A good start is to watch videos like this, from real masters as our master Slawa heree, Eric Dubé, Blankenshield tem, etc. Then practice, practice and practice on scrap metal pieces.

You don't need at lot of expensive tool to understand the basics, just start off with a regular blacksiths hammer or machineshop hammer and a large piecve of firewood, so You learn the material, then You can invest in more expensive tools later.

As a historian and armorsmith, I pray he does not use this armor for other than photos or display. Because of NOT rolling any edge that will come in contact with the body, especially the neck. It is dangerous to the wearer. I have seen this in a live competition where the wearer had his throat cut and died on the field for real.

What exactly is going on when you heat up the metal then (I think) wire brush it to make it look gold-ish? Is that some sort of alt means of plating the metal?

In his video about helmet he make a “antenna” with Ukrainian coat of arm at the end painted gold (as official coat of arm of Ukraine if I,m not wrong). He also painted gold front part of helmet, so I think it’s just for aesthetics and Keynes homage to his heritage
