You can't have this realistic look with cgi today.. even when it comes to Transformers or The Thing.. The movements aren't natural and texture is most of the time too perfect. If they need to make a movie with cgi in it, they should make the WHOLE movie in cgi like they did with Final Fantasy The Spirits Within.

Despite nods to the 1987 series, this was still the most faithful and well done TMNT adaptation to date. Shredder with the red outfit making it all the more epic, and James Saito nailing the role. Judith Hoag was the best April too. I do admit though, the editing crew not catching the donatello creepy mouth moment is wierd. The rest are honestly passable but you'd think they would've wanted that removed.

Talks about the voice actors and the body suit performers, but no mention of the puppeteers controlling the animatronics in the heads... 😔 There were three suit performers per turtle; one in the body and two per head (one on mouth and one one eyes). Also, I’m friends with Michelan ‘Micha’ Sisti (suit performer for Mikey). He’s directed me on a few puppeteering gigs. Really awesome fit with a lot of great stories. He also did the suit work for Charlene on Dinosaurs.

I remember when this film originally came out. I was 7 years old and SO excited. I absolutely LOVED this film. As a kid, Raphael had been my favorite. I remember watching the film with my (then 4 year old little brother) and the both of us being perplexed as to why the wise-cracking, fun loving Raphael from the cartoon was suddenly this angry, tough acting, New York taxi driver sounding guy. But it sure didn't take long before we actually began PREFERRING this version of him. (And good thing, too because this seems to be the version of the character that they've used as a model personality-wise for every other Turtle live action and animated series ever since) One thing I absolutely HATED about this film, (and still dislike to this day) is the choice in actress for April. I remember feeling SO disappointed when she was introduced on screen for the first time. I whined to my father, asking WHY did one of my FAVORITE characters have to be RUINED?. (At the time, the 1980's cartoon was my only point of reference for this series. I didn't find out about the original comics until I was a little older). I have NOTHING against the actress and I hope no one thinks I'm trying to attack her because I PROMISE this is not the case!) I just didn't think she looked OR acted like the April from the cartoon. And maybe that was on purpose, but 7 year old me didn't understand that. I didn't care about her not being in the yellow jumpsuit. (Actually I got tired of her wearing it and used to wish she'd change clothes in the cartoon) 'Kid' me felt like this movie April was just _too_ mean; I disliked her personality and thought she was bossy and rude for no reason. She wasn't the bubbly, likeable girl from the cartoon. And kid me thought she looked a little old to be April. (I STILL think this now, some 30 years later) I mean, adult me 'gets' that they were going for the assertive, tough as nails reporter after her 'next scoop'. But kid me was was heartbroken she was such a different character. Whereas Raphael's new movie personality worked for me, April's movie identity just... disappointed me. _"Well, at least she's got red hair,"_ was what my daddy pointed out when 'kid' me complained about not liking 'this lady'.

2:27 To add to what you mentioned about Raph’s actor and the suit, the reason why these suits do not exist anymore (unlike the other Henson features which do have existing costumes dating back to the very first Kermit in 1955) is because the actor literally tore off the head to shreds which cost the studio money to remake every time he was on set. There’s only 1 costume which was discovered and restored - Donatello
@MsMarvelDuckie3 жыл бұрын
Actually, all of the original suits still exist, in varying states of disrepair. Two of them are in a comic shop and museum, respectively, one is in a restuarant, I believe, and the last is in a private collection. All have deteriorated over the years due to the rubber latex used to make them, the best preserved one is the Donatello suit, though Mikey is also still in fair shape for it's age. Leo is mostly in pieces, and Raph is badly damaged. But all still exist.
@ScatteredCollector3 жыл бұрын
@@MsMarvelDuckie Not complete though. From what I’ve seen and heard, they were destroyed after filming. I’ve seen the third film Mickey’s head in a personal collection, and Donatello’s suit fully restored. The others however I am not aware of.
@MsMarvelDuckie3 жыл бұрын
@@ScatteredCollector No they were never destroyed. They were simply boxed up and stored poorly, and degraded over time due to the materials. In most cases (all but Donnie, I think) they are in pieces and most of the latex has crumbled and become all but disintegrated. The Mikey head is one of the few well preserved pieces left. I believe it is in a museum, and it was from movie 2, if memory serves. I'd have to check the Technodrome site for details, but they have a full history and current whereabouts of all the suits, including what state of condition they are in.
@ScatteredCollector3 жыл бұрын

They should do a Jim Henson TMNT 3. They can reference the turtles back in time film as a dream sequence. Have a bunch of bonus DVD extras with the production crew "accidentally" being in a few scenes. Perhaps even having the Turtles notice them and play through it. In the actual film should have the same balance of dark tones and light-heartedness that the original film did. I'm not sure who the villian should be though... 🤔

@@FLYintheSkY321 I did notice the sword bending against the wall and the part where ralph was unconscious, but that was years later after I bought the movie in college 😆

I feel for the stuntmen when I was in Iraq in 03 I wore a full combat load. I.e Kevlar, body armor, 2 saw ammo drums, the 240 saw itself , m40 gas mask. Ruck sack. Hats off to the stuntmen.

I saw this IN THE THEATER. And. I bought the VHS for 19.99 at Walmart when it came out. Despite the ‘mistakes’, nothing compares to this movie. Nothing.

I hope they will one day reboot the movie universe and use those kind of design for turtles. And maybe follow a dark and gore version of that universe.

Best TMNT movie ever. Don’t forget after the opening credits logo when the turtles jump out. Leo, Mikey, and Donnie are all missing turtle shins and feet.
