What a beautiful shirt! I do like the liquid incline because it doesn’t wash the color white as much as the ice dye does. And it gives it a whole different feel for the burst pattern. What I would like to know is when you batch the shirt do you cover it with plastic or take it out of the gutter and put it in a bag, or just what ? Thank you so much.

Thank you! Normally I just leave the shirt in the guttering without a cover to batch. However if I take my shirt outside to batch it, I will cover it in some way. I usually leave it in the guttering, but I will place a long plastic lid over the guttering so that nothing can come in contact with the shirt.

Do you notice that your shirts dye better if dry as opposed to being damp? I love the end result, the purple is glowing!

Thank you so much! I prefer to dye most of my shirts dry. I usually get better saturation on a dry shirt than I do a shirt that is damp. I especially like to dye thick designs like mandalas and geodes dry. If you've ever seen either a geode or a mandala with large white streaks - that's usually the reason why. The center of the shirt was too wet and the dye didn't absorb well. If the shirt is too damp, the fibers don't want to soak up the dye because they are already saturated with soda ash solution. Whereas dry fibers soak up the dye like a sponge. It is also a little easier to tell if the inside of the shirt is well saturated with dye on a dry shirt. If the dye starts coming through to the back side of the shirt - more than likely the center of the shirt has gotten well saturated. I know this because the fibers in the center of the shirt have absorbed the dye and the leftover dye is what is starting to show through on the back. I think it takes a little more liquid dye to dye a dry shirt though.

Yes, you can center a tank top. You would do it the same way as a t-shirt, but it would actually be a little easier since you don't have sleeves.

Hi Angie, Love your channel, you've really inspired me to try new techniques, but I'm curios about drying the shirt after tying. I've been putting them outside in the sun to dry, and down here in central Florida they can dry in just a day. My daughter thinks that too much heat will affect will affect how well the soda ash works Whats your thoughts on that? Thanks in advance,

Thank you - I'm glad you are enjoying the videos! I don't think that the heat will affect how well the soda ash works. You should be fine. I don't put my shirts outside in the heat before they are dyed, but in the summer I put them outside in a covered container after I've applied the dye to process.
