Genie is most definitely a daytime legend! I have been to about 3 soap events during the last few years, but Genie didn't attend. I have been waiting to meet her for 40 years and hope it will happen!

I grew up with the whole Luke and Laura saga. I also enjoyed her in the Bare Essence tv movie. Genie is a television icon. How many people are on the cover of virtually every magazine in the early 80's AND have Princess Diana as a fan?

Genie Francis is so amazing, not only as an actress but as a person. I wish she would have done that movie Splash with Tom Hanks, silly as it was she would have been phenomenal. As it is I have enjoyed her in everything she has starred in. My favorite being the 3 Hallmark movies starting with The Note. It's funny my 15 year old grandson found the Luke and Laura playlist from 79-81 and he is in love with Laura. Imagine his shock when I explained that the 79-81 were the years 1979-1981 and that Laura (Genie) was 1 year older than me. I had to show him recent GH clips so he believed me.

My 2 favorite scenes of Genie Francis on GH are : -After the rape Laura is in shock and Jessie (played by the wonderful Emily McLaughlin ) helps her to clean up and put on a hospital gown. It is a hard scene to watch because of the devastation on Laura's face. It's hard to breath watching it. Genie was only 17 at the time and she played it wonderfully. It's almost a 5 minute scene, the best place to see it (it's a scratchy video tape version) is "Luke and Laura ~ After the Terrible Night, Part 2 (Jessie comforts Laura)" -The scene in which Genie is talking about where Laura has to hide her baby in a closet and load a shotgun and shoot an intruder in her home. "GH- Luke and Laura (&Lucky) 95-96 playlist p.19 and p.20". I think it shows that the character has been on the run with Luke and Lucky for 10 years and has had to become self sufficient and determined to fight for her life and for the life of her family.

She was as good as Tony. It was her portrayal of Laura's feelings for Luke, that made us fall in love with Luke and find him so desirable. Genie's raw emotion, the intensity of her acting during the Luke and Laura story line was that powerful. Without being paired with Genie, Tony would just have been another popular actor on a soap opera, and today, hardly anyone would even know his name. The same could be said for Genie. However, paired together, they were screen magic. Tony once said that he was a good enough actor that he made an entire nation believe he was sexy. I disagree. I think it was Genie's acting ability that made us believe Tony was sexy. I'm not dissing Tony, he was great on GH and I thought he was cute; however, Genie made him a heartthrob. Well, that is my opinion, anyway.

The storylines on GH from 79 to 81 were great. After Genie left people stopped watching. Genie came back in 83 and the writers had her sneaking around in disguise which was really bad writing. Genie came back again in the early 90s and we found out she was held captive on Cassadine island and had babies with all the Cassadine brothers. What a way to destroy a character. Really bad writing.
