You indirectly bring up a very important point and that is that cordage, not the knife, is the most important survival item. One thing I have bought myself is how to make cordage in the field.

Excellent presentation and thorough discussion of tripods. I particularly appreciate you sitting on the ridgeline pole and telling us your weight. As you mentioned, it gives a lot of perspective about the strength of the tripods.

I am building a long term shelter in Texas for lashing would using Stainless steel wire work? I can get it cheap and it would take tools , but I want the structure to be up for years.
