I have deep love for Math right from school days which was implanted by my 3rd grade math teacher..You remind me of him in every video and teaching financial literacy to me now.. every video is clear and simple for a beginner.. I pause your video number of times to take notes and watch it multiple times to process the information! Though I feel bad to start very late (37 now😊), your videos give the hope and feel that it’s never too late to start.. Very grateful for your service here! Keep teaching and enlightening us!!

But what about the seasoned investors who have been investing for the past 5 years ? Do they have to go back to their Investments Histories to find the dates, purchase prices and then do the XIRR calculations?

@@InvestmentInsightsTamil If we sold some of the stocks, How to update this sheet and calculate XIRR ? Can you show us an example(may be in the same google sheet) on calculating XIRR if the event of stocks sold as well ?
@InvestmentInsightsTamil Жыл бұрын
@@KarthikeyanRamaswami It is just another row for that positive cash flow that is all. Say that you are selling VTI for $3000 on May 16, you will add that as a positive cash flow entry (as you are taking the money out). That is all.
@KarthikeyanRamaswami Жыл бұрын
@@InvestmentInsightsTamil Ok. If this applicable for not selling all the SHARES and only partly selling few shares (of the same company) ... ? Also, what do put in the Current Value column for the shares SOLD ? Zero ? Won't the previously BOUGHT Shares (of the same company) Current Value mess up with XIRR if we already SOLD few shares of the same ?
@InvestmentInsightsTamil Жыл бұрын
@@KarthikeyanRamaswami Good point. So when you sell a stock, the "invested money" column will have sales proceeds as a positive value. And the current value cell needs to be updated to be negative of sales proceeds value, so that the current total value reflects the right current total value. let me see if I can add another table that can accommodate for sold units as well, so that it is clear for data entry.

Sir, for Mutual Fund return calculation we can use XIRR. But for comparing two stocks’s return, we can use CAGR right? Because month on month investment illa sir in stocks, one time purchase only for the most part. Kindly clarify
@InvestmentInsightsTamil Жыл бұрын
Most of us buy our investment at different periods of time, not necessarily in SIP. For different dates of investment, XIRR gives you accurate return rate. You can use XIRR even if you have bought a stock just once. Or in other words, XIRR fits all situation to calculate the return rate of our investments.
