I was a kid in the 80's and my parents got this movie on vhs to watch with my grandparents. They would roar with laughter at this movie. When i watched it again i couldn't control myself laughing so hard. What's so funny is there is nothing zany or outlandish here. It's too close to reality. I'm convinced the leg lamp had to have happened in real life. You can't make that stuff up. And i can't remember how many times in my life hearing "don't shoot an eye out." gene shepherd really captured a treasure of americana here. I’ve been a fan of this movie since ever it came out… I was living in Toronto at the time and in 3rd grade…filming was in part of downtown Toronto… Just this past summer I visited Cleveland and did the tour of the actual house & walked out of the gift shop with a RRBB gun!!! ❤

Much filmed in my hometown of Cleveland where there is a museum now in the house. I lived a few blocks from the school they showed.

My very favorite Christmas movie. I’m glad they went with the actors they did. I still laugh at this movie, even though I’ve been watching it since I was a kid. And yes, I was a kid and the late 80s.

Another fun fact is that Jean Shepherd also voiced the Father in the current version of the "Carousel of Progress" at Disney World.

Everybody should read Shepard’s short stories. Fabulous writing. This movie has parts of his stories. I used to read his stories every year for 10 years. That is how good they are. He would always refer to “the old man” and I always associated it with my dad. As I got older I realized that I am the “old man” now

Jack Nicholson as the old man would have "killed Ralphie" for saying the F dash dash dash word. And he would have used a croquet mallet.

It's ironic how things work out when casting these classic movies and the cast did a great job in this movie, Darren McGavin was the right choice along with Ralphie and the rest of the family. Thank you for the fun facts video.

So the Asian actors were onboard with their stereotypical bad english, thought it was hilarious, and even gave their input on how to make it better? Well , I'll be damned... Hear that, 'current year'? Maybe if you spent less time being offended for other people, you'd be a lot better off!

I've said it many times, political correctness has ruined movies and thus the reason I seldom go to the movies these days. If it wasn't produced or directed by Clint Eastwood or Sylvester Stallone, I don't bother. Ahnold has given in to the left years ago, so I don't bother with his movies either. Denzel movies, well, I have to see the reviews first. The older he gets, the less PC crap he wants to participate in. So chances are his movies are ok. Also, if they are historical and are not trying to promote homosexuality like "The Imitation Game", it's ok too. Or, here is another tip. If a Chinese company funded it, chances are it won't be politically correct. They don't care for everything that is destroying the American culture and fabric because they know it will do the same for them and that is the last thing they want. So do your homework. Otherwise, more gay crap and tiny women beating up 220lb tough guys like rag dolls crap that only snowflake millennials enjoy watching.
