I am 66 and have been working out with clubs now for about 2 months. It's been terrific. I have an ancient shoulder injury that has benefited greatly from these activities. The club work is a perfect compliment to the staff/wand work I do. Thanks for an excellent video.

I sit at a desk job all day, began to fear getting feeble and turning into a shuffling old man. So I took up kettlebells last year at age 66. After 8 months I can work like when I was 10 years younger. I cut up two trees last weekend, and was easily tossing logs 10 feet. I recently saw a video on Indian Clubs so I am starting with them too. Getting old is inevitable, but that doesn't mean we can't keep our mobility and strength.

Hello Benno Martini: My methods are heavily influenced by F. Jahn's vision for German physical culture. I grew up in a German-American town called Davenport right after WWII. My great-grandfather was born in 1845 and immigrated here from Germany when my grandfather was around seven years old. They were both Turners. We had one of the best Turner Halls in America, and there were still old Indian club instructors around when I started practicing at around age eight. Hans Reuter and his father were some of the earlier Davenport Turners that inspired many before I was born. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHPVm51sltBjbac. Hans later became a professor of physical education at the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse. The Indian club playlist on this channel has 46 more video clips that might be of value as you master the basics. You might also be interested in the harmonica playlist. Another childhood gift imported from Germany. Hohner harps of course. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3mrh2qGpdp1pqc. Best wishes.

Hello Calvin Prioleau Jr.: The history of Indian Clubs is for me as interesting as the practice. Aaron Molyneaux Hewlett is one of those early Club swinging pioneers to whom we owe much. He was head of the first Harvard College Gym. Dudley Sargent was his junior. Sargent taught Charles McCloy, and I studied under McCloy's students. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Molyneaux_Hewlett.

What weight club should a beginner use for these exercises
@viamilitaris10 ай бұрын
Hello vincentj: For this system, one pound clubs are a good starting weight for most. Perhaps best to have both one and two pounders. As skill improves, start using two pounders at times.
@IGERDZ Жыл бұрын
what is the weight of this one? What's the best for an average man to start?
@viamilitaris Жыл бұрын
Hello Ivan Gerdz: 1-1.5 pounds is a good starting weight that allows for pull away from your centerline while allowing you to concentrate on posture, accuracy, and eventual speed. Best wishes.

Hello Bad Bear: Medical issues and physical therapy are outside my lane. My expertise is in prevention and physical training. Perhaps best to consult a medical professional. Maybe one of them that visits this site can offer some advice. What size clubs are you using?

@@viamilitaris sorry for delayed response - I have not been using any clubs recently but I have very light ones available - 1# that I could try very gently, just got curious about gentleman in this video that rehabbed his own rotator cuff troubles with Indian clubs; wondering how exactly he approached this problem using clubs? Thank You
@viamilitaris4 жыл бұрын
@@badbear3942 If your medical resources have cleared you for exercise, Indian clubs might be useful. The US Army employed them for soldier reconditioning during WWII, and they are used today by many. Perhaps best to stay with your one-pounders, move slowly, modify movements to align with your current capacity, listen to your body, and avoid any patterns that cause even the least amount of pain. You might even practice without clubs with careful attention to wrist position and posture. Also might be useful to sometimes stabilize one shoulder and use only one club. The Indian clubs Iowa playlist has numerous examples of how it can be done. Best of luck.
