I've seen the Cyberster up close and personal at the first Everything Electric Live Show in London. It managed something few cars can - it made Yellow look good - really good. It's not as small as an MG classic sports car, but you barely notice because the proportions are so spot on. It's like when the Mini One was first released. Despite dwarfing an original mini it still managed to look small. The Mini Clubman by contrast looks like it ate a couple of Mini Ones for breakfast. The Cyberster is very pleasing on the eye and (despite Jack and Rob not liking them) the doors are very cool and also practical. They are easy to open in small spaces. With cars getting bigger and parking spaces staying the same size that's a definite bonus. I would love to cruise around in one during those five annual hours when we get sunshine in the UK. The fact that you can still benefit from the near silent electric drive chain if you want to talk with the roof down is delightful. Driving through the countryside topless (ooh-er) able to talk to each other about the sound of local wildlife is one of the treats of going electric that ICE-tech owners can only imagine.

I know the doors seem kind of stupid, but.... When you are parked next to another car - and let's face it, cars have gotten wider and wider but parkingspaces have not - it is really helpful that the door opens upward like that, particularly in a low sportcar. I once read an article by a guy who had put Lambo-doors on his MGF (because he could), and he explained how helpful they were in France where cars park very close to one another. Ever since then whenever I have been in a tight space I can't help thinking how I would love that type of door on my own roadster - and it doesn't get easier with age to get one foot out of a narrow gap and get up to standing using just one leg -without scratching the neighbor's car. Of course when parked out in the middle of nowhere it just seems silly, but try in a parking lot next to an oversize SUV, and you will see why the doors are that way.

I'm afraid to say that, as a crazed Red Dwarf fan, Bobby getting out of any car near me would result in me delaying his bathroom and quavers mission, regardless of the uniqueness of the door. That said, I really like the doors. I was very hesitant in the early concepts but in the production model they do seem to be much quicker so less annoying than I feared. They are also quite practical for tight spaces and I do like the idea of popping them open as I approach the car. Also, I know what Jack means about kids being easily pleased, but when you're talking about sports cars they need to appeal to that inner child a little bit. That's why we drive them.

That was quite an apt description of the reaction of a Tesla when you hammer the throttle - "well, f*** you then, voodoom [gone hand gesture]." My ID3 PP does a similar thing to the MG. You stand on the acceleraator and it says, "...are you sure?" And before anyone says, yes it is a bit slower [though not slow], but the delivery is how Jack is describing. And the doors will put most of that market off. It's a strange decision to include them. Just like they said I'm the vid. An older pairing, especially the women, they would be an instant pass, and they would move in the Mazda for their Sunday convertible. Which would be a better sports car. Or a Jag for GT which would also be better, and better for the environment being a slightly used money model. This is why other OEMs aren't doing it, it's a small market and it's all but covered with great options. One of the big OEMs that share chassis and platforms will probably nail it. Cut the top of the Cupra born and you'd have a good starting point. That's what it will take to get in around the ice sports car price.

Oh and a H2 fuel cell has a life of under 100k miles, before it stops working effectively enough to move the vehicle. A replacement fuel cell costs more than an EV battery, and an EV battery has a life of hundreds of thousands of miles. Oh and H2 burns too, explosively!! The doors can be operated with the key fob. As you walk toward the car the door can be already open when you arrive at the car. Never having to manually open and close the doors and have them elegantly function at your convenience is superb.

When I drove it back to South Wales from Manchester, I was so surprised & impressed. Was it as thrilling as my Westfield? Of course not, but it handled very smartly and was effortless over the distance and nearly 40mpg. The MGF was never trying to be a Lotus and the Cyberster is exactly what MGs have always historically been - A practical, affordable sporting car that you can use every day. I'm surprised that the door design cops some flack. Considering the market this is likely to appeal to I would say the doors are spot on. Sure, not practical, but it's a 2 seater sports car. Flamboyance is the order of the day!

Nice The doors don't bother me although I was wondering about smallish garages. Have they reduced the lane assist?

Summation, they should change the name for the next version, to MG EVGT, everything else would match that.

Hi guys, as always you've made another belter. A couple of questions please : 1. ref the doors, is there any way of opening them in a conventional way rather than the Lambo/Maclaren drama? I ask because they look a bit high when fully open and could catch on the ceiling of a multi story car park? & 2. When are they going to be available?

Really hoping to try this at Everything Electric this weekend though I expect demand will be insane. I am 6'2 so I really want to know if I'll fit. That said I used to track an NB MX5 so I could make it work I'm sure.

From their description of how it drives... it's a Jaaag... rather than a Jaaack... Perfect for most of the people that I know that buy this style of car. Stunning looking, and well done MG, you have managed to build... well... an MG :D

Hello, I really love your reviews 🙂 I would like to add a comment about the doors. I do agree that they are a little flashy, and I am not one who likes to be too flashy however . . . I drive a 2 cars with only 2 doors - a Mercedes SLK and a Mercedes E Class convertible. In both cases the doors are large and you have to be very careful when parking in car parks. I like these doors because you can fit into narrower parking spaces than I can in my two 🙂 I absolutely welcome MG producing a proper convertible car. I will only replace my two Mercs (one diesel, one petrol) when a decent electric convertible is available and I believe that this fits the bill.

❤😊 Lovely car and I love the doors ❤ sounds to me the traction control seems a little bit keen ... when are we had a i3 BMW? it was fantastic but there was this delay every time you put your foot down which made it feel a bit slow . ... then bought the i3s and suddenly it was instant speed only problem is because the tyre's 😮 fun ... Yeah I think a sports car should be instant speed fun maybe you could turn the traction control off ??? 😅😅

This should have been an Alfa, with a crazy name and I would actually fall in love with it, only thins missing is the triangle upfront and the Alfa style wheels. They can keep the red color and all.
