Great idea with the cake molds. Piping using cardboard or aluminum foil.

Thank you! I saw another tie dyer using them and I thought it was a brilliant idea too. I used to use cardboard, but that was so time consuming cutting, taping and forming it - so I went to using foil, but after buying the cake molds I've been using only those. They are so easy to mold to odd shaped folds and they clean up so easily.

Hello! Did you put the black on the back or front and your black looks fantastic. Is it regular amounts dye/water? This looks fantastic!

Hi! It doesn't really matter which side you add the black to. I usually try to add it to the back though. I do mix my black in regular amounts. I use 8 teaspoons of dye powder and 1 cup of water, and 1 Tablespoon of Urea. I've found that black is one of those colors that starts to lose intensity the older it gets, so I try to use it within a day or two of mixing it.

should we soaked in soda solution at the first time? can we just soak in water?? like cold water

The kind of dye that I use (Procion Fiber Reactive Dye) requires a soda ash soak to properly bond the dye with the fabric. You will need to consult the instructions on the particular type of dye that you are using to see if the soda ash soak is necessary.

Do you use urea and sodium alginate in your dye?

I use Urea is my liquid dye, but I normally don't use sodium alginate.
