by your trimming. Acetone melts plastic, so be careful where you put it.

But doesn't acetone introduce clouding? Sure on this specific instance it would be no problem since it already has that frosted/milky glass look but on a proper clear look plastic acetone could be a bad idea I think.

What would make this even better is buffing the shell with automotive headlight polish like PlastX. It takes a good bit of elbow grease, but once it comes out to a mirror finish, it looks absolutely amazing.

Those clear shells come up a treat when you spray paint (any color) the inside of them. Just make sure to tape off where the power button slides back and forth, getting paint there will cause the switch to stick :) BTW I also love anything transparent... I guess its just the byproduct of being a kid in the 1990's.

Funnily enough i did 2 jobs myself during quarantine. One was replacing the cracked glass screen cover on my canon 600d, the other was swapping out the buttons on my ps4 controller for a custom look. I had all the parts for years but too scared to do it in case it botched my stuff (expensive to replace) but happy to say i did it and everything works great!

Just finished a Gameboy Colour mod, got it in a Translusant black case, McWill Backlight, Glass Screen Protector and a set of Hand Cast white buttons made by myself. The System didn't have any Batery terminals so I had to fashon myself some out of an old DMG case. Also waiting on an IPS screen for a DMG to replace a damaged screen. Also working on a snes arcade stick and rebuilding a 3D printer. Should be enough to keep me busy during the Quarrantine.

Since you asked what I am doing, literally while watching this video I have an AGB-001 across my desk right now trying to clear off some battery corrosion. It turns on some times if you fiddle with it enough and corrosion seems to have gotten to where the battery contact that is attached to the motherboard is soldered. This is my first repair attempt and have been subbed to your channel for a while and I figured why not watch your videos while I am working on this trying to pass time :).

Hello! Just wanted to say that you can make your cuts look much more invisible with a bit of heat. If you carefully heat the white torn part with your hot air station, you can make those lines disapear :) Also, would be curious to see what a non frosted clear case would look like!

if you're running short on IPA it really is perfectly harmless to put PCB's in an ultrasonic cleaner with just distilled water and some ammonia based cleaner (Cif kitchen cooktop cleaner). it'll remove all the dirt and grime as well as remove oxidation/corrosion from the contacts and switches, then just rinse and dry with an antistatic cloth and either a hairdrier or radiant heat.

if you add a bit of heat to the edges that you cut, and to the screw bosses, it'll take the stress marks off of them. they'll get more clear pretty quickly.

Retro Modding needs to make clear silicone membranes to go with the start and select. Maybe if they used clear silicone, it would be less frosted looking? Also, if you have a color printer, they sell clear sticker material you can print on. Scan the original label, print it on the sticker film in 25% or 50% opacity, and bam. Your own Tetris DX label.

I've been gathering up all the parts to do my first mod. I'm planning on building my dream gameboy advance. I've got a clear purple shell, my tri-wing included screwdriver set just came today, I've got brand new membranes to match the buttons that came with the shell and I'm just waiting on the ags101 screen I ordered. Can't wait to do this! Once retro-modding is back up I'll probably order their power kit as well so I can charge it.

Why did you opt for the AGS-101 screen? You can get the IPS v2 kit from funnyplaying.com(OEM) for $45 USD(cheaper than most AGS-101 screens + adapter).

I need to order it on Amazon because I don't have a credit card but in Japan where I live you can order stuff on Amazon and pay for it at a convenience store. Love it Elliot! I will be getting an ips screen to mod a GBC next! Just given my NES edition GBA SP a good clean and installed the guts and screen from a cheap American AGS-101 inside. Best Gameboy ever in my opinion, just the fact that in can play anything from the DMG all the way to the GBA! The AGS-101 screen is epic. Perfect handheld for isolation. The switch is a very close second!

If you sand the cut marks flat and work up to 2000 grit from about 320 then use some future floor polish you’ll get a almost perfect clear look
