The sudden disconnection after the flood of calls makes sense. The owner of the toll-free number is the one paying for the calls. More calls, more payments. I think that's why they're relatively rare for ARGs. It's cheaper just to get a regular local number with unlimited talk and text and build your game around that.

I’m just gonna say my verdict is some people set up this number and voicemail as an ARG and got bored and dropped it before it got that far. As someone who was a teen in the 90s, this totally feels like an inside joke. Some kid or 20 y/o either had access to this number through their dads work or brute forced the pin and put this message up. The 90s were a time when people did a lot of phone pranks. You could buy comedy tapes that were made to be outgoing messages on your answering machine. This got passed around some high school or community college in the 90s.
@Caligulette_3 ай бұрын
For reference, in the US, 800 numbers (said like “eight-hundred,” not “eight-oh-oh”) are toll-free numbers that, back in the day when long distance calls were a thing, would be free to call from anywhere in the US. To get a 1-800 number, you have to pay for it. So if this is a dead ARG, someone somewhere is still actively paying to maintain this number. Also, FWIW most one-off amusement parks don’t have 1-800 numbers; they’ll just have a number with their local area code.
@TheInternetInvestigator3 ай бұрын

Just one thing of note: “State Highway 687” != Interstate 687. There are a number of tiers of road designations depending on the state. “State Highway” implies that the road only goes through the state where it is named as such. US687 would be a major carriageway that goes between states, but is not an interstate. An Interstate (I687) is a major highway with several lanes going in each direction. Further, 687 would mean that it is a bypass of a section of I87, as the first digit is even. A fictional “I587” would be a spur that originated from I87, as the first digit is odd. Also, the last digit being odd implies that it is a north/south road, and the second digit being an 8 means that it is east coast, since interstate highways are numbered from west to east on north/south highways and north to south on east/west highways. So, if the road on the voicemail was an interstate, it would be fairly easy to locate, since there can only be so many bypasses called I687 off I87.

Probably a huge stretch but the guy saying they think it'd be near PA/NJ made me think of this one place I've passed by before in Delaware. It's off DE-896 (state highway) and called Jurassic Fun Land. When you go to their website, it asks you to "pick a location" but only lists the one. I wonder if maybe the phone number could be part of some weird expansion pitch? There's also a blueberry farm called Milburn Orchards six miles away, and a park ten miles away called Dragon Run Park. This info could also be useful in that it's just some weird kid's place that barely exists, which could be what this thing is too. Or it was being planned but never went into construction. Maybe the phone number was set up early to talk to contractors or something.

FYI the "wooder" pronunciation extends all the way down through the entire state of Delaware. It's a running joke in Delaware that everyone says it this way. Philly and New Jersey are a short drive from Delaware. I've made that drive myself. Just wanted to add an extra possible lead.

My theory. The number could have been set up for a smaller event, like an escape room. Example: Find a flier for the park(on a wall or in a drawer in the room) as a clue. Call the number on it and guess the pin for the next clue to be given in a voice mail message. But the owner of the number never counted on people calling random 800 numbers, and flooding an unused voicemail box. Side note. The song 'Jeepers Creepers' was released in 1938. It's funny how now days everyone thinks of the movie, and the song is almost forgotten. But if the message is a throwback to by gone days (mitten knitting, marble rolling contest), the blue berry farm name is probably a reference to the song, not the movie.

You might be too young to remember this, but when cell phones first came out, you used to be able to call your own number, type in the pin once you got to your voicemail, and then you could listen to your voicemails, even if you weren’t on your phone. Which means you could go to a payphone and check your voicemails. You could call a landline and check your voicemails. The message that you described makes me think that that was the pin to check the voicemails. The message that popped up is reminiscing of somebody who may be would block that ability. So when they even though he figured out the pin, he was no longer able to check the voicemails from an alternative phone number. Which is why he got the error message and why the pin was changed.

@@TheInternetInvestigator I don't remember which channel it was, but the one I watched yesterday discussed similar possibilities to the ones that you did. I can only speak for myself, but I'll listen to another video on a topic I've already heard about, especially if it's from a creator that I enjoy. Let's investigaet!

I have a theory it probably isn't right but it's something Mascot indie horror is a pretty popular thing I feel like theres a new one popping up every few months now, I think an old dragon theme park that holds weird out of touch event's kids wouldn't want to go to sounds like a very obvious setting for one of these types of games the phone call is actually a very popular trope in these types of games as well i could totally see this at a marketing arg to promote a game but obviously games are difficult to make maybe the developer gave up and lost interest so stopped the phone calls the more im thinking about it the more its seeming like a possibility

I swear if this is just another ARG and not some cool lost media of a forgotten theme park... 😤 I'd totally draw fan art

So a few years ago I was involved in a performance art piece at my college and for it, I put together a phone number for a fake company people view the piece could call. This was not difficult and only cost around twenty dollars. I personally hired a voice actor on Fivver to record my messages, but there are plenty of similar cheap services you can use to make very convincing messages. I’m saying this because I feel that the inside joke/failed arg ideas are very VERY likely here. The failed arg my personal theory as the PIN code not leading to anything could easily just be a feature the creator intended to flesh out, but never got around to. Or, if the poster was telling the truth and they did find the number at random, it could even be a wip arg that someone out there is still putting together and hasn’t set up the response yet

They used to be a jeepers in jersey Gardens mall. Feels like it’s so off-topic to even mention it, but watching this video triggered my memory of going there as a kid there is a fact or was a jeepers in New Jersey. It was up north though and in Jersey Gardens mall..

I bet it’s a place in a book or a comic that had a number written in the text and they made the number real for fun

I suspect somebody put this message on this number so they could post it on reddit as an internet mystery. So the first record of this number being discussed online is probably by the person responsible. Create a "mystery" and tell everuone on the internet about said mystery for attention. He who smelled it dealt it.

To me, this seems like it could be associated with some other piece of media or game of some sort. It *could* be an ARG, or it could be a phone number visible in a movie or TV show that just hasnt been identified yet where this park is a setting or background feature, or possibly even as part of an escape room or other type of puzzle game. I have no idea why an escape room operator would buy a toll-free number instead of just having a local recording on a disconnected phone, but it could be something like that.

I’m surprised this hasn’t been mentioned but it could totally be from an old defunct prank call or fake number service, like a fake number that you’d give out as a joke.
