One thing I find missing in every head to head review of VW or Mustang vs Tesla is the service network. VW is getting close to 1000 dealerships in the US. If you ever need service you can take it to one of them. I know two people that have had Model S Teslas die and they needed to be flat bedded over 100 miles to be serviced which isn't too bad if it's under warranty but can you imagine dropping hundreds of dollars to get your car to a dealer for service then driving 3 hours to return home? All cars need service at some point, even electrics.

We test drove the U.S. 1st edition on Saturday. The car is big. Very roomy. The doors do go thunk with the solid feel and sound. Fast enough for the average family. It will push you back in the seat. We did not floor it but it was zippy. The fit and finish was excellent, European level of workmanship. Comparing to a Model Y not the best. The Y is a performance car compared to the ID4. I do like the the VW dealer network. I really like the 1st edition. We liked the light gray dash and steering wheel. Nice change from black. The 1st edition we liked better than the top level Pro series, we liked the extras and color pallet of the 1st edition. The only the negative is resistance heating instead of a heat pump. I have 2 other EV's and knew what to look for. We were so impressed we bought a 1st edition still available in town. For a person who has not driven electric, might not be comfortable with the acceleration. It could turn someone off. VW is aiming this at the RAV4 and Honda CRV crowd. We had a RAV4 and a CRV and the ID4 is light years ahead of either. Cannot wait to take delivery. Looking forward to a long trip and using the 3 year free charging. My summary is it is like driving a very nice limo but with the zip of a sports car. To me I could see this on the autobahn. VW made a GT, Grand Touring car like the original definition of the GT not a muscle car. Very refined, well appointed and comfortable. VW should have the ID3 in the states, priced right it would go after the Accord and Camry crowd. A sports version would take sales away from BMW.

@@rogerstarkey5390 Building a car in the EU is more expensive as importing from US, that is why Mercedes has never build a single ML in Europe. They just avoided import tax with the same trick Tesla now uses, (leave some parts un-assembled and call it a car parts). Mercedes was warned that they had to stop doing it, so has Tesla now. I doubt that the casting would be legal in Europe as we have strong regulation about maximum repair costs, Sandy Munro said any serious accidents would render the car total loss as the casting can not be repaired but has to be entirely replaced and that would be too expensive as half of the car has to be disassembled. The expected price is not rumoured, there is an estimation made by people who do that on a regular basis and those people are never far off.

As a Tesla owner I like this video as it gives a perspective to others who want to buy an ID4, and hopefully will get a Tesla model Y for the same money, or a Kia Nero for less price

Could you please explain how those prices were calculated? It looks like you just threw in random numbers or compared UK vs US pricing.

I don’t like the huge touch screen in the Tesla. I also like buttons.
@martinottosson65833 жыл бұрын
Touch screen plus the most common tasks on buttons is the best solution imo. However the buttons on the ID3/4 is probably the worst buttons ever in a car, especially those on the steeringwheel. They truly suck. Fully Charged are great at many things, but reviewing cars critically in definitely not one if them.

When you like buttons, you would hate those touch buttons of VW. They switch before you know that you even barely touched them.

In more recent videos, I've noticed an ID.4 in Robert's garage. On the Tesla MY v ID.4 comparison, I'd suggest other plus points for the MY are efficiency and software, and plus points for the ID.4 are build quality, lower cost (shown in the video), long-term reliability of a car from an experienced car manufacturer (assuming early software issues can be fixed), ride comfort, lower road noise, and more compact width. The latter is a bug bear of mine; many big battery EVs are too wide for UK urban streets and country lanes. Excluding mirrors, the MY width is a fat 1921 mm compared with the ID.4 at 1852mm.

Robert when you drive the Ionic 5 you will have a second opinion about the ID4. The Ioniq comes bug-free, 800v charging & V2Load. So are you changing your Tesla for a VW?

Yes, Hyundai (and Kia) are kicking most other legacy providers butts re range esp when you look at the battery size for that range.

Vw build quality simply is unbeatable in this price segment, at least until the japanese enter the market. It really depends on what you look for in a car which ev you should go for. Same as with ice cars, who would have tought ey.

Bug free - ?
@brycedubois30233 жыл бұрын
Agree. Prod quality really impressive. Well done. Perhaps not so well done was getting a feel for the vehicle. I know one criticism is the ID.4 is it not having more regenerative modes allowing one pedal driving, which has become a must-have EV feature/benefit. And I could argue (as the truck went by) that the idea of heavy goods vehicles being BEVs is far from inevitable. Pay load, range, depot turnaround sounds more like an FCEV or synthetic fuel solution to me. Time will tell. Keep in mind we have to strive for a net zero synthetic/liquid fuel solution for aviation and shipping, so why not heavy goods vehicles?

Honest question: why? Build quality, styling, personal taste, or some of each? Also, how much would you be willing to pay for the ID.4? The same, less or more? How much less/more?
@rover2133 жыл бұрын
@@DanielZajic well you nail it, it's all the personal taste, the fact that tesla build quality isn't great, also the fact that are deliberately concealing "features" they put in all they're models behind a paywall, also ID4 price wise cheaper... also, it may count the fact they boost ego to much and rely on pre-releasing purchases to entice possible future buyers, not to mention, they are against third party repairs, even wen they are specialized on electric vehicles... (looking at America and the right to repair bills)
@davethepants3 жыл бұрын
@@DanielZajic chassis size alone is a huge factor (pun possibly intended). Teslas are just too big for many European cities, especially by length. The ID.4 is 11cm shorter than even the Model 3

sefh 001 did we watched the same show? The model Y was better on pretty much everything. Shows like this need/feel that they need to help the under dogs given the dominance of Testa. but come on...a company that yesterday was cheating everyone on their pollution emissions test now are green? If you walk into a VW dealer today, 99% of their fleet are petrol burners. If Tesla disappears tomorrow every car company will dramatically slow down their electricity cars plans. I suggest we all reflect on this for a moment. Thanks
