This was my fav video. Vietnamese Coffee is the best! Bun bo hue is good, but it actually means , "Spicy Beef Noodles (from Hue)". It's not literally translated into that, but thats what most viets recognize it as. Banh Xeo is a yummy dish. The yellow color comes from tumeric, and my mom would make it with beer (no worries, the alcohol is burned away as it cooks). The beer made it crispy and very good ^-^ My mom also doesnt add in mung bean, saying it has too much of a fiber taste, which she isnt fond of.

Too much work so i never try at home even i love it, n cook at home most time too, my style tend to b of course vegy meals but blend many ethnic n race n culture tho due in usa we influenced by many culture, plus im chinese Vietnamese American, so thats why my style tend to b those region of course n most healthy diet too, little animal products but not lately, many east asians eating lot more n meat now due they get wealthy too, so money can kill u if u don't know use it right in many ways. Those Vietnamese guys are too americanized due grow up in usa, seem they got wrong in many ways but very interesting, exciting, fun, funny guys n vid. I could b wrong little bit due im just 10% Vietnamese n live in states long time.

Lol actually, banh xeo contains no eggs. I've watched my mom cook it and as I said before, the yellow color is from tumeric, a bright yellow spice (?) that is mixed into the batter.

Wow, I though Banh Xeo is call Vietnamese pancake Actually people is Central Viet Nam have some differences in the video (trust me I come from central ). People is the Central Viet Nam use thin rice paper cake to roll Banh Xeo( like spring roll) and vegetable. The sauce we use is not fish sauce like the Southern's.(Southern Banh Xeo is bigger and sweet). The sauce is made from pumkin, liver of pig or chicken(Vietnamese like to eat organs of animals). You can search on Google "Bánh Xèo Đà Nẵng" for information. However, I appreciate you promote Vietnamese cuisine. I think the restaurant may lack of some ingredients, and foreigner don't like to eat organs' animal Central Viet Nam aslso famous with My Quang, Banh Beo, Banh Nam, Banh bot loc... I hope you will discover more Vietnamese cuisine in next videos ^^

Back in Chinatown, there were these Caucasian Texans eating at a restaurant I frequented. The host brings them out a plate of Banh Xeo and says, "This is Vienamese pancake!" As the waitress leaves, the Texan snidely remarks,"Well back in the US, we call this an omelette." Then I asked that fool, "Do omelettes have batter?" Then I slapped him in the face with a thick solid piece of kimchi

Awesome video! It made me hunger for my all-time favorite, pho soup..yes, my belly and tongue absolutely love this Vietnamese delicacy! Best part? It's healthy. As a matter a fact, I think that Vietnamese cuisine is one of the healthiest oriental food out there. This video wasn't just informative, it was super entertaining as well, so much so, that I even think these guys have great potential to create a show or something, bright personalities (in this case, the different personalities just mesh so well together, effortlessly), creativity and the ability to entertain, show big promise in showbiz- believe it or not, think of Jersey Shore! I'm from South Vietnam, living in San Diego, and it seems like Central Vietnamese food have integrated into the South (when I visited), and most Vietnamese people living here are very familiar with the foods from all over Vietnam because of the many Vietnamese places open here. Even though we are from the South, Bun Bo Hue and Banh Xeo are a common entree we eat ALL the time. So I'm not sure it's because of the integrated culture of San Diego or the food is becoming more and more popular in Vietnam also. I just think over all that Vietnamese food is getting the recognition it deserves!

oh, ok. cuz my parents never does the wrapping thing, and they are viet. but everyone is different ;)
@JessicaLkesYou10 жыл бұрын
Lol it really depends on what region your from. My family does it all the time there's even Vietnamese bbq wrapped in lettuce lol similar to the Korean bbq but it's actually totally different

***** My mother is North Vietnamese so therefore, "wrapping" is done in whole Vietnam as I already said in my very first comment ;)
@shyningful10 жыл бұрын
***** It's ok. Btw, I live in Europe and there are mostly North Vietnamese unlike in the U.S. where it is the opposite like you already said and the majority of the Vietnamese there are from South/Central Vietnam.

I love Viet food. My ex's mom made me something that she called Je, though they called a few treats Je. It was water chestnut seeds or something, jack fruit, some gooyish clear thing also used for cakes, and some other fruit in milk. It was sooooo yummy!!!! but no place around me has it :(. I dont think they even sell it at restaurants lol. If your Viet friends know what I'm talking about, you need to try it!
@courtneyvc10 жыл бұрын
It's called "chè". You got the pronounciation correct though! It is very delicious. One of my favorite deserts!

Banh Xeo is from South, not central's
@AidenB01810 жыл бұрын
From central!!!
@TemmyDuong10 жыл бұрын
It's actually from the Central, then later people in the South kinda adopted it and changed it up to create a Southern version of Banh Xeo. If you haven't try an authetic Central Banh Xeo yet, you should because it's mind-blowing.
@OishiiDesun310 жыл бұрын
From Central.. If u come to Danang... You will know see it taste way better than the South..
@sonehyophuong10 жыл бұрын
i didn't know about where the first banh xeo come from! but most central vietnamese that I know, they don't know anything about banh xeo. I lived in the South, so banh xeo is like one of the traditional southern food. Correct me if I'm wrong! but when I came to the Central, I didn't see banh xeo, but Bun Bo Hue, Che Khuc Bach, Com Am Phu, etc.

i learned to eat Banh Xeo a different way. first you take rice paper sheets and dip in water and lay down in a bowl. then make a layer of the lettuce and the herbs (but lots more different herbs than just the cilantro and thai basil). then they made small banh xeo (that they called Vietnamese Pancake) and we put those down and then wrapped the whole thing in the rice paper. i love the contrast between the crispy outside of the crepe and the softness of the lettuce and then the dipping sauce with the garlic and chilis pulls it all together. thanks for showing some Viet dishes that aren't as well known.

Nhu Pham no, it's really Banh Xeo. some people make small ones and then wrap them in lettuce AND rice paper.
@doodahgurlie10 жыл бұрын
isldgrls You're right. It is banh xeo. I didn't eat it that way growing up as we just wrapped our banh xeo in lettuce leaves, but a few years ago, I learned that eating it wrapped in rice paper is much better because it's less messy. With the lettuce leaves, they can break apart easily, but when reinforced with the rice paper, it makes for a more pleasurable eating experience.
